IMO it doesn't = copyright claims. so when i see "did they sample in this song" and "ooo i hear an influence, give credit" --- dude it happens all the time PLUS maybe Robin DID credit Curtis Mayfield. how you know he DIDN'T? were you there at the time? have you looked up the song on Wikipedia or on the CD's liner notes? without influence, music stays stagnant. there are only so many chords, progressions, and notes. and sampling is legal.)
