I drove the beach in 1973 and 1974. I drove straight through from Maryland and got there dead tired. I parked on the beach at low tide and went to my room and crashed. Riding the glass elevator down later that afternoon it dawned on me that the beach had disappeared and realised my truck must be under water! Panicked I found my truck above the water line. Apparently it happens so often the city keeps towtrucks on patrol to drag vehicle away from the incoming tide. I was so relieved!
@@s0nnyburnett yeah, I didn't see the procedure but the truck was locked with the trans in first gear and the parking brake set. They just hooked it and dragged it away from the water! No note, no bill, no nothing!
In case anyone is wondering. That Archway building seen at 0:30 is still there; It's the actually the stage to an amphitheater. I moved here later in life and never knew it was *that* old.
My Dad raced his Rambler Marlin on Daytona beach back about 1969/70 when he was there taking a LP gas service man course. last time I was there it was nothing like it was back in them days.

Absolutely unheard of today, and even if they did do it you'd pay out the ass for it.

I drove on this beach in 2000. Was quite a fun experience.
What's the name of the beach
@@vickey2454 Daytona and it was $5 for the day after I went to the nascar track for a ride along 2004.

I lived in Daytona from 81 to 86. Met my future wife their. Those were great times.

Short but sweet
Interesting! A beach where cars drive instead of people sunbathe and swim. Why was that? Anyone?
False dichotomy. A beach where cars drive, AND where people sunbathe. (People don't swim on the beach.)
America.
I don’t get it either. Instead of enjoying the sun and the wind and the water people stay in their stuffy cars. Why??
@@tsaszymborska7389 Freedom
@@tsaszymborska7389 I went with a hired soft top and pulled after a beer on the beach, 14 miles of it then.

Was this video supposed to have sound?
Many home cameras didn't have audio, like movie cameras, the audio would have been recorded separately - if at all.
