The darkening around the frets themselves was extremely well done. 👍🏻
Thank you!
What type of colour did you use?
Love the fret board and neck
you are the only guy wich shows your finishing and relic jobs with no TABU... Gibson and Fender should learn from you... love your work
Thank you!
Yup, Alex knocks the Murphy lab out of the park.

@@8BombCustom , I placed an order with Valeriy 👍
Great job Dr. Nitro, you put as lot of work into that guitar and it turned out great!
Thank you!
I've been building guitars for a long time. But this video taught me a lot. Especially appreciate seeing how you Relic the neck that has always been something that I didn't want to attempt. But I'm going to give it a shot now. Thanks very much for the information. Very happy to be a new subscriber.😊🍻
Thank you
Dr Nitro is an expert at restoring rare works of art. He really is an inspiration.
Your videos are so inspirational and informative that i am now confident i can relic my own guitar.
Thank you. There will be even more detailed videos on my Patreon. www.patreon.com/8bombcustom
Relics are great. They are just as much a work of art and require as much skill as a perfect sunburst finish. I love these videos.
thank you!
Wow. He has everything to build a guitar in his workshop
Awesome result! I like the tint of the fretboard a lot !
Thank you!
Fantastic job on this Tele. Tastefully done.
Thank you
That neck looks absolutely amazing, excellent work.
Thank you
just perfect. thanks so much for sharing the process!
Thank you!
Impressive work! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing that!
Great work as always, you gave lots of character to that tele.
Thank you!
The first good guitar I bought was a MIJ Tele. It has the perfect feeling relic job but it took 35 years of playing to do it which even though it feels amazing isn’t the most efficient way to do a relic. I love this one but the only way I can get a decent relic doing it myself is use a extremely thin finish so I wears quickly.
I got a lot of joy from this - thank you :)
Thank you!
I found after many times experimenting with relicing knowing when to stop is the key. You did a great job on that telecaster.
You're absolutely right. Thank you.
No. In this guitar was no poly.
Okay thank you.
Exceeded my expectations. Very detailed work.
Thank you
You have a great talent for refinishing! Beautiful ! I wished my 52' reissue from 1991 looked like that....
Thank you
Thank you! Neck looks great
Thank you!
It's funny how many people have been falsely informed about tone woods on solid body guitars. The wood has zero to do with the tone of the pickups. It's like thinking a stereo will sound better with a wood casing than it will a plastic casing. The pickups, pots, bridge, capacitors and bridge saddles are the only things that have to do with tone.
However an acoustic or Hollow body will make a difference in tone woods.
Drums, now that's got everything to do with tone woods. But you can take a 2x4, and wire a pickup under it, and get outstanding sound from it.
But in the words of the late, great Mark Twain
"It's easier for a person to believe a lie than it is for that same person to believe that he's been lied to." So believe what you want.
🤣🤣🤣👍
Wow, it is quite an art form.....great job!.
Thank you!
You can see the happy face when he starts playing, that's awesome, you're very talented.
Thank you!
Beautiful job
Awesome job!
Thank you!
The finish on the fingerboard is beautiful. It must be very satisfying to produce such great work.
Thank you!
Awesome work, man! Really enjoyed it. Glad that I found your channel, your videos are outstanding! All the best to you!
Thank you!
Beautiful work as always Professor Nitro! 😉
Thank you! ))
I have a 2023 American Vintage II 1957 Strat, and I can confirm that it's a fake "nitro" poly mixture, on top of a super hard plastic polyester (fullerplast?) layer.
Such good work! I love watching your channel
Thank you!
Excellent job!
Thank you!
Just found your channel and I really enjoy and admire your work!! Really fantastic! I'm slowly binge watching all the episodes and look forward to seeing your future work. I've also subscribed. Best wishes and thanks for sharing!!!

I'm on the fence about relicing. Your work is tasteful and well done.
Thank you!
wow!! beatiful job!! its amazing job!!
Thank you!
Looks unreal!
You did a beautiful job on your Tele!
Thank you
😮 Now it makes one realise just what time & effort it takes to make a Relic guitar - Looks awesome 😯
Thank you
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Really wonderful work ! ❤
Thank you
That is exactly how you do the fret board ,great guitar
great relic job !! looks amazing !!
Thank you
Beautiful work! Which oil did you use for the back of the neck? Mine has been sanded down to bare wood but I’d prefer a light finish of some sort on it.
For this, you can use almost any oil that polymerizes. Tung oil, Danish oil, linseed oil. I love Rubio Monocoat two-component oil
That's a great one!
Thank you
Loved this, great video and amazing Tele!
Thank you
Master Job!
Thank you!
Wonderful.job!

Just like Tadeo Gomez signing the guitar...Beautiful.
very cool work!!
Thank you
Your work is amazing! I'd love to own one of your Les Paul's one day - it's a guitar goal for me.
Thank you.
AMAZING!
Thank you!
Fender was using a very soft nitro when the American Vintage Hot Rod guitars were made.
They are using a new formula as of 2020 that wears much faster. It cracks very easily too, no need for a huge temperature differential.
Thank you
It's beautiful. Wish I was close to you - I have a Tele that could use some improvements like this!
Looks amazing sounds 👍 great.
Thank you!
Excellent
Thank you
Gtrat job. Another win for Dr. Nitro. Love a humbucker in the neck.
Thank you!
Wonderful love it
Thank you
I stripped a 1999 Fender 52 reissue. I didn't have a heat gun. I used 80 grit sandpaper. There was like 4 layers of paint. When I thought I reach the wood I didn't it had a plastic base coat. It was like a pound lighter when I was finished.
Man, that sounds great! Looks good too but the sound!!!
Thank you
Nitro man!! that neck looks fantastic.
Thank you!
Very Nice!
Thank you!
Looks awesome!👍😎🎸🎶
Thank you
@@8BombCustom yep!
That neck came out sweet.
Thank you
@@8BombCustom what’s that dye you use on the neck and where do you buy it from ?
Dr. Nitro is a true Artisan. These guitars are beautiful creations. Each video is truly inspiring with Dr.Nitro revealing his tricks of the trade and fine details that makes these guitars so wonderful. Even installing PAT Applied For Custom Wound Humbucking PUPS.
This gives me the knowledge and confidence to strip and refinish my Dreadnaught Acoustic Guitar. I have also found a paint shop that can mix any colour Nitrocellulose paint into a rattle can.
Thank you!
If Fender is saying it's nitro, it is. That said, nitro, like any finish, can be softer if coats are put on too thick. Gibson's are classic for this. Goopy thick and sometimes soft nitro. Probably do this to save time/money. Nitro and varnish are the most susceptible. Poly less susceptible to being soft if coats put on too thick. It actually hardens quite well comparatively. After finishing wood forever, mixing shellacs, etc, I started using poly more and more for work cuz it doesn't need so many coats, hardens better, etc. That's for things that need getting done. I would sometime compromise, and hand rub poly. Get the look of varnish, but more durable. Then start mixing my own poly, adding varnish, linseed, whatever. Poly basically just has more hardener in it, but similar make up to varnish. Nitro, whole other story, but love the look and feel.
What size buffer wheels are you using? I’d like to get a buffer like that.
Amazing job friend!..how long do you wait between one cycle and the other to remove excess oil paint from the keyboard? thank you
I would also like to know how long did you leave the oil paint on the fretboard before you wiped it down. Also how long did you wait before you lacquered over it ? Big fan ,you do great work. Very tasteful.
Hey Dr. Nitro! Question: do you mix anything to the oil paint?
I’m trying to do the same thing here but the color doesn’t stay pigmented on the neck even if I leave the oil paint for 24h.
Thanks for sharing all these amazing content!
Thumbs up as always
Thank you!
I love that fretwork results! Do you think its possible to do that starting from a satin finish maple neck very raw ?
Very cool video, thank you for making it :)!! I have a Fernandez MIJ telecaster that has a thick polyurethane/Polyester coating on body and neck...Thinking Of using heat gun and removing the coating and wondering if I should use tung oil as a finish on the body, any thoughts?? I have used this on an acoustic guitar with good success... your thoughts would be greatly appreciated and respected :) I also firmly believe a guitar must be free from such a confining thick coat of poly whatever :)
Really nice job, man.
Did you protect the fretboard with a nitro clear coat after aging and darkening the frets?
Thank you. Yes, I have add one layer of nitro.
So inspiration! 🥰 I love the dark color relic near the frets and after watching your video I plan to do on my strat neck. Did you have to sand the fretboard before you apply the oil paints (mars brown and yellow)? And after apply the oil paints and the pencil charcoal on the relic fretboards do you have to use nitro on top again? 🙏
I did a thin amber layer on the fretboard, but didn't film it. After sanding, the fretboard became more contrasting.
Thank you so much for your reply. 🙏
@@8BombCustom sorry to ask you again, but did you do a thin layer of nitro laqcuer again after the oil paint on the neck? would it stay on the neck even without the extra top nitro layer? thank you!
by the way, your job is awesome!
nice and not over done. more believable
Thank you
Awesome job. Personally I have a similar model tele (squier) and in same color. I want to darken the maple neck and fret board. What color varnish you suggest? I think I could use the same as you did on yours. I liked it
Thank you. There will be even more detailed videos on my Patreon. www.patreon.com/8bombcustom
The neck relic is amazing! How long did you leave the paint on before wiping off?
Thank you. Aboyt 20 minutes
Excellent job man… what paint you use to finish around frets? Brown/yellow and black, yes but what kind of varnish? Thanks
Thank you. Oil paint, Nitro.
Yours relics are allways amazing. You could try to relic a squier strat or tele just for fun and educative purpose. Saludos
Thanks. Since the Squaer and similar budget guitar lines are covered with polyester, an adequate realistic replica in this case is very ambiguous. Polyester varnish has the most negative effect on sound, so it is better to remove it completely immediately. But polyester is removed only mechanically. Sandpaper or scraper. It takes a lot of time and effort. That's why I don't work with polyester now. The essence of the relic is in the details, and nitrolac is best suited for this. No other polish ages like this and has a vintage texture.
Which model of your PAFs did you put in? And what pickup is the bridge? And what amp were you testing through? It’s the tone I’ve been chasing!
It was a custom model with A3 magnet. Fender Junior AMP
Amazing work I love your videos, I am about to build a blackguard style telecaster Myself using a 2 piece ash body. I don’t have access to a compressor for paint unfortunately but am pretty good with nitrocellulose aerosol paint cans to achieve a nice finish. Can I just ask your advice on achieving the butterscotch colour please, am I best buying a butterscotch nitro aerosol ready mix colour and then applying some Amber tinted clear over the top or would I just be better using just Amber tinted clear and build up the coats? I will also use a natural grain filler and a sealer coat prior to spraying. Thanks I appreciate any advice you can give on achieving the colour with the nitro spray cans? Thanks.
Thanks. For the vintage paint scheme, there should be a white base coat after the pore filler. Since it is thin enough, it is translucent. After that, the color is recruited with a tinted yellow (amber) varnish. The finish coat can be clean. A aerosol spray can also work well on a guitar, but it is more difficult than a spray gun. pressure and nozzle stains are not enough for an even layer of clear paint. But it is possible. If there is a relic later, then no problem. Relic masks all mistakes.
SimonwGB. I can relate.
All I have iaccess to is cans of nitro. Even have to buff with drill and foam pads.
Good luck in your butterscotch quest.
@@8BombCustom thanks for the reply and advice I appreciate it. I have a white nitro spray can primer so will apply a few thin coats. Thanks it sounds like the Amber tinted clear is the best approach, would you also then recommend a 10 day drying time before wet sanding and polish? I will then be lightly relicing the finish. Thanks again and great work 😊
@@germancarluv thanks good luck with your project too, I am going to try the white base coat and Amber tinted clear as Dr Nitro has advised, just need to work out if Amber or weakest Amber clear would be my best option.
Noticed you put the body in the freezer...how long did you leave it inside for? And did it create a lot or little checking? Linear or spider web like?
My freezing technology consists of several cycles at a temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius. The time of each cycle is different and depends on the nitro. Degrees of hardness and drying. So cracks are obtained perpendicular to the grain of the wood and exactly repeat the effect of the varnish cracking from time . A spider web is obtained by using a sharp surface cooling using liquefied carbon dioxide or nitrogen. This method does not give realism and can damage the splicing nodes of the parts.
Too much on the neck redo. I mean, the entire first and fourth fret? Seriously? The rest? Awesome!
Thank you!
Hi mate, can I ask how you applied the amber varnish and what varnish you used?
All answers to technical questions with a detailed explanation can be found on Patreon in the Maker level: www.patreon.com/8bombcustom
If you want the fingerboard to look completely authentic, string it up and play it with graphite powder, olive oil and a little brown stain on your fingers on the neck before you finish it.
Then use the template of actual finger marks to remove the lacquer in this spots.
Great job! new sub, I'm trying to relic a tele and could not find a good trick to get fret wear. thanks,
Thank you
Really nice work. May I ask in which city you live? I have some guitar building ideas boiling in my head and one day those ideas have to covered with a thin layer of nitro...
Thalk you. I live in Belarus.

Thank you

Incredible work! Can we use any oil paint or a specific brand to darken around the frets?
Thanks. The paint brand is not important. The pigment of the paint itself is important.
@@8BombCustom mars brown dark and Indian yellow oil paint and mix it up together then right?
Thank you for responding! You’re incredible
Yes. Thank you.
Well done - you are a magician!!! I love what you do!!!!
Thank you!
Really good work. Have you tried soda blasting the paint from poly or any paint/ gloss guitars and it seems really fast without damaging softest of woods. People take paint from a soda can and does not dent the thin can. Just unusual never saw anyone do this?
Thank you. Soda is too aggressive and can lift the varnish too much in some places and penetrate the wood. This method is suitable if there is nothing else at hand. I use a more controlled way where I can fine-tune the effect of the varnish lifting around the cracks and not soaking the wood too much.
@@8BombCustom i thought to fully strip guitar. Less pressure? Saw soda can paint removed no dent in can.
@@mabul513 🤔 I doubt that this is possible with nitrolac.
Hello, it turned out incredible. I would like to ask what type of paint you use to age the mast, is it oil or acrylic paint? thank you!
Great video. One small issue - this is probably just a mistranslation because you obvious know the subject well, but nitrocellulose is a lacquer, not a varnish. Sometimes the words are used carelessly in English, but really a varnish consists of a resin, a drying oil, and a thinner or solvent.
Thanks. Since in my native language all lacquer coatings are called with one word, I can make mistakes. Thanks for the explanation.
Why is this guy not working for Gibson or Fender???....incredible work!!!!
Thank you! I have never worked for anyone in my life. This is my degree of freedom. ))
Love this video! My opinion, you don't need the backing track of music.
Thank you
Dr. Nitro, what kind of paint do you use for the darkening around the frets? Acrylic or oil? Can you name the brand?
Would be too nice to hear an answer- this dude rocks 👍🏻

Thank you from your amazing work and sharing with us !
May I ask which company is your mars brown and Indian yellow from ?
Thank you. The brand doesn't matter. The main thing is the pigments themselves. Many brands of artistic paints have these. The names of the pigments do not differ.

Dr. Nitro, awesome job. What is the Mars brown dark color you use around the frets?
