@ItzGoldfish1 The music playing during the Achilles vs Hector fight scene, is this the rejected film score by Gabriel Yared that was ultimately shelved in favor of James Horner's score?
not elegance, just the strength and focus of a professional hired killer vs the weakened trojan prince, who lived in fear of everything they had to lose.
I'd say Hector strikes with strenght and brutality. He could be elegant because he is way stronger and resilient, but he doesn't care. He just want blood and revenge...
What you’re describing isn’t a fight scene. It’s actually a line during a fight scene. So it would be part of the script which there are records of & should be referenced as “one of the greatest lines*” in a movie. Not “one of the greatest scenes.”
@@ItzGoldfish1 My man, Achilles was worthy to win this fight. The duel was fair, Hector was a cunning warrior and Achilles was the greatest fighter of all time
He does indeed say Hector was the best he had faced, to Priam, (Hector's father) when he returns Hector's body to him for proper funeral rites. Also, considering that Hector actually managed to land a blow on Achilles, when he slashes the tip of his sword against Achilles' cuirass, he does quite well. Granted, it doesn't wound Achilles at all because Achilles' economy of movement is so incredibly brilliant that he is able to step back just far enough that it only scratches his armor rather than slicing through into his chest. Also, how many times does Hector manage to avoid/deflect Achilles' favored killing move? (the jumping downward thrust with sword or spear that he uses on the big guy, with sword, in the opening fight) 2? 3? So yes Hector holds his own just fine when you consider who he's fighting.
“There are no pacts between lions and men” a subtle nod to his divinity is what makes this so good. Hector being the pinnacle of man, and Achilles the mortal embodiment of war. Hector fights valiantly and honorably, however war inevitably claims all who fight them.
Hector's the tragic hero of this story. If his father had listened to his son's advice instead of relying on the gods for everything, it might not have come to this.
In this story, priam isn't the only one getting help from the gods, there are several points in The Iliad where it mentions that Hector would have died in battle if the gods hadn't turned the blow away, if you think about it almost every character in this story is tragic because they're all being used as pawns by the gods, this entire war happened because Aphrodite gave away Helens hand in marriage, even though she was already betrothed to someone else, Apollo then caused the war to continue when he brought a plague down upon the acheans because one of his favorite priests was insulted, Zeus almost lets the Acheans die because Achilles goes and weeps to his mother about hiss prize being stolen and she makes Zeus make a promise that the acheans will suffer for what they've done, and so on and so forth.
@@dragansnyder2786 Every characters got punished by the Gods in a way, the only one who didn't get punished or died is Odysseus because he is the only one who does not defy the Gods in the Iliad, and in the movie he mentions it himself that they each have a gift from the gods and they must live with it
I always loved the part where Hector's sword slices into Achilles' breastplate, and he looks down like, "Damn. No man has ever gotten that close to ending me before".
@@inchyokk yeah but that's not why it's significant. Achilles is said to be the greatest warrior OAT, no man can match him and no man can even come close to harming him. While Achilles was immortal (except his heel), he still trained harder than anyone else, he didn't use his immortality as a crutch and would best every man before him. Hector was the only man so far to ever throw Achilles off balance and strike him. Hector is the only man to have ever make Achilles make a mistake. That's definitely something, especially when you consider that Hector is a man and Achilles is a demi god.
@@inchyokkexcept that was an addition from way after Homer wrote the Illiad. Originally, Achilles was simply THAT good a fighter that he seemed invincible. The whole thing about the heel being his weak spot only came later. The movie gives a nod to that, in that Achilles didn't die after getting his heel shot by Paris, but since he couldn't run or dodge BECAUSE of that wound, it let Paris strike further arrows dead center mass... which would kill anybody if we're honest, no matter how good they are.
@@inchyokkdude by the lore Achilles couldnt defeat Hector easily tho. If i remember correctly Athena puts a rock behind Hector's foot and when Hector falls Achilles strikes him down. Which is dishonorable move. The quote in this movie "i wont let a stone take my glory" reference to that. Achilles in illiad is not a admired man. He disguises himself as woman to not to go to Troy. He is still the greatest warrior of all time though.
Yap, it's great. I like however how "simple" they made the fight between Jen and Shu Lien in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (considering all the effects in the rest of the movie). The spear skills of Shu Lien are also great
Yup. Achilles really wanted to win with the spear to prove he was better, knowing hectors choice of weapon was the spear. If not for the gods hector would still be alive. In the book it was a roll of the dye that determined the outcome because both were favored by the gods
"There are no deals between Lions and Men..." Showed parts of this movie to my daughter a few years ago. About a MONTH later, we were at the park and it started to rain. We all went under a tree to sit it out. After a few minutes, my daughter walked out into the empty field of the park, raised her arms and started shouting "HECTORRRRR!". I nearly died. My ex went mental "WHAT ARE YOU LETTING HER WATCH, DAVE????". She's only 9 at the time 🤣

@ You completely missed the point here. Check difference between this one and “300” for example, where all this shit with the effects actually started. “300” was filmed on a 10m2 sand pit! All subsequent movies went even worse after that. I am affraid to watch Gladiator 2, because I can already see what is coming.
Also apperently while filming This Brad Pitt and Eric Bana had a bet that who misses own bucks to the other everytime and the results were Hector just owning Achilles in real life even so the movie shows contrary LOL
Everyone in the audience was praying for Hector to win and the way he gradually loses to Archilles is epic. The director took his time to prepare the audience for his death. It was slow yet painful.
I had not red the Iliad before I watched this. So I didn’t know the outcome. I thought hector was going to somehow win and was sad that I thought Achilles was going to lose. Because how so many movies set up fights. The underdog losing and makes a comeback type of thing. Of course I was not part of the audience you were with. But a different perspective.
i watch this scene from time to time, and everytime i watch i have a hope that Hector will win. I think this day is close, AI will make this possible soon :)
@@PhyrexJ Hector is depicted as a simple man who only wanted to protect his family, Achilles as some kind of arrogant asshole who only seeks personal glory at this point. I was deeply hoping Hector would win and I wouldn't be surprised if we were a large majority in that case.
They did a great job with getting Achilles nearly supernatural skill across, without making it look fake, or like he’s super human. It’s just the pinnacle of what a human warrior is capable of. The economy of motion almost makes it look like kata or something.
Yes, considering Achilles was a demigod. You gotta give Hector his props for a good fight he managed to strike and begin to wear down Achilles, considering Hector was 100% mortal.
The whole movie is full of great lines, great action, great everything. Somehow a terribly underrated movie that’s gotten lost in the shuffle of time. Deserves way more credit than it gets.
Honestly my favorite part of this part of the movie is Hector saying his goodbyes and in the background you hear Achilles screaming "HECTORRR" over and over again. Calling him to his reckoning. Best part of the whole film
He could've done anything but stab the kid with the sword after he slit his throat. He would've at least got Achilles's respect if he delivered the body to him in person. But the book Hector is worse. After Helios informs Hector that Patroclus is masquerading as Achilles, he guides Hector's hand to stab Patroclus, then strips his armor off and wears it, before being confronted by Achilles without armor. After Achilles kills Hector, he removes his armor off Hector's body and drags him away. All in all he didn't deserve what he got after dying, but he certainly deserved to be killed for his actions.
@@talkshow69 He stabbed the kid so he wouldnt suffer. you can take several minutes to die from having your throat slit its not a "instant kill" like they show in TV/Movies, what Hector did was a Mercy.

@@KuryouTheRunt according to the work of the Iliad and the Little Iliad, the great hero was Diomedes. He was the favorite hero of the goddess Athena. He killed many important Trojans and wounded the gods Aphrodite, Apollo, Mars. seriously injured the hero Aeneas who was saved with the help of the goddess Aphrodite. He also tried to kill Hector three times, but was saved by the intervention of the god Zeus. When Achilles killed a relative in his anger, Diomedes was not afraid to duel him for revenge. After the old Nestor, he was considered the wisest of the Greeks. Hector was a second-rate hero. Twice he was in danger of being killed by Ajax and was saved by divine intervention. Patroclus was superior to Hector. He would have conquered Troy if the god Apollo had not prevented him. The god Apollo was the one who killed Patroclus and Eumorphos delivers the second fatal blow Hector merely gave him the finishing blow in an arrogant manner and wanted to throw Patroclus' dead body to the dogs. But Hector was the man who loved his family but not his country because he could have given Helen back later and the war would have ended Among the heroes, we place Achilles, Diomedes, Ajax in the first class of bravery. To this day, I love how they made Achilles' fighting style, making it seem like it was just pure skill from a peak warrior - someone who know exactly how to make use of their weapons and armor as extensions of themselves. Pitt made it look so fluid and realistic, that it feels like really going back in time to a legend
Most people who comment on here need to actually read the original ancient story of Achilles, it is not 'Hollywood' he actually wasn't a man of honor and it was his armour that was considered his strength, Ajax actually fought for his amour after his death considering it to be what was great about him. It is a great fight scene but that is all it is, not anything to do with Historical facts, don't get carried away!
@@Rick356A I am not sure what you have been reading In Greek mythology, Achilles was the son of Zeus' grandson Peleus and the Nereid Thetis Achilles was naturally very strong, swift, and agile he was also trained by the immortal centaur Chiron who was Zeus' half brother Thetis dipped Achilles in the river Styx but one of his heels was vulnerable. She had held him by that heel when she dipped him. One of his feats of strength was strangling Cycnus to death. Cycnus was a son of Poseidon.
Hector represents the apex of human performance in both intelligence and skill, whereas Achilles represents demi-divinity... the most well trained man is just always a step behind a god
hector represents the weakness inherent in the eastern branch of the same family for which achilles is the western example, a professional killer with no ties to anyone except his employer
The last sequence where Achilles grabbed the broken spear from Hector and then spins around acting like he's gonna attack and then directly, accurately throws the broken spear to Hector's chest is just freakin awesome and clean.
And shows how the endurance achilles built was important as hector was just a little too slow due to fatigue and just a little too full of lactic acid to hold onto the spear.
Look at the mental state of the two. Hector was demoralised because he killed a kid thinking he was Achilles, on the other hand Achilles was highly motivated by his desire for revenge. Well this different mental state played out in the fight as well. According to the story, Hector was a more noble fighter than Achilles.
How dare you?!? Micheal Bay employs something like 1,000 cameramen with Parkinson's Disease. What else are they supposed to do? Work at Dairy Queen making milkshakes?!?
Thought I might add my take on this. If you notice before the fight, hector’s skills were proficient hence why he was hailed as the best warrior in the Trojan army. With the exception of Ajax, he had no difficulty eliminating countless Greek soldiers with ease. Including patrocles, Achilles cousin. When Achilles and his men invaded the temple of Apollo, hector single handedly killed many Greek soldiers before confronting Achilles in the adyton. It’s not until he fights Achilles that you see he’s clearly outmatched and nowhere near the skill level or athleticism of Achilles. What’s ironic is that his fighting skills spawned from years of battle experience, saved him from being killed earlier on as Achilles was actually prolonging his defeat. He knew he had hector beat, he just had to see how his cousin was slain (slice to the throat) and then exploit hector’s main weakness which is his stamina. Notice how hector grew tired and Achilles just picked him off for the taking, delivering the final blow when he knew hector had nothing left in the tank. The psychology in this fight is great.
@Goldfish classic example of knowing you're outmatched and saying "fuck it" anyways and doing what you can. Pretty sure Hector knew he was dead in this scene and that's why he asks for a pact. Really miss original music but Im guessing copyrights annoying asf.
Hector knew this would be his end but still chose to fight and protect his country. Being brave isn't having no fear Hector still fought even though he had fear. It's clear in the movie why he advocates to take Helen back, argues that they can't win this war, and shows his wife the escape tunnel he knew all along. Definitely my favorite character, thankful for all the fellow fans.
I mean the choreography is actually insane. It’s remarkable neither got seriously hurt doing this together. They are inches away from actually hitting one another with blunt weapons. One misfire or slip of mind could’ve resulted in serious injury. Absolutely impressive.
Better yet, the two actors agreed to pay $50 for each accidental light blow, and $100 for each accidental hard blow. Brad Pitt owed $750 by the end of filming, and Eric Bana owed him nothing
Actually...they made a gentleman's agreement: $50 for every soft accidental hit and $100 for every hard hit. Brad Pitt ended up paying Eric Bana $750. I don't know what the breakdown was but there was definitely blows between the two during filming.
To be honest for Achilles it's wasn't that great of a fight... It was easy, well what can we say about the man who was the greatest warrior of that generation and probably one of mightiest warrior ever in human recorded history
It is remarkable the confidence of Achilles' moves as he is fighting. He knows that he is unbeatable and brings the terror in his enemy. Hector was a great fighter but he couldn't have a change against the greatest warrior this planet have ever seen. Brad Pitt in his best in this great movie. I can't imagine anyone could be better in this role.
I agree. Maybe Leo Dicaprio is the only dude who also have the skills to portray Achilles' arrogance and confidence, but he doesn't have Brad's physical conditioning. One of the best casting ever.
@@fernandomaron87 Yeah, Leo definitely has that almost mythical level of self-belief. To portray someone like Achilles, one needs to be that way, for sure.
Yes. He knew no one came back from a fight with Achilles. However Achilles fought like he had nothing to lose because partially he too knew he would die. The prophecy said about him that if he entered the battle he would die young but with glory. Both adversaries knew they would die
@@katerinaaqu Achilles own mother knew if he had went to war that he would not come back, she knew he would meet his death..purely a mother's intuition
@ingodwetrust7648 it was not intuition. It was a prophecy. When Achilles was born he was given two futures. One he doesn't fight and returns home to die of old old age but without glory and the second was that he fights, he dies at war and he gets plenty of glory.
He knew he couldn't defeat Achilles, he knew Achilles was going to kill him, and he also knew that Achilles was angry because of who Patroclus was to him. (Depending on which version of the Trojan War you're reading/watching, Patroclus was his best friend/lover/cousin, regardless someone Achilles cared about deeply) And while Hector was such an honorable man that he knew he'd allow Achilles a proper funeral IF he defeated him, he was afraid that Achilles' anger would cause him to act dishonorably, and he didn't want his family to have to see the desecration of his body.
I saw this movie 100 times "it's my favorite" and I saw this scene 1000, it's really one of the best scenes in the history of the cinema ...... the story , the music , the acting , the production, everything was more than great
Achilles is hailed as the greatest Greek warrior of all time. Hector lasted nearly 2.5 minutes toe to toe with him and managed to slice is armor. For a mere man…that ain’t too shabby.
Then you missed the point of the fight. There is only one scene in the whole film in which Achilles looks tired. It's when he fights Hector. They make a point to show Achilles out of breath and actually having to think. Oh and he calls Hector the best man he's ever fought. I rewatched this literally yesterday lol@@sebilsever8961
Hector was a great warrior. Achilles was on another level. Hector knew what the score was and so did everyone else but he faced it like a man. Achilles was toying with him.
Yess there is very good flow in the combat here. The way that they start with the more basic weapons and progress to the more lethal stuff is very well done
@@0Valentym0 as far a choreography goes yes, awesome. But there are no stakes like in this one, nor is it a character moment like Neo finally believing he is the one. Just a great looking fight scene and nothing more.

Hector: I give the boy the honor he deserves. Achilles: you just give the honor of your sword! Tonight you wonder the underworld no eyes, tongue or ears? & all the dead shall know. This is hector the fool who think he can kill achilles, How brad pit deliver his line was incredible.😊
This was a movie only scene(except the words of achilles). Hector took achilles' armor off the body of Patroclus and planned to feed his body to the hounds in the books. He ran away from achilles when prompted to fight, circling the walls of Troy three times until forced to fight by the gods.
This stands up as one of the greatest on screen duels of all time. Maybe the best ever. The strokes of their spears and swords are so believable, it doesn’t look like they’re holding back or like they’re waiting for the other person to dodge. These actors did an incredible job, the choreography is on point. This scene demanded top tier athleticism and commitment and it all came together. Bravo!
Something I couldn't help but notice is that the difference in styles is what determines this fight. Hector is more of a traditional warrior, which means he is obviously more used to charging into battle with an army behind him. So his fighting style relies on brute force and strength with no much room to maneuver. Part of the reason he had difficulty against Ajax was that he was facing someone who was stronger in a smaller arena (them being boxed in by the battle around them) and was only saved by stumbling on weapons. Whereas against Patroclus, Hector had the advantage because it was a much smaller arena, and Patroclus was trained to try and be more mobile in his fighting technique like Achilles. He was boxed in going against someone who fought with pure strength and brute force. Here, however... Hector is at a serious disadvantage the second the duel starts. Because Achilles is not a powerhouse, he's a fluid fighter who moves between opponents quickly. And he has as much room to maneuver as he wants in this fight. Hector does put up an incredible fight here, even repeatedly blocking Achilles' signature move multiple times(the one where he jumps and tries to bring his sword down into your neck. He uses it frequently in the film). Also, Hector forgets his own advice from earlier: "Make him swing and miss, and he'll tire." By the end of the fight, he was breathing heavily. And in a last-ditch effort to win, he tried to dual wield despite the fact that he was clearly not proficient in that the fighting style (you can see this in his still wide sweeping motions with his exhaustion really kicking in at this point). In summary, Achilles won the second Hector stepped through the gate. He just had to wait for his moments to strike after letting Hector tire himself out.
Well said and I couldn't have explained it better myself. I have always noticed the number of times that Hector avoids Achilles' favorite move multiple times, which is very impressive.
I think you're wrong about Achilles not being a powerhouse. You see multiple times in this fight (2:22 is my favourite example). But you also see him blocking Hector's wide swings with little effort rather than parrying them if you slow things down, not to mention stumbling Hector with the signature strike and shoving him backwards with one hand after Hector lumbers toward him exhausted. Another few examples that spring to mind is Achilles spear throw which has Hector SHOOK with how accurate it was from distance implying the strength needed to hurl a bronze spear with that force is "Impossible" at least for a man Achilles size. But also he straight up decapitates a statue with one swing in the same scene. Achilles is a demi-god so his physical capabilities are not on the same scale as the mortals in the film so he outmatched Hector in pretty much every capacity, martial ability, strength, agility, cardio, anything physical in general he had over on Hector. And despite all of this, Hector still put up a damn good fight and that is why it's so impressive from him.
@Andrew you make some fair points, but something to remember is that in this film Achilles is not a Demi-god. He's just a guy who is REALLY good at killing people. The film purposefully makes it seem that to the people of Greece and Troy characters like Achilles must be part god to be able to have the skills he does (the little boy who Achilles speaks with in the beginning of the film mentions some of the myths and stories that are being told about him). As for the fight, it is definitely fair to say that Achilles had Hector on the defensive for a majority of the fight, and that is what caused Hector to make his biggest mistake of switching up his style repeatedly. At first he purposefully goes defensive to see what Achilles is going to do, but as Achilles keeps pushing him back, that is what causes Hector to try and close the gap in order to prevent Achilles from being able to maneuver around him like he had been up till that point, but in doing so Hector was vastly exhausting himself, even if he had kept his shield I doubt he would have been able to hold it up with how his stamina was at the time. Also, while we don't know exactly how much the armor and shield of both Hector and Achilles weigh, we can probably guess that Hector's (at least his shield anyway) weighs a lot more than Achilles, which probably didn't help in terms of his movement and stamina
Put it as you want but Achilles is simply better than him, in every aspect. In a 1 vs 1 fairly, he had 0 chances of winning, not matter the strategy you wanna use.
This movie isn’t surrounded by mythology. And looks at the realistic side of Troy. That’s why i love it so much. Achilles wasn’t a god. He was just very well trained soldier.
@samiurrahman2450 the story is based upon the Illiad where Achillies was practically immortal. That's why in the movie they had to show him as the best warrior. There is also a scene in the beginning of the movie where they literally show his goddess mother
@ItzGoldfish1 exactly how I looked at it, and why I enjoy this movies interpretation so much. He's seemingly just such a well trained warrior that people take his skill for a divine cause, like they'd call misunderstood sciences magic. at least that's how I saw it in the movie.
Hector was a best trained warrior but Achilles was a born warrior, the art of war is in his blood , in his DNA.This is what we understand in this fight sequence.
Then you realise you should be Hector. Achilles is dominated by his ego and emotions and doomed since the beginning. Hector is the most decent, brave and humble man of the Iliad and the real "human model" to follow for Greeks, where Achille is a demi-god far from mortals.
I watched this scene so many times but i dont know why every time when i saw this fight i always pray inside my heart please hector you can win this but Hector always loses this fight.
When i was a kid i wanted achilles to desttoy hector so badly. Now that i am much older I’ve grown to love snd respect hector’s character a lot and even cheer him on in this scene despite what happens jajaja
The buildup to this fight is excellent! So much of the film is spent making you like both these guys. Hector is the good man. He fights for his country, his girl, and his child. Yet, he doesn't want more fighting. But you also like Achilles because he has no allegiance to anyone or anything but himself and his own aspirations. A lone wolf, who never experiences a moment of weakness in the entirety of the film up until the very end. The rough part is knowing that only one of these two is gonna walk away, and you know it's not gonna be Hector. Especially after that scene where he's telling his wife what to do should he die. The sequence does such a good job of showing Hector giving it his all to his dying breath, but managing to never make the fight an equal exchange. Make no mistake about it, Achilles is absolutely in control from start to finish!
This scene is actually better without the music. The silence of just them fighting, swords slashing and can hear their breath makes it a lot more thrilling.
You won't have eyes tonight you won't have ears or a tongue you will wonder the under world blind deaf and dumb and all the dead will know this is Hector the fool, who thought he killed Achilles gives me chills every time! how the hell people don't like mythology is beyond me!
I am always impressed by the choreographed fight scenes in this movie. I have no idea how good or real the battle might be but damn it's exciting to watch.
Hector really was the best warrior Achilles ever fought. Hector tagged Achilles once and sliced his armor, you can see at one point Achilles is actually breathing heavy, and towards the end Hector was actually fighting at Achilles making him back up until Achilles pushed Hector back. The only other time it shows Achilles out of breath is after he kills the last guy at the temple of Apollo when he and his team take the beach.
In the end, what happened like in the history and all... as it is just a story, I must say, the whole scene is just amazing and all the actors here makes me feel like, I'm sad from both sides. Not many movies or fight scenes compares. Cheers...
“You won’t have eyes tonight, you won’t have ears or a tongue. You will wander the underworld blind, deaf and dumb and all the dead will know. This is hector. The fool who thought he had killed Achilles.” Whew. Cold ass line.
The way Achilles fights is my favorite of all martial arts. It's athletic but not solely reliant on strength and speed. He seemed principled, like theory-in-effect, like a teacher's favorite student. You see how he placed his spear on the shield, or placed the shield behind his head, etc? There isn't a martial art like this taught in real life, unlike karate/aikido/taekwondo, and unlike mma/muaythai/kickboxing/boxing/wresting/judo, but they made it seem like that was the traditional martial art in Ancient Greece. I'm not sure how to explain it.
Achilles didn't have a style. He literally just freestyles his way through fights because of his amazing ability. There was no structure. Just did what he wanted. That's what really bothered Hector how unpredictable Achilles was all the time. Didn't know what direction he would attack from
@@raffarmenio6933 Ultimately it is a fictional fight, so there's no truth to be found beyond what the choreographer Simon Crane intended to portray in this scene.

The small sequence at the start where hector and Achilles are using their spear one handed raised above their head? That’s 1:1 depiction to Greek pottery. That’s as close as you get to how we understand the Greeks fought. . But the superman punches/stabs with the sword? The fancy fluid movement? Absolutely put in there for style. A mix of fiction and non-fiction. A mix of myth and truth. A fantastic display of fight choreography.

I remember I watched the very old version of the movie when I was a kid in 90’s. The movie underlined the roping of Hector with a bond made of ox tail after the fight to the carrier too much and this movie gave the same vibes of despair when Brad binds the Hector to the horse.

@@ItzGoldfish1 My man, Achilles was worthy to win this fight. The duel was fair, Hector was a cunning warrior and Achilles was the greatest fighter of all time
@@macysondheimDork get a life
Hector REALLY didn’t do too bad for fighting the single greatest warrior of all time
I think Achilles says Hector was the best he’s ever fought, later in the movie.
Ajax was whooping Hector also….Ajax by the odyssey is the second greatest warrior to ever live 2 to Achilles only
Achilles was not the greatest but one of the greatest warriors of all time.
@@sagnikdas113who's the greatest?
“There are no pacts between lions and men” a subtle nod to his divinity is what makes this so good. Hector being the pinnacle of man, and Achilles the mortal embodiment of war. Hector fights valiantly and honorably, however war inevitably claims all who fight them.
Nice take. Cool.
One of the most heart breaking deaths i've seen
Including Achilles himself!🤘
Hector's the tragic hero of this story. If his father had listened to his son's advice instead of relying on the gods for everything, it might not have come to this.
It's most likely if his brother didn't bang wang every wives
In the stories, the gods are very real
Hector is pussy
@@dragansnyder2786 Every characters got punished by the Gods in a way, the only one who didn't get punished or died is Odysseus because he is the only one who does not defy the Gods in the Iliad, and in the movie he mentions it himself that they each have a gift from the gods and they must live with it
"Now you know who you're fighting" one of the most badass lines. However, the more I watch this movie, the more I think Hector is the best character.

By the lore It wouldn't even scratch his skin. Only his heel can be wounded
@@inchyokk Yes. But it didn't scratch his skin. Just his armor.😊
Troy honestly has the best coordinated spearfighting I've seen in a movie.

Yup. Achilles really wanted to win with the spear to prove he was better, knowing hectors choice of weapon was the spear. If not for the gods hector would still be alive. In the book it was a roll of the dye that determined the outcome because both were favored by the gods
@ALChewBacca Yeah Hermes tricked Hector to stop running from Achilles in the story.

He could've done anything but stab the kid with the sword after he slit his throat. He would've at least got Achilles's respect if he delivered the body to him in person. After Helios informs Hector that Patroclus is masquerading as Achilles, he guides Hector's hand to stab Patroclus, then strips his armor off and wears it, before being confronted by Achilles without armor. In Greek mythology,
Achilles was the son of Zeus' grandson Peleus and the Nereid Thetis
Achilles was naturally very strong, swift, and agile
he was also trained by the immortal centaur Chiron who was Zeus' half brother
Thetis dipped Achilles in the river Styx but one of his heels was vulnerable. She had held him by that heel when she dipped him.
One of his feats of strength was strangling Cycnus to death. Cycnus was a son of Poseidon.

Yeah it is. They’re definitely both extremely well fighters.

This is hector the fool who think he can kill achilles,
How brad pit deliver his line was incredible.😊
Great analysis.
Hector was a great warrior, he didn't have a cheat code from his mother that made him nearly invincible.

Hector, a man of true chivalric integrity. To stand and know you cannot win, but to fight anyway; to right a wrong.
This scene will always be legendary, these guys nailed it. The tension was there even after he was killed, amazing.
Imagine how much training these 2 actors did to perfect this scene ❤
Hector was a best trained warrior but Achilles was a born warrior, the art of war is in his blood , in his DNA.This is what we understand in this fight sequence.
That last sequence where he disarms Hector of the spear and then fakes the first strike and plants the spear the 2nd time was so clean.
Poor stone : he just want some glory
One of if not The Best duel Scenes Ever
The best Fight Choreografie of all time!!!!! Pitt & Bana did an amazing Job!!!!!
I remember watching Troy for the first time when I was a kid. I was thinking "later I want to be like Achilles"
Then you realise you should be Hector. Achilles is dominated by his ego and emotions and doomed since the beginning. Hector is the most decent, brave and humble man of the Iliad and the real "human model" to follow for Greeks, where Achille is a demi-god far from mortals.
To be fair... this was a fight between a Man and a Demigod.
Achilles' standing epithet in The Iliad is "swift-footed", which they did a great job of portraying in the movie.
The way he just plays with his food towards the end is both dope and straight disrespectful 😂
All the two best of warriors fought for a characterless man and a runaway whoore, bravo
Hector is a good man but why would u want to vote for him. He killed achilles cousin, so achilles wants revenge
@@insultlk how many cousins has achilles killed?
2:20 this move is so 🔥
“I won’t let a stone take my glory” 🔥🔥
This is my favorite battle scene in a movie. Excellent!
They really don’t make movies like this anymore.
Still one of my all time favorites
They make Barbie.
Dune
This scene is actually better without the music. The silence of just them fighting, swords slashing and can hear their breath makes it a lot more thrilling.
Paris -"I wont ask you to fight my battles brother"
Hector - literally fighting and dying in his war
Weak men were always a curse I guess.
This movie also points out how kings are often those weak men.
"Imagine a king who fights his own battles."
@@herbderbler1585 A commander who goes into battle himself is a dumb commander.
One of the best fighting moment in cinema history. Every second is epic
You won't have eyes tonight
you won't have ears or a tongue
you will wonder the under world blind deaf and dumb
and all the dead will know
this is Hector
the fool, who thought he killed Achilles
gives me chills every time!
how the hell people don't like mythology is beyond me!
The enhaced quality can make 2000 movies look like they just been released by netflix.. amazing
rightt
I honestly can't tell if this is a compliment.
Netflix wishes they did something this good...
@@neddhu agreed!!!
Netflix is trash
This is the biggest "I'm him" moment in Greek mythology.
We admire Achilles but we love Hector
Cheers...
Probably the best fight scene of all time
What made this scene great was the fact that you're rooting for both of them.
im not rooting for achilles! i was rooting for hector!!!
In the movie version no sane person would root for Achilles, probably not even he himself.
@@BarelloSmithI did and do.
As a child I always rooted for Achilles as an adult I still root for him!!
@@kimmoreels7950my youngest sister always rooted for hector
“You won’t have eyes tonight, you won’t have ears or a tongue. You will wander the underworld blind, deaf and dumb and all the dead will know. This is hector. The fool who thought he had killed Achilles.”
Whew. Cold ass line.
Brad at his most beautiful. This is still one of my favorite movies and it was so underrated when it came out.
So incredible this version in 4k 60fps.❤
This isn’t the 60fps version. that’s on my other channel
@@ItzGoldfish1 Sorry, i'll watch the other version too.
I commented on this, I think it’s too smooth.
I'm now watching this clip just because of my study purpose. This is an epic poem written by the great writer, Homer
@@sangsanprohmvitak3922thats not entirely true, they used old depictions and artifacts of some of those exotic poses he does and built them into the fight scene. like when he has the shield behind his head and sticks his sword out, that is from a real source
This fight is actually based of some traditional fighting techniques depicted in Greek pottery.
@@evanverplank7242 I see, so it really is a "principled style" like I suspected
I love when Achilles looks down in surprise that somebody actually managed to scratch his armour
I remember when I was young, I wanted to be Achilles. But now as an adult, I realized I needed to be Hector. 🥺
Sucks when you want both of them to win.
Nah I only wanted Hector to win. His character had more meaning
Only Npc's want Achillies to win in this fight. Hector is the real man of integrity. Achillies is a unlikable arrogant prick who fights for his personal glory. Hector fights for his family and his country.
@@Manul23392in some versions, Achilles didn’t want to fight for glory but his mother made him. His mother was portrayed as evil and manipulating unlike this film. In those versions it also made sense about why Achilles wanted to kill Hector so much. Patroclus was his lover and they had spent an entire life literally together. But yeah I was rooting for hector in this fight, was a way better character than Achilles
@@Manul23392 Think who Hector is fighting for! For Paris!
And to think... that monster of a fighter gets killed by Paris.
For a brief moment Achilles had found his match even breathing hard towards the end a valiant effort by Hector but he knew his demise was near
Not found his match. He just realised he had to raise his level to finish the job. The final blow was unstoppable. Nobody was blocking that.
This is a beautiful historical fight and both are great.
I remember I watched the very old version of the movie when I was a kid in 90’s. The movie underlined the roping of Hector with a bond made of ox tail after the fight to the carrier too much and this movie gave the same vibes of despair when Brad binds the Hector to the horse.
One of the best hand to hand combat scenes I've ever seen.
"Get up Prince of Troy! I will not let a rock steal my glory!" 😳 Geesh!
Am I the only one here who’s watched this movie *literally* over 500 times? What a master piece. Achilles: he slashed my armor and I took that person (MJ voice 😂)
I’m with you
One of the best fight scenes ever, no stunt men either, all them.
He admitted later that hector was the best he ever fought!
Fun fact:Brad Pitt played in movies with two Hulk actors,he played here with Eric Bana, and played with Edward Norton in Fight club.
Also with Thalia AlGhul of The Dark Knight Rises in Allied.
Don't forget Spiderman's girlfriend in Interview with the vampire 🤣 I cannot believe it, really ?
This never gets old...
Awesome edit taking Out the other characters stares cuts
Yeah, I thought there reactions and the overdramatic faint at the end was a little unnecessary for the this video. Especially because I upscaled it to 4K. So it just would have taken longer anyways.
Love this movie honestly. Yeah, it's not perfectly accurate to the original work, it has some stilted dialogue, but the style of it and visuals are absolutely immaculate and they don't make'em like this anymore.
