    Sometimes I wonder if you should setup some smaller tanks like 40 gallon tanks or around that size and use them for situations like this, could keep them together in one till your able to fix whatever is wrong easier

      @Fish-Story  4 месяца назад +2

      The cost to benefit ratio would be unfavorable, I think. I don't know what's wrong but it's stress-free from tank mates and enjoys a very large tank for its size. Tank size should always be a plus.

    The red and white lips immediately brings to mind duck lips columnaris, I hope it's not that:(
    You may remember learning from Duanes on Monster Fish Keepers about this disease.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 месяца назад +1

      You have a phenomenal attention to detail and retention. The duck lips symptom affects the whole lips inside and out and goes along with much swelling, which we don't see here, not yet at least.

    Poor smaller brother cod, he wants to eat, but seems unable it’s sad when you’ve tried everything and nothing works. I feel like I’ve let them down. My fingers are crossed for young cod :(

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 месяца назад

      I've not tried anything because I hadn't even a remote idea of what might be wrong with it. Sometimes there are no symptoms at all except the fasting, as was this case, even though the fish showed a weak willingness to feed.

      This is a freshwater Murray river cod. The vendor says the cod are from a Taiwan farmer, highly educated and experienced. The farmer says 12-30C = 54-86F is good for them.

    It's almost like he's got something stuck in his throat but gasping, mouth opened for no reason is strange.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 месяца назад +2

      You know what? This makes a lot of sense. I probably need to bite the bullet, net it and peek inside the throat/mouth. Maybe the cod tried to swallow a piece of finger mullet too big or spiny and it got lodged in the throat? Even though I cut off the mullet spines before feeding them, maybe I missed, or maybe it's a bone? Love YT and peers like you! Thank you!

      Would not you think in 1 month it should have dislodged or dissolved or something else?

    • @cascadeghost2814
      @cascadeghost2814 4 месяца назад +2

      @Fish-Story if its not near the stomach acid no. A bone could stay lodged indefinitely. He seems interested in food which indicates his stomach is ok. Im not an expert but the heavy breathing is weird. I've only seen that in stressed fish ( or low O2 water which you don't have) not sick. If i had something stuck in my mouth id be stressed. Just like giving a dog a bone, its amazing how much trouble they can get it. You do some excellent work, keep it up! If anything i say helps 🤞 you're very welcome!

      @@Fish-Story I know but the day before I went to buy it the guy got his pec fin caught in mesh so he would not sell that day the next morning I rang to see how it was and the guy at the store said it cum off its self in the night so I went and got him but now I'm wondering if his Jaws was damaged due to that him rubbing that mesh off the jaw got a black round mark on the bugger side its not massively bigger but it's bigger than the left.pls reply Vic im hoping the side will go down he's starving I've tried salmon etc he tries to pick it up but then drops it

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 месяца назад

      I cannot imagine the net piece to have anything to do with the gulper's mouth. The mouth is probably quite functional. The fish may be stressed and hence hasn't gotten its proper appetite yet. If your water were inhospitable to the gulper, it would not help. The many prior losses seem to point that your water might be unsuitable to these fish. They do poorly in hard water, even medium hard, and high pH water.

    Maybe it's infested with parasites.

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 месяца назад

      They would have to be microparasites. It is always possible but would require either mine own microscopy work or sending the fish to a pathology lab.

    i want to own a bunch of exotic shit like this but idk how you get permits for stuff like this and even import some of these it’s stupid that the government doesn’t let you own certain things they should make it where if you prove you can own it and pay enough then you can own it

    • @Fish-Story
      @Fish-Story  4 месяца назад

      I'd agree with you on the regulated fish. 99% of our fish are not regulated and need no permits. We don't import. There are importer-vendors that do.

      i’m confused is this sarcasm cause im saying you should be able to have permits that regulate things but not have anything restricted or illegal just have to prove you can own it and pay a large fee i just don’t know how you get the permits for the stuff that is legal and how you are able to get fish imported like that to own also a little more elaboration on what you said im still confused i kinda got it now lmao 😂

      i’m confused is this sarcasm
      * No sarcasm. I am trying to answer your post as best as I can understand your post.
      cause im saying you should be able to have permits that regulate things but not have anything restricted or illegal
      * I assume instead of “restricted or illegal” you mean impermissible, because once you have a permit system, it's a restriction or call it a regulation and possessing a fish, which needs a permit, without a permit makes the possession illegal.
      just have to prove you can own it and pay a large fee
      *As stated, I’d agree with this system. The fee shouldn’t be so large that only the richest 10% could afford it, but 90% should be able to afford it.
      i just don’t know how you get the permits for the stuff that is legal
      *You shouldn’t need permits for legal fish, that’s the idea of legal (non-regulated) fish, no?
      and how you are able to get fish imported like that to own
      *We don’t import. Importers have to have their own fish species permits or provide a permit for the concrete person they are importing for.
      also a little more elaboration on what you said im still confused i kinda got it now lmao 😂
      *I am trying 😊
