  • I find out whether we can use and store the EcoFlow Wave 2 portable air conditioning unit in our motorhome. I look for and test for the best location for storing while driving and when it is in use. You might be surprised with the results.

    I just received mine today. I put it to use straight away. I was surprised that it filled with water in about an hour and shut the compressor off. I drained it and mounted it correctly. No more issues. Then i decided to mount the unit so the heat side is outside the rv. It generates lots of heat even with the hose i could feel the heat leaking from the unit body. It works much better now

    We have a upright air con unit and it sits under the table during travel and when we use it we pull it out away from the wall - i bought a piece of perspex and cut a 5" hole in it for the hose to connect to, the perspex was cut to the same size as the window which is about 24" square, velcro to the frame and jobs a good en, it all depends on how much space you have a suppose, when we are in France/Spain or anywhere in europe when its hot the thing is a god send

    Good to see an honest review that shows just how impractical this is in a smaller motorhome

  • @mickey1299
    @mickey1299 Год назад +1

    Gonna be honest here , i probably wouldn't bother . I've got a 584 , and frankly though i would be able to find the space , as i'm often only one up , the con's would appear to outweigh the pros . I would suspect the battery would only last a short time before needing a charge , meaning electric would be needed . I would have the same issues with the intakes , though i can think of one way of venting it through my under settee locker . It's accessible from the outside . But probably the biggest con would be , that even if this did cool the van effectively , you would melt the second you step out the door . That's the reason i never use air con in the trucks i drive .
    Try this Ads , keep the windscreen blinds closed , but open all the windows , even the cab window . Leave the fly screens up , but cover the tops of the windows with a towel , or something similar like the awning . Open all the skylights fully , but do close the flyscreens , for some reason this does cut the sun glare , and so helps cool the van . And lastly open both doors .
    I did this a couple of years back , and the van stayed remarkably cool inside .
    I'm planning a trip to southern Spain next year (the reason i've been knocking three barrels out of the van , recently) , so i added a rather large cooling fan into the main skylight . I've arranged the power lead above the flyscreen , so that will still close , despite the fan being removable , and i've also added three smaller cooling fans around the interior . One on the dashboard , one over the sink on the back wall (this one is removable) , and the last under the upper side lockers on the nearside pretty much over the nearside window .
    I just work with the heat , but i notice you've already found the biggest help , a tilly hat . If i can find one , i may invest in a sombrero . I don't care , but i think you already know that from my last post .
    What can i say mate , i'm a trucker ! ! !

      Spray the tops of skylights with white plastikote. Cuts the sun and you could peel it off for winter.

    Its massive and how long is the run time off grid? Its very expensive for what it is. If your in constant hot weather maybe its useful, but 3 weeks a year mmm not so sure. I am just going to a panel van and wondering how to keep my air fryer lol so this wont be on my list of items to buy. Good vlog though. You can get window sealers cheap of amazon to seal the windows, they just stick on with Velcrow.

    I've been interested in seeing how practical this would be. Nice review showing some of the problems that you may encounter. It's an interesting idea and I am sure that in some cases it could be useful but I doubt that many people would find this practical. Unless maybe something was built with this in mind. Having its own battery could be useful in that case as it could charge while driving or solar I'm guessing.

    A big bit of kit and not suitable for all Motorhomes, we are lucky as in our Caravan we have just had the Truma Aventa Comfort fitted which is Roof mounted but you do have to sacrifice a sky light. For us is not a sacrifice as we have a few sky lights and a huge front window which lets the light flood in. I think Air Con units will become more and more popular especially if we are to get hotter summers as they are predicting and if you go abroad with your Motorhome or Caravan they i think are must after all you are basically living in a tin can that gets incredibly hot. very interesting blog

    Looks a great bit of kit but I’d struggle to find storage and usage space (our van is smaller than Herman) I’d also struggle to keep it charged unless I was on a site with EHU - nice thought though!!!

    I think the hoses are the main problem as they make it less portable. It is a shame that the unit needs them to function. I will not be rushing out to buy one and stick with my tried and tested method of a small fan with an ice pack in front of it. Take care Gill

      If you’re sitting outside in a chair at a ballgame or at a picnic table or just outside. The hoses aren’t needed.
      It’s only needed if you’re inside a space. At the very least. Just 1 hose to exhaust hot air.
      Theirs no AC that will ever exist that will require 0 hoses. It’s not possible due to how they work.
      Inside air passes over a coil. An absorbs the heat in the air going over it. Being it absorbed the heat. The air that blows out is cold.
      But that Freon still has to go to the condenser side of the unit and expel the heat it removed from the inside air and be compressed and cooled some. As it’s doing that.
      It’s blowing the heat it absorbed from the inside air. Blowing it to the outside.
      It’s the nature of any AC. Theirs just no way around that. That’s the reason central air units that the fan outside. An mini splits have the fan outside.
      An other indoor home roll around AC units like this one have a hose. It has to get rid of that hot air.
      A you’re not gonna be moving around a mini split or a central air unit.
      You can move around a roll around unit. But it’s bigger. It’s heavier and large. An still has a hose or two needs to exhaust.
      Also uses AC only. An has larger power draw.
      As far as portability these definitely are. If out using it outside you don’t need any hoses. Or even a power cord if you’re running it in the battery.
      But if you need it inside. It don’t take much effort to more easily pick they one up carry a position that one where needed. An connect a single hose.

    I want to inquire about the replaceability of fuses in Wave 2. When I switched it on using the wall plug, I heard a loud "pop" sound from the unit. There was no smoke or smell coming from it,
    Since I purchased the unit overseas, I'm unsure if the warranty still covers it.

      It sounds like you need to contact the EcoFlow support, @williamdthomas9968 to see if you can claim your warranty.

    Good review, Ads. The idea of a battery operated AC unit is great, but the form factor of the unit is not very well thought through. It is hard to imagine what the originally intended place looks like. 🤔 A glamping tent, maybe?

  • @arndale1957

    One of the issues with all ac in a motorhome is when you are somewhere you need it (ie abroad) the electricity supply will probably probably be inadequate or very expensive with a lot of sites metering usage. I did see a small tower unit which is suitable for up to 18m² (7000btu) which uses 780w or roughly 3.5amps. The hoses are an issue regarding security at night, bugs, air leakage etc. I wonder if an adaptor could be made to make the cold air go into an outlet from the truma and use the existing system to circulate the van?

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  Год назад

      It has a battery which can be charged using a solar panel, @arndale1957

    When it comes to talking about portability, I gotta say, Mark 2 is hands down more portable than Wave 2! I can easily pick up Mark 2 with just one hand and place it wherever I want. It's a total breeze!

    • @HermanHitstheRoad
      @HermanHitstheRoad  Год назад

      Are you referring to the Zero Breeze, Quinton? It certainly looks more portable but it won't last as long on its battery and the wave 2 is also a heater
