  • "La Campana di San Giusto" ("The Bell of San Giusto") is a patriotic piece of music written by Giovanni Drovetti and set to music by Colombino Arona in 1915. It was very popular during the First World War.
The passage refers to one of the bells of the cathedral of San Giusto, which is located on the top of the homonymous hill overlooking Trieste. This religious building was particularly dear to the Italian irredentists during the First World War. In fact, Italy took part in this conflict to complete national unity with the annexation of Trentino-Alto Adige and Venezia Giulia.
"La Campana di San Giusto", which was composed in 1915 in Turin, was very popular during the First World War and reached its peak of popularity on November 5, 1918, or two days after the armistice of Villa Giusti, with which the The Austro-Hungarian Empire surrendered to Italy, allowing the troops of the Royal Army, on the aforementioned date, to victoriously enter Trento and Trieste.
