After all these years, it's still one of best written comedies of all time.

@@Donaldducc12345 For me it's nowhere near the best, Fawlty Towers is.
Manuel was an unfunny racist stereotype that would never be allowed now.
_"I learn, I learn...I GET BETTER!!"_ 🤣🤣🤣
Damn, Manuel we love you!!
Manuel learn from a book. Hello! Good morning, Sir! How are you today, Sir?
‘Your horse nitwit’ is a brilliantly underrated moment of the show.

If i'm ever feeling remotely down i play this - it has made me chuckle out loud for probably the last 35 years - absolute comedy gold - wonderful stuff!!!
Me too 😃watching it right when I feel down Manuel and Basil they make me laugh and laugh. RIP Manuel we miss your
On my deathbed (likely soon) I want to watch the kipper corpse episode
@@lewdogzombies i would but I think we're just out of Waldorfs.
Best comedy series I've I've seen . Love it 😂😂
I literally watch this once a day haha
I always LOVED Manuel. He was my absolutely favorite character.
Manuel was an unfunny racist stereotype that would never be allowed now.
Haha hahahaha doesn't matter how many times you see it this is hilarious, how basil never had a heart attack is a miracle lol!!
😂😂😂🤣🤣
@@susannas.9582 He legitimately got unwell making this. The stress of so amazingly playing such intense mundane unecessary stress gave him a low level form of angina
Ahhh, because he wrote it, wouldn't be much fun if he goes off the show
EFamz
At the end of the final episode (Basil the Rat) Basil collapses and Manuel hauls him out of the room by his heels... maybe he did have a heart attack after all.
Each character played perfectly.....
The show would not be the same, not even close with the change/loss of any one of the 4 main characters. They played off each other with perfection.
"Heven-chuwalee..."
We say that all the time in our house. lol
A total masterpiece. This standard will surely never be reached again.
There's ONE thing that the Brits have excelled in, par excellence, that is, comedy. Forget the rolls royce, the routemaster bus, fish n chips, it's comedy that I think that the Brits have excelled at.
Especially in the 1960s 1970s and 1980s, numerous classic series were made then
@@Keithbarber Very true. There were talented writers back then, not just talented writers but talented comedy writers which is more difficult because it has to please the audience. Laughter is the best medicine. We should all indulge in it as much as possible otherwise the world will become a dark place to live in. Encourage creativity and generate laughter are my wishes.
@@Keithbarber and 1990s
@@AndRewUK24 I dont deny the 1990s produced some good comedy, but the 70s and 80s saw my favourites written and broadcast

Andrew Sachs was incredible.
I am from Barthelona
That's correct Spanish of Spain (pronunciation).

This is the best sketch of the series. Hands down. I crack up every time
That's what I always think. Until I see the next sketch. There are dozens of brilliant sketches in this series.

I remember I watched this show on repeat since I was a kid now I’m 19 and I still love it 😂😂! I know nothing!

Please please understand before one of us dies, Brilliant comedy show 🤣
Haha best scene!!
Even by the standards of FT this is brilliant- and after all these years I've come to the conclusion this episode is the best in British comedy history
My thoughts exactly.
2:34 is my favourite part for some reason, the way he shakes his head and smiles with his finger saying no.
One of the best scenes in any show, ever!
😑Basil “Please, please try to understand before one of us dies!”
One of my favourite lines EVER ☝️🤣
This never gets old.
Pure comedy gold....Priceless.
coming up with the script is already genius enough, acting it out this perfectly, OH MY!!!!!
🧡 Watched this hundreds of times over the past 40 years and *still* cracks me up every time.
Great that the elder generation can watch all their old favourites . THANK YOU .
What is witnit?
Still as good as the day it was first performed by Andrew Sachs. He was a brilliant actor and perfectly cast. Such a humble man as well. These two scenes always make me laugh. Manuel gets one up on Basil. Great script.
Fun fact:
He was german... not spanish.
@@ruicorreia7882 True, but the English think the Spanish are stupid, not the Germans. So acting like a German would not have worked.
Sublime comedy, mayhem and madness! Just like real life!!! 😂
How they got the characters so beautifully in tune with each other in so few episodes is a testament to Cleeses genius...This level of comedy gold will never be surpassed....It's non stop every episode....🤔😳😀🇬🇧
Fawlty Towers works so well, I think, because the comedy is strongly character-based, and the characters themselves are so well-defined that they feel almost real and the actors play each to perfection (from the relatively understated Polly to the exaggerated Manuel and Basil). You don't have scenes where a character says something against what their character would say just because it helps the scriptwriter out of a hole or for a cheap laugh, the characters react at all times in-character to each situation that they face. The best sitcoms all have this, but Fawlty Towers possibly has it the most because Cleese and Booth put all their effort into writing only 12 exceptional scripts, filled with realistic hotel-based and relationship-based incident. I think I read that Cleese (mostly) wrote the situations and Booth (mostly) the dialogue, and they then honed each script to perfection together. No doubt, the contributions of Andrew Sachs and Prunella Scales at rehearsal stage will have added even more polish and ideas. The casting was also exceptionally good for the supporting roles, using many fine and reliable character actors like Bernard Cribbins and Joan Sanderson in very distinctive roles... Actually, I must get the DVD set out again for another watch! :-)

I love Fawlty Towers so much. It makes me laugh more than any other comedy I have ever seen. I wish that someone, somewhere, could write something equally brilliant. Everything about it is exceptional.
Loved this excellent comedy
I barely breathe at 1:35...Fawlty's face!
OMG ill never get sick of watching this, it's hilarious I love faulty towers
Fabulous actor!
My all time favourite episode...so brilliant...and the diatribe Basil comes out with when he takes Mrs Richards to her room, about the view and the bathtub...hahaaaa😂😂😂
probably the scene of all time
GREATEST. COMEDY. SHOW. THERE. EVER. WAS. AND. THAT. THERE. EVER. WILL. BE.
Thanks for reading.
Fawlty Towers is unbeatable. Genius from A-Z.
Mind your language doesn't come close?
Brilliant show even 👏👏👏
I feel like crap. Watching this makes me so happy
Truly the gold standard of British comedy. I've yet to find any other Britcom that measures up, even after almost 50 years.
It's racist filth.
I agree. In modern times I think the Inbetweeners is the nearest thing, albeit it's crude.
"Please please try to understand before one of us dies...." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This must be the highlight of the entire series. Totally brilliant...thank you Andrew Sachs🌹🌹🌹Love, love ❤️
*_"What is Whitnit?"_* 😂🤣😅😁😄
Only 12 episodes were ever made of Fawlty Towers. Each were only half hour long. And yet, this classic series is rightly established in the pantheon of comedy haven.
People watched any unfunny crap when there were only 3 channels.
TV is completely obsolete now, like printed news.

The racist stereotype Manuel would never be allowed now.
@@penmuni3833 Quite right. I think there's enough material there for an entire conference.
A pair of the greatest comic scenes in history
All these years i have been saying i know nothing in an accent and never thought anything about it. Just heard people say it over the years and now i know where it comes from ha ha
Once you've heard Manuel say it this way you can't say it any other way! I do the same with 'Eventually' too!
Thank you for posting this, Acting at its best! Soooo good!!!
Absolutely outstanding!
Autumn 1979 if I am correct.
Series 2.I remember watching some of the second series as a young boy 😊
Manuel getting one up on Basil for a change always makes me laugh
Manuel: I am from Barcelona
the only part where manuel actually realizes where he's from. I've never heard him say where he's from in any episode
Love the scenes with Manuel, they are delightful. The one with the basket and corspe is terrific too!
The best scene ever! 💕
This is pure gold!!
😂😂😂 Fawlty Tower, one of the best comedy.
Ah your horse it win, It WIN!
The conversation between Basil and Manuel is particularly brilliant even for this show. Especially the bit where Basil pleads with Manuel to "please try to understand before one of us dies..!" I'm ashamed to say that I've used the line a couple of times since when explaining fairly simple concepts to friends. Luckily, I've chosen good friends who knew the line well enough not to take offence. 😂
And Basil's gestures and facial expressions in that scene. Priceless...
Eventually!!! Brilliant!!😘
It's a different experience watching these episodes and various clips if one is already an admirer of John Cleese. I'm so predisposed so every frame of every episode of Fawlty Towers is precious to me.
Quiet English desperation. Brilliant!
This is so hilarious and frustrating at the same time. Hahaha
This clip of Basil trying to get Manuel to understand his instructions about not saying anything to anyone about the horse that Basil put a bet on and won, simply has to be one of, the most hilarious comedy scenes ever, and becomes even more funny when Manuel, following his instructions, later on in the programme says “I know nothing” and does not understand that he CAN now mention the horse and tell Mrs. Richards that Basil had the money the previous day! If this clip does not make anyone’s ribs ache with hysterical laughter, then I shall never know what will!
Ooooohhhh… I get it now.
Manuel was practicing that line... 😂
Possibly the gem in all the episodes.
Genius
never gets old
My favourite scene
Manuel is the best in the series :)
I know how basil feels. I used to deal with customers like Manuel on a daily basis. Didn’t speak English explaining the same thing over and over and over.
It's amazing how people suddenly understand when they realize they won't get anything by pretending they don't understand lol
There's nothing better than faulty towers. Very funny all the time after all these years.
