I really enjoy your videos thanks for taking the time to do them. I have learned a lot. I leave a clear fitting(45 degree flush fittings aimed toward drain)on my outlets so I know if my valves were closed and sealed. I then hold the hose under the outlet cap when I open it just to catch the ounce or so of water that gathers behind the cap. We have 2 grey tanks(rear kitchen)so we dump the galley tank first as the food makes it stinkier then the shower and BR sink grey tank, double check galley tank valve is closed, drain the hose, cap the galley tank outlet, switch the hose to the front outlet, and then dump the black tank followed by doing a black tank flush(we have a small diameter black 25 ft coiled hose for this)for 5 minutes or until flow is clear and finally we dump the BR grey tank(on the same outlet as black on our trailer). Then I lift up the hose and walk it to the drain to get most of the waste out of the hose( make sure you weigh down the hose at drain so it does not come out) and then I double check all the valves to make sure they are closed and remove the hose and quickly rotate it under the fitting to catch any remaining water as I replace the cap on the trailer outlet. If I do it right there is only a drop or two on the ground and never any black water. If the black tank flush water is over the drain I will flush my hose again into the drain. Finally I collapse my hose and cap both ends before putting it in my black tub, remove my gloves replace the lid and use my hand sanitizer. The main thing is don’t get rattled if people are waiting just slowly and methodically do your steps have your copilot watch the first few times and always ask yourself if the next step will put water(or worse) on the ground. You will get fast in time and the clear fittings and double checking all valves are closed will stop the catastrophic accidents;). Oh and buy some knee pads and leave them in your black tub they will save your knees and kneeling in someone else’s crap is not too appealing. My Wife fills the fresh water tank while I dump the tanks so the potable water system is not contaminated by my grubby hands. Just my system and my 2 cents worth.
I just bought my first camper trailer. Making sure I know how to do all these things and also I can check to make sure I have all these things I need lol. Thank you sir !
I'm renting a 21' travel trailer in 2 weeks. It will be first time for me with anything RV related. I'm learning so many things. This is a must know. Thanks.
Hey Randy, thanks for sharing your RV video. I'm glad I watched your video on how to clean the back and gray tanks. I like to educate myself first before doing anything. Your video was very clear and easy to understand with your the demonstration. So now when I purchased or rent an RV, I will have a better understanding about the dumping the wastes in the tanks. Thank you.
build up is good in both tanks before dumping. Main thing is keeping sensors wet and clean not dry even though your full hook up your routine should be to let both fill to max and how ever often it is go out and pull your gate valves rinse and repeat....
Enjoy having a toilet and use it as you wish. Just fallow the instruction add the enzymes and you'll be fine. Use the flush built in system if you have one.
I imagine the hose behind you is for rinsing out your hose before storing it? This may sound like a Captain Obvious question, the fluids coming out looked very clear but I imagine, normally it wouldn't? Looking to purchase a camper now and want to check off every detail.
Hi ... brand new to this. What is the plastic connector from the hose to the out valve called and also the one that goes to the ground that you took off because it doesn't fit where you are....nice video and thanks a lot for taking the time to share.
What do you suggest about dumping when it's only one person and you camp maybe a couple of nights and then don't camp for another two weeks and this may be the routine. Not much in your tanks but don't want to leave it there for two weeks. Do you add more water somehow and dump or what?
Great walk through. This was such a crap shoot the first time I did it. Although it is easier to do on my travel trailer than it is on my sprinter van. The angle is so low on my van I need leveling devices to help . Small unit big problems lol.
If you do have a sewer flush, I do recommend that it is used. I will use the wand if no flush is built into black tank. Will help with sensors in the black tank for sure! Thanks for watching! Randy
Isn't there another step where you use the garden hose to flush out the sewer hose with clean water? I have seen attachments that you connect to it for cleaning the hose. What about those after market elbows that have a connection for a garden hose that jets water back into the black tank to flush it out as well?
That is just another device to buy. I would empty black then grey. Then you can always repeat. Use water to fill the tanks again and flush. You can only take so many precautions. Then maybe flush the black tank a few times a month with the flush valve near the fresh water fill. Most are there on Rvs or some older ones may not have it. Hope this helps.
Some smaller campers do share a waist water tank. If you do only have one tank, leave closed until full then dump. Or dump before leaving campground so not to bring waist water home. Thanks for watching! Randy
Sandra, the largest pipe is black water, ie, toilet, you want leave all “T” handles closed so as not to allow sewer fumes to backflow in to your RV. Dump gray occasionally but hold some to rinse hose out when you dump black tank
Bad advice on leaving any valves open while hooked up. RVs don’t have P traps to stop sewer gases from entering the RV. Especially if you use your bathroom exhaust fan. This slight negative pressure will suck sewer gases directly in thru sinks and showers drains.
Create your own 'trap' by setting up the outdoor sewer hose with a bend in it. I use the accordian support for the sewer hose, and it's pretty easy to do that. For overnight stops, I just empty before departing.
Hey there Chuck, Actually RV’s do have traps on sinks and shower drains by code, the tanks are also vented through the roof. I only recommend leaving the grey tank open to keep the grey water from backing up in the shower once the tank is full. If you are getting sewer gas in your camper through the sewer hose, you may want to bring your RV in for service. Thanks for watching!
THis guy should be in hollywood. Such a cool voice!!
Agreed! 😄
This was a very informative and helpful video for a first time camper owner. Thank you Randy
Hypnotized by the swinging cap!

Happy camping!
you were a great help! I'm very green, never owned a trailer before and just emptied my septic for the first time in my new trailer. thanks man
Happy to help! :)
Boy i am sure glad you mentioned holding some gray water to washout hose, that is the only way to go and do it properly
As a newbie inapprec your time in putting this together..Big Love 😊
What is that clear fitting called that hooked up to the black tank end?
am i the only one learning all about RV's and dont even own one?
Nope me to lol you never know
That's too funny because I'm doing the same thing. I won't tell if you won't. LOL
Same
@@rusticbychoice982 nope!

Great explanation!
What size is the black water discharge pipe? What is the clear adapter called?
I'm trying to learn as much as possible about rvs
You are one cool guy Randy. Well spoken and to the point. Enjoy the videos 👍
Great tip, did not know to let the black water stack up some. Thanks
Gray water, not black water, shower and sink water, empty black first then close valve and empty gray water
Very educational and helpful. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! :)
randy rocks. i come here just to watch randys videos which we need more of

We try hard not to do number two in the RV. Yes, it’s inevitable at times, but almost all parks have toilets.
Enjoy having a toilet and use it as you wish. Just fallow the instruction add the enzymes and you'll be fine. Use the flush built in system if you have one.

I would have put the gloves on before I ever touched the tank connections.
Darn, I wanted to see a bunch of turds floating by but thumbs up anyway😝👍🏼☮️
Luckily Randy is a pro! LOL

I just found one and bought it: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016V2JMBS/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Is it a good idea to dump a few gallons of water or run hose water through toilet while dumping black water?
I too use this toilet method. I bought one of those high pressure water sticks towards the end of draining Black water.
What do you suggest about dumping when it's only one person and you camp maybe a couple of nights and then don't camp for another two weeks and this may be the routine. Not much in your tanks but don't want to leave it there for two weeks. Do you add more water somehow and dump or what?
Renee, I have the same exact question. I've been searching for an answer on many forums and blogs.
How do you drain it if your not in a camp ground
Should we pump in some fresh water into the black water tank for storing in a non-freezing environment?
Yes you want to wash out any solids left behind, I rinse mine about two times
I close the black valve before opening the grey so as not to get any residual black water in the grey line. Any thoughts on which way is best?
You are fallowing protocol good job.
Great walk through. This was such a crap shoot the first time I did it. Although it is easier to do on my travel trailer than it is on my sprinter van. The angle is so low on my van I need leveling devices to help . Small unit big problems lol.
no pun intended.
Thanks Randy !
Thank you for the GREAT video! Hope to be doing it soon, LOL
would you do a black tank rinse? either with a wand in the toilet or with an external connection to the black tank?
If you do have a sewer flush, I do recommend that it is used. I will use the wand if no flush is built into black tank. Will help with sensors in the black tank for sure! Thanks for watching! Randy

great flick
That flapping cap is driving me crazy. I just want to grab it and stabilize it. Great video!
Randy, My Jasco camper don't have a separate drain for gray & Black . only 1 drain. is this a problem?
Some smaller campers do share a waist water tank. If you do only have one tank, leave closed until full then dump. Or dump before leaving campground so not to bring waist water home. Thanks for watching! Randy
Some campers have 2 tanks and one output line.
Thank you
I don't understand how my tanks are closed but when I do dishes my kitchen sink still drains out of the main drain opening out side.

...agree... gloves should go on before you touch anything...
First I though an alien invasion was taking place. But when I saw the end I knew an alien invasion took place. At one point in time. LOL LOL
