the snailface at the end
Haha, I was curious if anyone would see it
Personally, I'll do around 10k verts before multiresolution modifier and then add 4 or 5 levels. I've managed to sculpt with over 50 million verts, without lag. Although my PC is higher end. Thanks for putting the word out, Jan! Always appreciate your emails and updates.
Is it possible to say what hardware you have ?
@@ZergRadio I wouldn't be surprised if it was an i7 or i9 CPU. I'd go for any of the current up to date CPUs if you wanted to do high poly sculpting. An i7 13700k or higher would do the trick.

WoW That is much better than what I have right now. Intel Xeon E5-2697 v2 (12 cores, 24 threads) @2.75Ghz (But I got it for dirt cheap!)
@@ZergRadio Ah, yeah. I would grab something that has a much higher clock speed since Blender's performance while you're using it for animation or sculpting is single threaded. Get something with as much speed as you can with an okay number of cores/threads.
Definitely a huge difference!
Dude, you saved our lives again!
I've always wanted to do sculpting but I have a laptop not meant for gaming, so I try to sculpt, it LAAGGGGS like crazy. I'm definitely gonna try this method out!
Thank you so much for your work❤
Handy tip, thanks. I was confused about this issue of when to subdivide. Also, Thank you for the Bonus Nightmare Fuel that prevented Google from converting your fine tutorial into the hated nightmare, pointless "short" format. You do great work. Also love your ebook. I'm still working my way through it.
Thank you! And thanks for watching until the end 🐌
Wow, that seems helpful. I am going to have to try it. I was doing block-outs in Blender and going to Nomad to do detail and retopo.
I love your Blender tips truly fantastic 👏👏👏👏👏👏
I love this videos are so helpful!
This dude is hands down the best at this ish 😂
Thank you
SNAIL
Are you planning on putting out more performance improvement tips?
This is a good tip to know, thanks Jan. Haha! I like how you intentionally kept the video at 61 seconds in length to prevent it from turning into a RUclips short. Personally, I am not a fan of RUclips shorts, especially for tutorial videos, because it seems like I can't drag the video slider bar. Is there a way to do this that I'm not aware of?
No, shorts can be paused but have to be played all the way through from start to finish which makes them pretty useless for tutorial videos IMO.
All u need to do is change the short url, to make it a "normal" video.
I can't demonstrate the url here as dumb yt keeps removing my comment.
Just use say chatGPT to show u how.
I hate shorts!
감사합니다~
Amazing video! also have an amazing day everyone!
The snail face looks like something from Berserk 😱
But why? Isn't it the same thing but created through other tool?
The problem is the instance the first was polygons made only from the modifier which makes the computer process the modifier every change but the second one has less polygons madera from the modifier so is les changes to content every moment(that why we apply modifiers when animating)
Good question and answer
My Brain: it is okay the snail is not real that can´t hurt you
also my Brain: but it can lick you
now i can´t sleep anymore
Always surround your bed with salt, just in case.
Apply sub-div before adding multires mod.
Any suggestions on good channels/videos/etc (preferably free) to learn sculpting? Not *Blender* sculpting, but how to understand how to make the shapes with whatever technology? Like, the art part of it?
is there a special setting for blender to make the cube look like this? its kinda smooth/sharp edged and looks much cooler than my default ^^
Go to Viewport shading (the dropdown beside the buttons to select shading mode) and turn on cavity. Change the ridge, valley and other settings to your liking.
@@askeladden450 thanks man!
I don't do a lot of sculpting but you have my like for the bonus nightmare fuel!
Btw. I didn't know YT automatically turns short vids into Shorts, I thought it's up to the author - you wanna make a short, you make a short.
No, it's not up to us. If a video is less than 61 seconds and not widescreen, it becomes a short. That's why all my old videos were automatically converted. I didn't even realise it until several people told me. I had no idea what they were talking about at first, or what shorts even were. Very frustrating, and there's no way to undo it.
@@BlenderSecrets Did that affect your audience traffic on youtube?
@@mipe7755 Not really, fortunately
@@BlenderSecrets Fortunately? I'd think any added traffic would be good. Are the shorts crowds, you know, (evil)? Maybe the snail can keep them away. You know, like a gargoyle.
@@NotSoMuchFrankly I mean, fortunately it didn't go down. It doesn't really do anything. My channel is really a "search" channel, meaning people come to it while searching for a solution to some issue. It's not like they just watch these videos as entertainment. So maybe if they were entertaining they would work better as shorts.
That Snail reminds me of the Seaman game on the Dreamcast.
CAUTION

Haha! Maybe we can pitch it to Sega! Get leonard Nim... oh, right
Hi👏 , I'm an self animator, do you have a video that a 3d character getting in a ship, car,or flying ships, could you make a tutorial on that because I try to render it, I couldn't figure it out, your more smarter than me , because I'm working on a project, thank you 🙂
Wait i dont get what the difference is between this and remeshing constantly. Im terrible at blender though
Hahahah the scary part😂
but can you explain why?
The comment above yours mentions that modifiers have to generate and process more geometry (verts) and go through more steps (levels) whereas having more verts to begin with means the bottle-neck (the modifier) requires fewer iterations of its time-consuming job.
@@NotSoMuchFrankly thanks
They will make the performance much better eventually, they will reverse engineer that Zbrush magic somehow
Ya but why is the real question.. seems like this is more of a bug than a feature.
Technically, snails aren't bugs. They're mollusks. (It's because you apply the subdiv, so it doesn't get recalculated on every change.)
@@darrennew8211 Top comment. Also it's because snails are slow. Modding them won't work b/c they can't be turbo charged.
Or maybe those lazy devs should consider adding fake 3d or z-buffer onto 3d sculpting section just like z-brush instead of adding useless nodes and removing shade auto from quick menu
ew wtf
