Leonid Sarafanov - His physical instrument for dancing is perfect. Dimensionless stretching, femininely graceful lines of legs, the lightest, "shooting" upward jump, brilliant coordination, technique that does not know breakdowns - this is the ideal of a dancer of the new century. He jumps two heads higher than his partner. The brilliance of Sarafanov's dance arias dazzles. He is a ballet jeweler, the master of solo dance, who has no equal neither in the height of the jump, nor in the clarity of the antrash, nor in the surprisingly fast rotations. The dancer intuitively feels how to present one and the same plastic phrase in different ways, how to color seemingly completely identical movements, add softness or, conversely, sharpen, extend an effective dance passage. In countless double air tours. The slight growth gave precedent at the Mariinsky Theater to call him - Little Prince of the Mariinsky Theater. This speaks of the great love of the audience and the troupe for him.
Thsnk you so much for posting this and especially for your wonderful explanation of what steps we’re seeing and how they’re executed and the degree of difficulty. Thank you again.
I have no technical knowledge of ballet but the first time I saw this video, which was in 2009, I knew instinctively that I was privileged to witness true greatness.
Kent, being a more or less newbie to ballet your analysis, expertise and insight take me to a whole different level. And i am greatful for that. Now I will check out all of your videos.
I nearly didn’t want to watch this because, as you said here, this Don Q sequence is ubiquitous and I’m heartily tired of the music, not the dancing. In fact, if I watch a new pair, I’ll mute the music. I clicked on this immediately after having watched Sarafanov complete 39 entrechat six from “Giselle.” What else, lol?!? I was stunned that he did so many, with such elegance, and equally stunned the he didn’t need to windmill his arms to help him leap until the very end….he is so slight, without the bulging thigh muscles of Ivan Vasiliev, but his must be made of steel! I’ll add the link in case others read this and wish to see it; I’m sure you already have! ruclips.net/video/yVnT0WdxAhU/видео.html

Sarafanov was outstanding, stunning technique and interpretation😮

Love, love, love your videos!!! Your comments are so insightful!!!
Thanks for tuning in!
I agree this is the best Don Quixote I've seen so far, I've seen many from many different companies

Leonid has the technique, strength and elegance of a great dancer, really one of my very favorite dancers.
Браво!
Baryshnikov will always be my favorite.
When i see the pictures Baryshnikov seems dryer than Sarafanov, his grace is fantastic with the choice of the mist difficult sequences!!😮😮😮😮😮
Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for sharing.

This analysis is exactly the kind of ballet video I was looking for.
Thank you❤

Leonid and Olesya are my favourite ballet dancers. It is so pity that he left Mariinsky theater for Mikhailovsky.
WONDERFUL AND CUTE DANCER !!!!
Magnificent
Una tecnica superlativa , una leggerezza senza eguali, un fisico perfetto con interpretazione incredibile.... Cosa si può pretendere di più?
My favorite is Osiel the Great of course
Novikova also breathtaking 😮
