- Pioneer makes some of the best Head Units on the market, but how about their other gear. Based on the specs the GM-D Series offers an incredible value for the money. This amp is the GM-D8601 model and is CEA Rated, and Pioneer states this amp will do 800W @ 1ohm and comes with a price of just $111! In this video we will find out how much power this amp puts out on the dyno and see if it's a true Budget Gem... or if it's a straight up bust.

Just wanted to say Ive been running this amp daily since june 2018 still running in 2024
Very consistent results and if you consider the ending voltage in most tests was around 14 volts, it's even more impressive. Also, the CEA tests are usually done at 100Hz for sub amps, and the 40Hz test is much more demanding. I like this series of Pioneer amps, I think they are (like you said), not given the credit they deserve.

Totally agree. I've dealt with Pioneer since 1995 and it's so durable. You could build one very nice system with a pair of these amps and 4 of even their lowest in subs.
I'm really anxious to see what the 4-channel does. I would love to see a listening test to see what you all thought about it's sound quality. I know it's subjective but still I respect both of you and your opinions.
I'm use to Pioneer amplifiers having a warm sound and the highs not being raspy. It's like the amp didn't have to try...it was natural.
I wish it was more 6 channel amplifiers out there for a true 3 Way active system.
I've run premier and pr80s and super tuners for years, I had a rockford deck once , some one liked it more than I did.....the subs from the lowly free air Walmart ones to the current champion are solid , I would expect the same from there current line of amps. These are nice clean, transparent , consistent lill power houses. The next setup in the Vic will most likely be powered by pioneer.
Well. You did test the big brother, and it did rated in "almost" all the tests you did (If not factoring in the 4 ohm tests) - as well as more than rated at 1 ohm dynamic
Ryan Blankenship.... hey Ryan love the work your doing.. I was wondering if you can do a dyno test on the hifonics HFI 1500D.. I'm thinking about using it for my next set up. I had the HFI 1000D... it was pretty good. But I'm thinking of upgrading so would like to know how the 1500D is... Thanks in advanced man
is running a 12'' sub in a ported box a problem with this amp since it has no freq cutoff(subsonic filter)
This amp has been my daily driver for many years (at least 5 now) its held up great and with many configurations. highly reccomended
Actually had this amp on an Orion Hcca 15 inch subwoofer. What really shocked me is that this amplifier never heated up! Definitely a plus+ amplifier in my book
Class d baby high efficiency just means less power to heat dissipation
I have this amp, with a lanzar optidrive 15 in my Chrysler 300. And I just gotta say, it beats HARD, over a year still turning heads and flexing windows. Definitely a great amp.
How many watts was it pushing to that one 15?
@@AudioAddict. I can't give you a for sure reading but it's definitely over 1000 rms. I've had this amp hooked up to my one 15 for over 4 years now, still beating hard, never a problem.

The boss ar4000r is the same price and can do I think 1200w at 1 ohm so

ANOTHER BIG NOTE AMONG THE $100-150 500W AMP CLASS: CANT REALLY FIND ANOTHER THAT CAN DO 1OHM! thats what really surprised me, like they seriously didn't have to make it 1ohm stable yet they did and which is why i bought it
Had mine for 5 years, played it max volume for an hour each day for my commute. Finally broke. Went to the local shop and picked a new one up. Great bang for your buck amps.
I have one of these amps running 2 x Rockford Punch P2 D4 12" subs in seperate ported boxes. 800 watts into 1 Ohm. Bloody Awesome!

Back in the late 90's I had a pair of GMH-100 'S. 50x2 165x1 they pounded the crap out of a set of 12" Protec Procast monsters and never broke a sweat, nobody, even myself, believed that they could do it but they did! And with a smile!
I have an old Pioneer GM-X252 . I ran it at 1 ohms for years and it still works .
Pioneer is honestly underrated in the audio world. I've been surprising people for years with my pioneer slim 12 and my tsb pro pioneer tweeters will make your ears bleed. Glad to see they put down on paper what I hear with my ears.
I'm running one to a kicker l7 12 at one time 2 l7 12 s at 2 ohm beat them up! I paid $94 Amazon and Ben beating this amp 5 years now😎
Mine has survived a dead short from one of my 12s when I was running two, it just keeps ticking. I'd stay away from the Pioneer subs though, they sound great but the voice coils don't seem to last at all. I will be moving to dual Kicker CompVR 12s when I get the money for them and a Fox Acoustics box.
I just installed one of these in my Jeep. The power is seamless and almost limitless. I have it paired with Pioneer Champion Series 10's.
I retract my previous statement about Pioneer...this just blew me away for $111...
Had 2 for 8 years. Thought I blew the preamps my last migration. Nope just unplug take apart inspected went wth no shorts put back together both still working and mind you I had an installation mess up with a hot wire that charred the entire case across the bottom. Still works. Do not recommend repeating that though. Good to finally know what they are pushing cause on 2 of these on 4 10s total makes my mid size truck sound like it's going to give up the ghost from the outside.
Thank you Ryan Blankenship and BigDWiz for these amp test you do. It really helps out very much when buying a specific amplifier for a certain setup. I know now this will be the amp I will use to power my single Rockford Fosgate P3 dual 4 ohm twelve. I am not trying to destroy my car with serious spl. I just want something to sound good on the inside when I listen to my music. Nothing like smooth bass.

I've noticed a drastic change in budget amplifiers. I really think these amp dyno videos are forcing them to reconsider overrating their amps.

I don't think pioneer have ever overrated their amps. They do advertise the max power rating which is just snake oil ofc..but that's how the industry is.
Picked up a d8604 for my door speakers and a d8601 for a DD 612 Sub. Can't wait getting this build complete!
I grabbed a 4channel pioneer and that looks similar to run door speakers in my daughter's car for her 1st system.
It's run with the included rca to high level wire and no problems after 2 years.

I don't understand why people hate so much Pioneer or distrust them. I have all Pioneer in my car (less the Speakers). The HU are the best, no arguments in here. The amps are solid a signal/noise is very good (way over some brand name entries that cost more as from Focal or DSL), pretty small. The subwoofers: Man those guys won competition after competition with their cars! I have a 350W RMS sub self amplified (model not important because I noticed Pioneer use other model numbers in Europe and most of you are americans). Man the sub is sooo good. Sure at this power will not break your windows but i didn't bought it for this, I wanted some bass without the mess with another amplifier because I already had one (from Pioneer of course 4x100 RMS). Is what you need. I also owned some of their speakers and I found the TS-A systems very good. Had systems on the front coaxial in the back (round not oval shaped, in Europe we have normal shapes on speakers not from 60 years ago). I bought Alpine just because they changed the model around that time and I wasn't willing to wait for the new ones. I don't mind though, those Alpine Type R kick some ass. Buying from large stores is another great idea, they are so big they don't care. If you go to a shop they will try to fuck you eventually because the business suck and so on. Oh did I tell in my country we have 24 months warranty by law? Man when I heard is just 1 year in USA I was so let down. However never had a single problem with my Pioneer stuff. Oh yeas in fact over 10 years ago I had a DEH P80MP and I had some problems with the disc ejecting mechanismus but those times are long gone.
I just picked up one of these to replace my Taramps Bass 12k while it gets repaired. Decent output. What's funny is the manual tells you to clip the amp, and shows a clipped sine wave lol but it doesn't want you to clip it too much. It's not even a soft clip, it's a hard clip. If anyone wants a picture I'll post it.
Pioneer Super Tuner HUs are some the best ever made. Pioneer is a solid product across the board. Never had anything that was crap from them.

I completely agree. It looks like a great cheap little amp. I just can’t stand the max ratings advertising. Advertise it for what it is. It’s an 800w amp.

I wouldn't have ever even considered pioneer amps . bit my sister got one a few years ago. and it actually did kinda good . great video.
Very good amp. I've used the 8604, the 8601 and the 9601 and they all perform well can't go wrong for the price. I currently have the 9601 running at 2 ohms on a single RE sex and it does it flawlessly. And the 8604 running 4 8ohm 6" midrange speakers in bridged mode and no issues whatsoever
Ryan Blankenship check out BigDWiz review on the 9601 it's really good too. I currently have my 8604 in bridged mode running 4 8ohm 6" mids. 2 6" 8ohm midrange speakers dropped to 4ohms and run on channel 1&2 bridged. And the other 2 speakers dropped to 4ohms and ran on channel 3&4 bridged
A friend in high school had a pair of Pioneer subs in his Volkswagen and they were amazing!
I picked up a GM-A5702 to drive a pair of Skar IX-10's on split channels. It works really well for those two subs.
I think this will be perfect for my wife's GMC terrain !! Sense it has a factory pioneer auido system in it just needs to upgrade the sub and amp !!!

This amp pushed my rockford TRF 2000 RMS really good that bass knob made it flex
Bought one for $50 bucks in pawn shop. I gotta admit this amplifier is a little monster!!! Pushing 2 skar zvx 8 inch subs like a champion. Although I need 1000 more watts for them... it's breaking my trunk.

I use pioneer head unit in my car as well. Never used their amps. Right now I have mb quart onyx 1000.1d and soundstream txp6000.1d
There are so many of these budget amps that are all making excellent power especially for the money that it is almost to hard to choose one or the other. Great video by the way🖒🖒🖒
I run a pair of the 9601s on my subs and they are solid amps. I wish they made bigger ones like 3 and 4k.

Great vid thanks for showing the efficiency percentages. I've found out the hard way with powering amps with the correct amount of voltage. They have fried more than a couple times. 👍

Last I heard Pioneer owns TAD speakers as well. One of the best if not the best speakers bar none.
I love and use a Alpine CDA-137BTi H.U,would not want any other any more(had vdo,Kenwood,several Pioneer's and jvc(higher end). The Alpine sounds amazing.
Great video, I run one of these in my truck, it has pushed two 12s at 1 ohm no problem. I'm actually running one 12 at the moment cause the second one overheated and dead shorted both voice coils. This amp is still going after a direct short to the outputs and sounds great. By the way, I believe the 9601 isn't technically a bigger brother, more of a younger brother, just the newer 9000 series of amp. The 8701 would be the larger unit to this one, which if I remember right offers 800 watts at 2ohm instead of 500. Great testing!
Im like 100%sure that POWERBASS makes Pioneer slim subs +box's & they make the entry-level NON paper cone coaxl's for Pioneer, ROCKFORD FOSGATE, & many more like 14 different brands i believe!
But i love both brands!

Josh Kyte Big D Wiz dynoed the 9601 at just a hair over 1700 at 1 ohm dynamic. I've been torturing one for 3 years now. Very good budget amp.
Pioneer makes some of the best equipment on the market. Only the smaller companies that are far more expensive make anything better. Pioneer's biggest downfall was dealing with Wal-Mart. Its a real shame people assume that Pioneer is junk because they deal with Wal-Mart. Pioneer IMO is the best of all the major car audio companies !!!

My local Walmart doesn't stock this amp. They have only one Pioneer. The Gm-A5702. Amazon doesn't list it either, but does have a GM-D8701 listed for $113.96
Wonder if the 8701 succeeded the 8601, and is the same amp.
Before I let the video play I am going guess-
1- makes rated power almost bang on.
Or
2- Makes slightly less than rated but kills it in peak RMS.
Pioneer is like the blue collar worker of the amplifier world, not fancy, but honest and hard working, worthy of respect.
Now let's see if I'm gonna need to eat some crow.
I use all old school car audio. American made Zed built amps and Sony Mobile ES radio and Sony Mobile ES DSP/EQ.

Had my eye on the 8604 for a while now just waiting for someone to test it. Judging by how the other gm series have done it will more than likely do rated.
I've had a few of those amps. Paid less than 60 a piece and they made a good amount to flip for a few extra bucks lol

Why do you need subsonic for a ported box. I just order this amp for my kicker comps and ported box. Is this amp bad for ported box

With all those caps I expected it to hit at least 1200 dynamic at 1 ohm that's a lot of caps in there and they used big output transistors I'm this and the bigger brother the 9601 is a nice amp built much beefier.
I have 2 of these amps running 6 10in pioneer subs.

What about the 15" TS-W8102SPL 8000 watt sub Pioneer made was a nice monster it had a 3" 6 layer ceramic-coated coil 3000rms 8000max
My opinion 3" was too small for a sub like that should have been a 4" coil
