  • Here is a detailed install of the OEM Toyota Subwoofer on 2022 and up Subaru BRZ's and Toyota GR86's. This specific kit is for the Limited BRZ or Premium GR86. This subwoofer is paired with the OEM Plus Audio brand speakers. I am not affiliated with either of these brands at the time of posting this video. Hope you enjoyed watching!

    Just installed this kit in my 2022 GR86 base. Holy shit what a difference. A little bit of EQ later and it sounded very balanced to me. I know you said you'd recommend the OEM+ door speaker upgrade first, but I would disagree if you have the base model. $650 for the parts seems like an expensive system, but it is absolutely perfect and easy to install. Probably took me 3 hours and I took my time. Someone who knew what they were doing would probably be able to bang this out in a couple hours no problem. Hands down worth the money. I used your video and the instructions you have in your description and I cannot thank you enough.
    Also, you do not need to drill the rear hole out for the rear sub bracket. No idea why they required it other than the clip not "locking" in place. I almost slapped a rivet nut in it and called it a day. Could probably throw a rivet nut in the forward bracket too. I bought the same tool from HF and it came with a ton of rivet nuts.
    I weighed this vs the OEM+ kit with 8" sub and I can't justify that price for such a small "sub". I emailed them and they assured that I would be surprised at how well it would do, and I resisted responding with, I'm sure I will be surprised at the lack of performance for that price. I will give OEM+ credit on the size of the box and how little space it takes up, but an 8" sub is a waste of time in my opinion. 10" subs are my absolute favorite, but I listen to a lot of metal and I really like the punch of them.
    If you do this, take a good look at the huge open space behind the quarter panel. You could EASILY fit larger speakers in there. Two 6x9's is what I will be doing if I ever get around to building a bracket for it and upgrading my system.
    Everything in this install is easy. Take your time and do not skip the step of putting tape on your HVAC controls, steering wheel, cruise lever, and wiper control. If you hate your shift knob, skip the towel. You will thank the instructions and John Hubz.

    Thanks for this video, I installed mine in about 2- 2.5 hours by myself. fortunately it was really simple watching your video beforehand. It is similar to my scion tc, so pulling it apart was effortless to me. felt exact same. thanks for your video! appreciate it. and oh my goodness, my premium + subwoofer=sounds excellent once I adjusted the settings properly. very happy with this sound quality and the exhaust noise turned off. complete enjoyment.

    Great tutorial! I'm looking forward to following it. Only one confusing part- if you can help me understand because I don't have the kit in front of me. What is the wire for at 16:36 that you plug into the blue connector? You didn't show the other end of that (the side that goes through the grommet facing the battery) or explain what it connects to or where it comes from.

    thanks. considering the car is assembled by Subaru in a Subaru plant, it's no surprise all parts say Subaru. just be glad the twins exist for a 2nd gen. I'd love to see a 3rd gen personally. curious if this could work w/my 19 wrx (base) 🤔? so, how fast can you go w/Top Speed oil? never heard of it. probably the best thing to do to cars (Subarus/Toyotas/Hondas) is sound deaden and block the gaping access holes in the doors.

    I followed your exact instructions but then the sub wouldnt turn on? The ONLY thing i did differently was the red cable to the battery- instead of connecting it to the top screw like in ur vid (because the circular hole for the red cable was too small that it doesnt fit in - i connected it to the screw that clamps the positive terminal to the battery…but even then shouldnt that power up the amp?

    • @JohnHubz
      @JohnHubz  Год назад +1

      As long as it is touching the positive battery terminal at some point, it should have power. You can test it with a cheap test light from harbor freight.
      Did you make sure the fuse is in line for the cable? If so, is the fuse blown?
      Are all the connections good on the back of the subwoofer? Are the connections on the radio good? Is the connection near the passenger footwell good?
      I would check all of those things. Also, is it grounded?

    Just bought a 2024 gr86 and bought the sub as part of the purchase. Dropped it off at the dealer to get installed and they called saying they need to bring in specialists because they’ve never installed one before LOL.
    New car = scared of damage but I’m glad they aren’t just winging it. This video helps me understand that they are doing; thank you!

    • @paulhill4746
      @paulhill4746 Месяц назад

      @@sxtsxt6714separately. I got the premium trim but the subwoofer wasn’t installed. I noticed it in the part options during my research phase though and I like my sound.
      During purchase I asked if I could get it purchased/installed and they had to look it up because they had never got it requested. It was apart of the oem part list though and they allowed me to add it into my finance.

    • @JohnHubz
      @JohnHubz  Год назад +1

      So I don’t have a resonator delete, but he does. Deleting the resonator makes the exhaust louder and more raspy. There really isn’t a performance gain per say. It’s better to invest in a full Catback exhaust like I have (from AWE)

      at 1:46 look at the part number and either call your local dealer or google search it. There are a few dealers in the south and west coast that sell them online. Your local dealer will most likely be more expensive. MSRP should be around $650 but local dealers quoted me $800ish
