And Geoffrey Palmer has been in dozens of films and TV programmes way beyond the 70s (Butterflies, As Time Goes By).
I am French I saw Fawlty Towers while working in Aberdeen back then in 1974/5. I only get 90 % of the dialogues but still , this is the best television serial in the world ! I cannot stop watching it again an again .
My dad recorded every episode on vhs and watched it everday when i came back from school in the 90s. Literally one of the greatest comedies of all time

Classic British comedy, love it, wish they still made this program.
I've seen this episode quite a fair bit and I've only just noticed Manuel and the Sausages at the beginning of the video lmao. Still finding new things to laugh at with this show so many years later.
Sausages were probably 2 months over the expiration date too, so it is good thing Manuel ruined them. And there were 2 dead pigeons in water tank, so I doubt very much that Fawlty Towers tea and soup tasted very good . And of course wine was corked and Manuel pet rat was running around and they did not know which meat loaf was contaminated with rat poison, so they took just one wild guess after another, collected all meat from the floor ( little bit of floor dirt on meat is not the deal braker ) and still tried to cook them and sell to customers .
No wonder they had dead hotel guest, wonder is that rest of bunch survived to see another day

I've seen this probably a hundred times and only just now noticed that Basil's attempt to toss a kipper out the window at 2:01 fails miserably - if you watch the bottom left (maybe at 0.25 speed) you can see a kipper bounce off the closed window (i.e., it slammed shut before the kipper went outside). It's the perfect setup for Dr. Price's "what's that?" at 2:06 🤣
