- I was actually looking for a clip of him speaking Afrikaans and then I randomly found this on his charity stream! Also funny how much I could understand because I'm Dutch.

the bilingual urge to start speaking in a random language when someone else does it
I have a bunch of Chinese friends. The urge to start speaking Afrikaans when they speak Chinese is so tempting... the problem is that they know a bit of Afrikaans because we went to school together. Afrikaans is my home language, but it is taught at a basic level in most English schools in South Africa.
Yes you commented this 10 months ago and its super random to get a reply now, but you can thank the YT algorithm for that lmao
@@stewie3k_ unrelated but i love your pfp
@massung_ lmao thanks, its a photo i took down the microscope of some work i was doing. Its a thin section of a rock that is filtered to identify specific minerals. I thought it was really cool. Glad you like it
I want you both to know that you smell
Even as a swede I struggled to understand what Keralis said because of his insane southern accent
I had no idea he was from Skåne xD
@marcusoscarsson4750, neither did I, but that's probably because I'm Canadian.
I don't understand, doesn't all the population of Sweden live in the South? lol
@@mapache-ehcapamwell yeah most of the population lives on the southern half, but the dialects still vary alot from for example Skåne to stockholm (which are both concidered ”south” if you just divide the country into south and north
@@iristhyselius1621 It is interesting how smaller languages(by amount of speakers) vary a lot more over a smaller area than more widely spoken languages.
Keralis could very well have been speaking gibberish and I would have no idea because he said it all so confidently
He was speaking Swedish like Iskall lol
not until you hear tagalog you can say its gibberish
He was speaking a Swedish dialect known as Skånska, which is pretty much just jibberish
@@ShiroCh_ID ngl
I know he’s speaking a language I’m just saying if he wasn’t I would believe it
yall
im an afrikaans speaking person. He actually does speak afrikaans in the middle of all that! It was actually kinda shocking to suddenly hear my home language spoken by soemone i had no idea could speak afrikaans! SOUTH AFRICANS GET REPRESENTED LET’S GOOOOOO
Rendog is South African :)
What did Ren say?
YOOO POG
@@miniciominiciominicio Yes yes yes, that's a really good plan, that's a really good plan. I will go for the (blind one idk I'm Dutch, I can only understand it to a certain extent) and you will go for the uhhh targets okay? Precisely!
@@Melixer_ I understood as much and I'm german haha
The "blind one" refers to the target that blinds the opponents in the game
Fun fact: Dutchman can kinda understand Afrikaans because ofcourse sad history.
dutch gal here, its true. We also say precies.
Sorry about that btw :(
Fellow Dutch gal here, yeah, sorry about that. We really just came there and said "this is ours now"
Yeahhh, my neighbours are South African and moved to the Netherlands. What we did there is f'ed up though. All we can do is learn from our forfathers and learn from their mistakes
waarom ben ik nederlands? xD
True. It's the same the other way around. Afrikaans and Dutch share 95% of their vocabulary.
Also fun fact:
Afrikaans is actually a bunch of languages squished together (mostly Dutch, French, Swedish, German). I’m not even joking, that’s how it was made 💀.
This is true. We wrote a test on it in high school and everything
Don't forget the old native African languages!
Same as English, English is also a bunch of languages mixed together
Português (Brazil) is like that, colonized by Germany, Italy, french, Spain, Portugal (and more), and the sad fate of the africans who were forced to come here because of past portugal
I think it is actually Dutch, German, and French but idk, maybe your right
He says,” Dis n baie goeie plan!” (that’s a really good idea!)
“Ek sal vir die blind gaan.”
(I will go for the blind)
wait do they say blind? i actually can’t hear 😂
“Jy gaan uhh, jy gaan vir die targets, nê?
(You go, uhh, you go for the targets, right?)
“Presies, Presies”
(Exactly, Exactly)
I don't speak Afrikaans but Dutch and I was suprised myself at how much I could understand! It's cool to see it writen out as well, thanks!
@@AFlyingRaven Yeah Afrikaans is a derivative of Dutch
I don't speak any of those languages, but "blind" makes sense in the context of the game - you can blind your opponents with powdered snow.
@@grutarg2938 That's some good English thinking right there. 😂
He couldn't find a word and we don't say that
xisuma’s “wait wait wait wait wait” of confusion lmao
As a Dutch person I could understand it😄, I have South African neighbours and they taught me a few Afrikaans words like plakkies and kielebakkies. Those are the only ones who sticked😅😂
Afrikaans words
@@DapperDilanzo thanks
lol same
Kielebakkies... Haven't heard that in a while, are they grandparents by any chance?
"Ja, ja, ja. Dis 'n baie goeie plan. Dis 'n a baie mooi plan. Ja. Ok, ek sal vir die 'blind' gaan en jy gaan vir die 'targets' né? Presies"
This translate to (If I heard correctly:
"Yes, yes, yes. That's a very good plan. That's a very nice plan. Yes. Ok, I will go for the blind and you will go for the targets right? Precisely."
I’m American but grew up in Amsterdam for a while. A friend of mine is American and grew up in South Africa for a while. We both were only semi-fluent speakers of Dutch/Afrikaans, so when he was trying to tell me about Afrikaans, I accused him of screwing with me cause I was like “bro, that is literally Dutch”.
I didnt know Keralis had such a thick Skåne accent 😂
Hell i didnt even know he could speak english, and i was so shocked when i heard him speak skånska
I was not ready 😵
Isn't his family from south Africa? I thought he went back to see his mom on vacation and she was there.
Yes Ren is from South Africa
His first language is English, but he is from South-Africa so learned a bit of Afrikaans.
Ren also did two charity streams in the past for a South Africa based charity.
yes
yes he is
He was born there
My parents are South African and I’ve rarely ever heard Afrikaans outside of my parent’s and my mom’s family and hearing it makes me really happy
As an Afrikaaner learning swedish, this video is great.
My first language is Afrikaans and Rendog spoke a broken version of it. Afrikaans is probably his 2nd language.
I'm fairly sure English is his first but he grew up in South Africa so he leaned it there
@@AFlyingRaven yes; I'm South African too. He just mixed up the word order a bit. Nowadays, there's not really a reason you would need to learn Afrikaans if it's not your 1st language, but the schooling system was **much** different when he was still in school. It's still a primary academic language, but you definitely don't need it to study or for your career.
Afrikaans just sounds like the dutch king after a little too much beer
As a South African who speak a bit of afrikaans 100% agree with you
The only time my school classes for Afrikaans have come in handy is understanding ren speaking Afrikaans
As a Swede I love the Swedish parts 😂
Im learning Dutch and I always get excited when Ren speaks Afrikaans and I manage to understand a bit of it lol He's one of my favourite Hermits too :D
As someone who speaks Afrikaans it's so nice to hear people outside the country speaking it
What do you mean?
Ren is South African if that's what you mean
Ren is South-African.
Fun fact Afrikaans is considered one of (if not the) most easy language to learn for English speakers.
As a Dutch person I understand every bit of that
Btw ren was saying thats a good plan thats a good plan , your going to go for the 3 targets, 123 lets go my dad is was born in south africa and moved to the uk
Probs not perfect tho lol hard to hear
I am genuinely amazed at how much of that I could understand, being a Dutchie.
God, after seeing humans making a giant tower:
as someone who's etire family is afrikaans, hearing this sent me for a loop
That is so cool honestly. I like hearing other languages. It makes life so much more interesting.
SAME the concept of other languages and how they work is just so cool and interesting to me
@@eepysleepy_, Yessss! To be honest, I take Italian so I technically know two languages (three if you include Angelic) and it’s so much fun to learn it! I love hearing other people speak languages too since it’s just like “this is their version of my first language and it comes so naturally to them- How cool is that?”
Hello, South African here, I do know some Afrikaans and it was super cool hearing it outside of my country! :)
I'm sorry if this is going to be unhappy news for you, but Rendog is also South African.
I guess everyone is dropping fun facts about languages, so here i come: Germans can almost understand everything said in Austria and Switzerland
don't they literally speak german there? just with a VERY heavy accent
@@sirfloofish exactly. But lexical differences can be quite tricky. The word for cream is "Sahne" in Germany, "Rahm", in Switzerland and "Oberst" in Austria. So yeah, can be tricky, usually it isn't though.
Switzerland also speak French Italian and Romansh
@@waltuh2.3bviews3secondsago3 That's true as well. That's the funny part. Swiss people usually can't understand everyone of their very small country. That is how weird and awesome Switzerland really is. It works. Switzerland even has a mixture of direct and indirect democracy.
Watt!?! Ek het nie geweet dat daar 'n Suid Afrikaner in die Hermitcraft series is nie!? En Rendog nog ook!? Amazing.
Ek ook nie! Letterlik malligheid ek sê vir jou!
Ts really funny cause as a Dutch person I can understand almost everything Ren says, but in a very wierd way
crazy seeing random people actually speak the language I was taught in school 😭
Really must be hard for you to go outside
@@TylerMarkRichardson I meant outside of the country
One of my favourite hc clips
Fry fan va skånsk han är
as i norwegian i actually understood most of that (the swedish parts)
im Norwegian, and i can understand a lot of this
Hierdie video is die beste ding wat ek gesien het!
So glad I came across this clip, as I didn’t watch it properly (I was modding and doing dono spreadsheet with others).
I’m going to watch a few times to see if I know enough Swedish to understand what Iskall or Keralis are saying 😂
As a language lover, I was surprise when I found out that Ren spoke Afrikaans. I always wondered if he did, but I found it in the Imp and Skizz podcast episode with Ren.
I talk afrikaans and this is AMAZING!
I think I got “Go to this side first, and then once you’re here we shoot to the other side, and then this side again and back and forth”, and later”perfect”. His southern accent is insane though
it took me a while to realise the other guy was talking in Swedish. I'm Swedish. Dialects are wild
I'm dutch an can understand it lol
i love it !
I understand Keralis without a problem =)
Yes
The way they united on Presis
That "I'm speaking Afrikaans 😏" was SO SMOOTH
Mayhaps
Afrikaans is my second language- I have nothing special or inspirational to say that’s all I had to say lmao 😂
as a fellow dutchie this is very funny :D
VAT HOM FLUFFEY!!!
I didn't know Ren could speak Afrikaans.... I'm so shocked right now. I'm overly excited 😂
ja dit is 'n mooi plan
I love how Iskall and Papa K also joined in. The thing is was Papa K speaking Swedish or Polish?
Keralis speaks Scanian which is the accent spoken in southern Sweden!
Maybe
Afrikaans moment🔥🔥making it out the Germanic languages with this one
I speak Afrikaans too🤙🏻
Dit was baie onverwags😁
ANOTHER SOUTH AFRICAN POG
HOE GAAN DIT MY BRU
Jip, nogal baie onverwags maar lekker om te hoor. Ons het representation ouens (al is dit net 'n paar sekondes😅)
Bro am South African, am proud of this.
Being Dutch this is soooo weird 🤣 no one EVER speaks our language, so it's fun to hear someone from South Africa
My dad speaks Afrikaans, French, English, a little Italian, and one other language i cant remember but said nope my kids don't need to know any of these languages their fine (my mom also speaks French and English)
As a swede I died hearing Keralis scanian accent wtf I was not ready 😵 I also always assumed he had a polish accent or something since he has an accent when he speaks english
Afrikaans is my native language so this is very fun for me
if i ever get down to finally actually making mc content I'd definitely talk in Latvian sometimes 😂
Keralis' lundensiska is crazy
precies!
A lot of people forget that Rendog is African. (UHM ACKSCHUALLY! He was born in Africa. He is African.)
Yeah, Ren is 'n Bees
He speaks Afrikaans so well he sounds like a real South African that’s crazy, he legit sounds like my uncle!
Rendog is a real South African. Dude was born and raised there.
it sounded more like a person from belgium since as a dutch person i could understand lol
As a Dutchman, I love Afrikaans
Ahh. What happened to the boers is tragic.
OMG JUST REALIZED KERALIS SOUNDS LIKE THAT ONE SWEDISH CHEMESTRY TEACHER ON YT
Everybody gangsta until Keralis starts speaking Polish.
Ok
As a dutch person, this is so weird to me
Gekoloniseerd!
Zeker weten gekoloniseerd!
oh noooo he's got a soutie accent
FELLOW SOUTH AFRICAN POG
YEAAHHHHHH! DIT IS BAIE MOOI 😁
Gigi my bru jy kan nie net 'fellow south africans' so casually se nie jy sal vir my flash backs gee na Oom Cyril se speeches😅
Vir die Pantoffels!
ye aim dutch and i understood everything of that
Yesssss.
I am africans
im afrikaans
Ek het hom firstaan
'n boer maak 'n plan
I mean I might be biased because Afrikaans is my 2nd language but you could probably understand from context if you only spoke English
It might be afrikaan, but it realy sounds like dutch, so its probably south afrikaan language
Its Afrikaans, the two languages has a lot of similarity because Afrikaans was partially formed from Dutch. It's also the 3rd biggest of South Africa's 9 official languages in terms of mother tongue speakers
Woah! This was like breaking a forth wall.
I‘m German and understood a little even tho I don‘t speak Afrikaans… HOW
Afrikaans was formed from German, Dutch and a few others
which is also why as a Afrikaans speaker I can understand parts of both, it's also why I started learning German this year
@@EmmaTheSmol Oooooohh! That makes sense. Thanks!
Good luck with learning German, too! :D
@astrophynix179 I'm glad you saw this😁 I almost didn't make it; I didn't think you would see it because of how old your comment is. I'm very glad I did tho.
And thank you for the good luck. I appreciate it. German is a lot harder to learn than expected, to be honest, but I'm having fun with it
@@EmmaTheSmol Yeahhhh keep it up though! Leaning a language is difficult. Also, I had your reply at the top of my RUclips notifications, so just had to check XD.
Ik begrijp hem bijna, het afrikaans is best wel dichtbij het nederlands
Ja het was echt grappig voor mij om te horen idd
why does keralis understand :0
Okay. Who's in the Alice costume?
Keralis!
It is Ker-Alice lol
Being able to understand it because youre dutch is so weird
lakker
HAN E SKÅNSK?????????
Afrikaans sounds a bit Dutch
Afrikaans evolved from Dutch when Dutch settlers stayed in South Africa and started mingling with French colonists i believe
its basicly dutch lol
Surry Mar ek kany biya good Africaans skrife ni maar ek can prubeer vant ek moot offen. Maar ek can did praat
dis 'n goeie poging ten minste :)
oh I thought Afrikaans was an African language lol
It is.
Norwegians are supposed to understand Swedish, but he talked too fast.
I did understand some, but I didn't hear any Afrikaans
