Hey all! I just posted a video specifically showing how I sit and prop myself & art supplies up for drawing. Hope it helps you out! ruclips.net/video/DSpyhKA-ReE/видео.html
Glad it was helpful! I get it. I also recommend these posture steps, as when I use them, they help me: ruclips.net/video/DSpyhKA-ReE/видео.html Hope you can manage to keep painting!
I really appreciate the recommendation! Definitely plan on purchasing the book. Being a young artist with scoliosis, I want to preserve my back for as long as I'm able! Great video and thanks so much.
Back problems are the worst- I feel your pain! I hope this one helps you as much as it helped me and this one might really help, too, this book changed my sitting life entirely! ruclips.net/video/iyhT_bbwwME/видео.html
You're so welcome. Posture really should be taught with any art form, it is a shame we are all having to learn by first being in pain! I hope you feel better with some adjustments. This additional video I created gives you some other ideas for how to set yourself up: ruclips.net/video/DSpyhKA-ReE/видео.html
Thank you so much for this video!!! it’s such a barrier to a creative practice when you have back pain from doing a lot of fine detail. Just this week I refrained from working on a piece due to back pain from hunching over drawing and painting for so many hours. I am going to buy this book!
I feel the same pain, I get it! You might also try this book: ruclips.net/video/_sK-XXqp6u0/видео.html and here is my posture video: ruclips.net/video/DSpyhKA-ReE/видео.html I hope you can get back to creating soon!
Finding your video all these years later! Thank you very much for all the helpful tips. I wonder if you might point me to where I could purchase such an incredible lifted drawing surface device for my desk as you are using to draw with?
Yes! I have a few other videos on posture for the artist and there are video reviews on my channel for both table easels I use. Here is just one link but if you go to my channel and search stretches and posture for the artist and table easels you’ll find them all: Posture for the Artist, Part 2: How I Sit While Drawing ruclips.net/video/DSpyhKA-ReE/видео.html
I have the book. Given to me. Even though my main back issue is an exposed screw coming out of a L4 vertebral bone that should have not, and now my age (I guess) factors in and they say the trauma of going back in to trim it off could not be worth it, for the upper back pain from sitting I highly recommend rear pull downs at the gym. (pull ups with the bar going toward the back of the neck but using weights and pulleys instead) This toning of the upper back will work wonders and puts no stress on discs. Keep the reps up, say, 5 sets of 15 or 20.
I have a video planned with exercises for posture for artists! Sounds like you have a bum deal with back pain, too, but you’ve figured out a way to manage as well as you can👍🏼
So what's your sitting position after the learning? :O I"m also a overarching artist over an ipad pro or cintiq and i find myself looming over hunched. You showed how you sat wrong, but not how you sat corrected now.. Any updates?
You're right! I'll have to rearrange the studio where I shoot to show how I DO SIT, but I'll do that the next time I shoot videos - in May. Thanks for the feedback, it helps me to see the gaps in the info I'm sharing on videos.
Of course. Content creators should critique each other! XO It's actually the information I totally need. I've been hunching over for over 20 years and I'm trying to find a way to still draw on a pad or a cintiq tablet without destroying my back at this point in while I'm still young(ish).
@@Lzmstudio the vid genuinely spoke to me and helped so much, thought I was the only artist with such annoying back pain. Seriously, thanks a million ❤️
@@jxhto you might watch my other two videos on this topic: how I sit while drawing ruclips.net/video/DSpyhKA-ReE/видео.html and Stretches & Exercises for the Artist’s Posture ruclips.net/video/-GtbxgjNDoo/видео.html
My worst habit is completely leaning into my drawing and rounding my back and I get so lost in the drawing that I forget about my posture. Then hours lately my back is hurting so bad lol.
We've all done that, countless times! Why I also made this video, ruclips.net/video/DSpyhKA-ReE/видео.html - so hopefully you won't be worse off after years of this, like I was!
I envy you, when im drawing I think a lot, and usually bad things. Now that we have this terrible thing going on with Usa\Japan\NK its even worse. But anyway, ~1 hour of drawing is making my left shoulder scream, my table is too high and I need the keyboard, so I usually sit in terrible positions to use both the wacom and the keyboard.. No idea what to do. I think I'll have to buy a new table.. Oh, btw, I also enjoy making details when I'm using paper and I wonder if a magnifying glass could help us to stop touching the paper with our noses? lol
I hear you about the aggressive politics of our world troubling you. Don't get me started on my country's misguided issues! Advice for not letting this bother you when you're drawing: think of drawing like a meditation practice. My meditation teacher reminds me to be like the vast sky- let thoughts float by as if they were clouds- the sky doesn't grasp onto them - it just allows them to pop up and move along. So tell those fears to move along! And yes, it definitely sounds like your table is too high for drawing, or your chair is too short. Your shoulder height should remain neutral, not raised. If your chair is in the correct spot, your forearm, when bent at the elbow in an L position, should be level with the height of the table. This allows you to bend at the waist to lean over and keeps your shoulder from raising up towards your ears. My problems were solved when I got a chair that could raise/lower so my shortness was at the right height to the table. I have used a magnifyer sheet, but I still lean over... only solution might be to start using an easel or drafting table, but those give rise to other problems so I haven't switched! Ah, well, it's a good problem to have, could be worse!
Hey , I have heard that there are few people who have a buldge in the middle finger . And those hands are meant to be of a great artist.... Is it true . Pls answer my question 🙏
Well, I've never heard of this, so I can't tell you if it is true or not? I think being a great artist is more about the time you spend practicing your craft & your determination than anything else!
safi456 despite your harsh delivery, I hear that you wished for something else in the video. Please consider that I am only an expert in drawing. I am not a doctor, nor am I trained in the Gokhale Method - so I am not trained or authorized to teach the material in the book and there are legal and ethical liabilities if I were to attempt to teach the content without permission or if I taught the information incorrectly due to my lack of training.

Gotta say, you are extremeley attractive. Thank you for the advice too!
Lorne Malvo *blush* thank you!
Useless video. You just went on about the book without actually demonstrating the posture that you now adopt while drawing.
