Aussies of a generation when tall poppies were swiftly cut down to size. Nicole is always very careful about it and also careful not to be dismissive of her sucess in front of the Americans. I'd bet she learnt from Rusty's mistakes. He was seen as too cocky by the aussies, where to the Americans he was seen as disrespectful because he didn't claim credit for his sucess.

Kylie should've had a bigger role in that movie, she was blink and you'll miss her as the green fairy. Baz could've given him a singing number. I don't get it.
Not sure if you knew, but Kylie was cast and inserted after initial filming. That's one reason why she didn't have any input when Nicole was talking about the pre-production workshopping. The green fairy was originally played by Ozzie Osborne!
@@AndrewMacLaine Ozzy is still in the film - he does the voice after the Fairy changes - so I'm not sure that is true. Maybe they just decided to have two people playing the Fairy last minute?

The transition from documentary to direct narrative is never accounted for and most viewers don't notice, but it reveals a change in scripting after production had begun.
As for Luhrmans other films: hot messes, the lot of them. I couldn't stand his Gatsby with its timewarping music and overly kinetic mayhem. The one thing he did right was to highlight the astonishing racism of the era. But to assume that Fitzgerald was being racist is an egregious disregard for the authenticity Fitzgerald had LIVED first hand and was in fact actually TELLING intelligent readers.
Anyhoo: YES Baz is addicted to endless workshopping and only one of his films doesn't glaringly reveal that fact.
