      AcidandRain Sorry for my ignorance, what stigma is attached to Somali culture?

    • @sommyxox
      @sommyxox 7 лет назад +35

      They just get so much hate. Dunno where you're from, but in england they're just thought of as the ugliest race, which is mad because you get just as much ugly/pretty somalis as you do black/white/asian people

    • @indomie7
      @indomie7 7 лет назад +3

      Whats the stigma attached to them lol?

    • @AcidandRain
      @AcidandRain 7 лет назад +96

      Somalis are often viewed as "less black" than other african countries due to looking what they perceive as "different", but Somalis are people with a strong culture, history and strength. They often stand up for themselves which make others resent them.

    • @indomie7
      @indomie7 7 лет назад +32

      Interesting, i'm Somali myself and definitely heard that before, just never realised there was a negative stigma as such. Generalising people from a country is just ridiculous.

It shocked me when we moved house and my oldest started making friends, the first thing he was asked by the other children was what race are you? and what religion? It was the same when he started secondary school. I remember when I was his age, race and religion never came in to it, you just played together.

      Whilst I completely disagree with people believing they have the right to comment on what race people date, I think what people need to remember and understand is the relationship between black men and women it comes to success and partnership.
      More so with black men but also black women, it's believed that dating outside your race is often a part of the territory when it comes to success. However, there are a lot of black men in positions of power that are with black women, so it's relative. We can not ignore that a significant amount of black men and women in particular black men, have chosen to begin dating outside their race solely because they believe members of their race are no longer dateable now that they're successful, however it can also be related to who's datable in your tax bracket. Moreover, one can not deny that a significant amount of black people that date outside their race, have chosen to degrade the women or men of their own race as justification, (not that justification is needed). This is fact, trust me. "I don't date black men because...I don't date black women because" followed by an internalised anti-black statement.
      Many black women have seen this first hand, and I think it's important not to dismiss the fact that many of our black male celebrities have spat on dark skin women in particular, after gaining success. (This is clearly not the case when it come to Maya and Michael, love them, love him, love her).
      I also despise the notion that mixed women aren't black enough. I believe that Mixed women have the right to identify as mixed but also as black if they wish to. Yes Maya is mixed...but would I still look at their relationship as "black love" of course. Does Maya still experience the international affects of anti-blackness,is she able to have a black experience as a mixed person YES! It's not choosing sides, the construction of race and racism often leaves many mixed people with the inability to choose, a mixed person can't choose white because they don't have the privelege of being transracial. We're not trying to make everyone choose black, its just not how the system of racism works peeps.
      There are an array of issues that should be addressed when it comes to this topic, and I believe it is a dialogue only to be had between black men and women (inc mixed people).
      Oh and also...East Africans, Somalians, Eritreans, Ethiopians etc are Black. Not watery black, not blackish, not light black, Black. Not even up for debate. We all have various cultural and ethnic identities, never the less they are black people from Africa...dunno how that's up for debate.
      Love you two's energy, love you both, thank you for the vid Tia, we love ya!
