Super fantastic tutorial. I am wondering if you can help me create a shadow, which gives the illusion of the character floating. I saw a post, which was made in photoshop, the effect was very close to realism, showing the character floating above the paper, using drop shadow. Can you please help me to create similar effect
You call this a workflow ...is it possible to save the steps as a replayable macro in GIMP which can be applied to any text box? (absolutely no idea if this concept exists!)
I completely get it , I'm assuming if there is more letters just add more layers and long shadow drops right ? What gets me is the layer masking part though any tips or suggestions?
I have a question does anybody know how to use on every single brush a diffrent hardness and pressure, because when I switch my brush they have the same.
You may want to try: Edit/Preferences/ -> New window /Tool Options/ -> uncheck on the ride side "Paint Options Shared Between Tools" (you have 4 or 5 tools brush included), you might also want, while you're on this window reset your tools to default (it's the big button just above the "Paint Options Shared...")
My name is kevin amaze and I am using my mom's youtube account so that channel name is ladies special online shopping. I am learning photo editing since 6 months and you are my teacher. So sir, please upload your next video on muscles editing by warp transformation. I uploaded a comment in morning too(i mean indian morning) about this but then I deleted it because there was a typing mistake in that.
There is no criticizing your knowledge or professionalism. Maybe if you tweaked your intonation just a little to where you are not always ending sentences with sloping up. Almost like a newscaster does. Feel free to end sentences like you’re conversing with us. I hope you understand what I mean. All the best to you!
Thanks. Your tutorials are very professional - well planned with a distinct purpose. I'm learning a lot.
Thanks!
I thought I was going to go crazy with all the long shadows and masks, but they all really paid off. 😁
Thank you Sir, I'm from India and I'm beginner. I hope this tutorial will help me.
Thanks Mike! Your tutorials are indispensable 😁
Q: Wouldn't it be easier to simply put each letter on its own layer?
Nice tutorial Mike. I will apply this to my thumbnails!
thanks mike
Nice vid, I like that you explain everything you do so I can learn to do this by my self even if its hard.
One day I'd like to see a GIMP text tutorial that doesn't use GIMP as the example text but sadly I don't think I'll live that long

Bonjour Davis,
absolument génial, merci pour cette méthode et comme tu l'écris: ingénieuse.
Applying soft light to the "visible" layer doesnt look like it does anything except remove the image. Second opinion?
Edit: I think I figured out why.
Going in for my second attempts gotta get used to this repetition

so smart
Thanks cosmo!
Hie Davies, please send the link to download brushes
I did not use any brushes for this tutorial. Everything for this tutorial is built directly into GIMP apart from the font I used.
