BMW E89 Z4 Parking Sensor/Reversing Camera Install

  • Here I install after-market parking sensors and reversing camera into my BMW E89 Z4 and hook them up to my Android Touchscreen.
    With this hook-up the camera feed goes through the parking sensors and in so doing means that the sensors distance is displayed on top of the video image.
    This is a long job so make sure you have plenty of time and be very careful with the rear bumper clips as you can easily break them.
    The parts I got were…
    Parking sensors;

    Reversing camera; (this is a loose fit, so I cannot recommend it!)
    www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Revers...

    Crimping pliers;

    Waterproof connectors;
    www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5x-2Pin-Ca...
    Thank you for watching and I hope you like it.
    My aim is to publish a video as often as I can and they'll be directly connected with the BMW Z4 E89 2009 to 2016 range.
    My next videos should be;
    Cruise Control Retro-fit.
    Auto lights - Auto wipers retrofit.
    Auto dimming interior mirror.
    If there are any specific subjects you'd like me to cover in the future then please let me know.

      My rear indicator light has begun to fail intermittently. Forums say this is mainly due to water ingress/condensation build up due to a faulty rubber seal. It sounds like a similar problem to yours. How did you fix yours? Was there an obvious defect in the rubber?

    Hey Dave. Might also be worth adding that at 5min 20secs the bolt that’s right up behind the bumper, through the wheel arch that needs removing with the extension bar is also an 8mm. There is a 10mm bolt right next to it. That is for bodywork and holds the upper part of the wing to the car and is no use at all in this operation!

    • @milovan8565
      @milovan8565 Год назад

      The 10 mm bolt you're talking about is a painted bolt and shouldn't be confused with the 8mm bolts which are the same ones holding all of the bumper and wheel well liners.
      In my case however on my US Z4, rather than an 8 mm bolt, I had a T20 galvanized torx screw; I ended up confirming that my ratchet and extension was in the same location as Dave's so I unscrewed it and out came the bumper without busting any tabs..

      In this video those came that colour, but I have a new video coming soon where I retrofit OEM full PDC and I bought a rattle can in my correct colour.

    Dave, at the 9:27 mark when you start to remove the bumper from the side, would it be better to first apply a heat gun to the seam where you're going to pull the side bumper away, to make the tabs less likely to break? Press and hold the roof open button, when the rear roof is on top of the front roof section and the deck has opened to the vertical point, release the button and it will stop at this point.
      If you have an aftermarket roof module (like SmartTop) then open the roof like normal but once it's at the right position press the close button once, and this will stop the movement.

    David, I came across some instructions on the Internet that talk about the differences in installing the power wires for the rear camera, based on whether you have a manual transmission like yours, or an automatic transmission like mine. Basically it says that you do not need to connect the red and black wires to the reverse lights if you have an automatic transmission. Can you confirm that is accurate?
