    Don't mind negative comments..
    You're doing great with Lordy..
You've saved him from a cage.
The shelter are doing their best but that's all they can provide at the moment.
Let those criticising you donate instead to the shelter so they can build and provide better than a cage for those dogs there not so fortunate as to be fostered like Lordy..
Lordy is living a great life with you.

Is there any prospect of the animal rescue organisation you assist being able to find a better location ? Oh yes, I loved your rant, rescue animals are often unpredictable, it takes a while to understand them and the animal to get used to the new carer/owner.

What you have given this dog is 100 times better than the quality of life he had before. Dogs are easy to please... they just want to be feed, walked, loved, and feel secure. Don't let the "Karens" get you down! Also, I bought a small "Blink" camera that I keep in the house so I can check in on the dogs when I'm out of the house to make sure they are ok, you might want to get one to watch Lordy when you're out.

THIS is my fur-ever home!"

So, we gave him his own plastic cup with water and put it by his water bowl and he would drink from both. LOL! Lordy looks so comfortable on the sofa. He is a beautiful dog. I like that he is calm not excitable and doesn't jump up on people.

Lordy has settled in now and looks a lot happier. I am a big dog owner. I have an Old English Sheepdog male called Benjamin and before that a weimaraner male. Very different dogs but such good companions. My weimaraner was a velcro dog and liked to be with us all the time, including on our bed. Benjamin prefers to sleep where he can see the front and back door so he can guard us. You adapt to make your dog happy and they are all different. Yes I have had two rescue dogs. A rottweiler cross and a dalmatian. The dalmatian was nuts but loving. The rottweiler was just so happy to have a routine and regular meal times. You are a kind man and I hope you can find a way to keep him in your life. Wendy

Johnny, .... you know how everyone turns out to be a football coach when there's a tournament. I'm surprised you have had recieved so many mean comments correcting you. You are 100% right. Dog needs boundaries especially when they are introduced into a new environment (they feel safer this way). My dog, Tommy was adopted from SPCA. I don't have a balcony and he settled down in a corner up until now in the living room. He set his own boundaries. Its been 5 years already and he has never wanted to go into the bedrooms because he is extremely comfortable in his own zone (living room and kitchen). Don't need to explain so much but I understand your rant. I hope those who commented without thinking first should read and learn more about dealing and caring for dogs , especially matured sheltered dogs when they had many baggages and who knows what kind of shit they have endured before. Your method on the 1st day (except for not bringing Lordy directly from carpark to home straight) was absolutely the right way! And you were quick to realise its probably better to bring him straight home once arrived to settle down. Which means... you have the intuitive to be a good dog papa.

  • @seekingpeace
    @seekingpeace Месяц назад +3

You've done just fine, and for what it's worth, I know when you bring a dog into a new environment, the smaller space helps them gain a sense security. -- security/belonging while they are getting used to new smells and sounds. It also keeps them and your abode safe. Being the "alpha" is imperative -- allowing the dog to not be "on guard" all of time because someone else is "driving the bus"charge, lowering their stress levels, which is the point of fostering. I don't allow my dogs on the furniture for quite some time, and when I finally do, they fully understand that it's ONLY when I call them up. I find a spot in the house that offers quiet and place their bed there -- sometimes it's on the floor by my bed, or in another room that's quiet. They can lie on the floor while I'm watching tv or on the couch reading. You are in no way mistreating your boy. Fostering a grown dog is far from adopting a puppy. Head on. What works for you and Lord is what works. End of discussion!

Thank you for saving a rescue pup! He looks happy.
I have two rescue huskies and a cat living in a condo and they are living their best lives. The reason being, I take them (the dogs) on walks, go to the dog park so they can socialize, and even take them on runs. I'm confident my dogs get to run more than the average dog living in a house in the suburbs with a back yard.
And yes! You have to create those boundaries and rules for your new boy. You are in charge. He will love you even if you don't let him sleep in your bed.
    - If you can safely, give him a perch so he can look our the balcony windows. He will likely spend hours just looking at what's going on.
    - Also, set him up for success. Don't leave out food scrapes, or your favorite pair of shoes. Provide toys so he knows what is acceptable behavior. 100% he will slip up but don't let it become a habit.
    You are doing things right.

Johnny, I'm smiling because what's making you a great dogfather to Lordy, is everything -your- you're recording is about him.
You've got his mental wellbeing at heart. His greeting tells us all how much he's come to love you and respect you in such a short space of time. By the way, previously confined space penned rescue animals here, the shelters always say gradual introduction to the changed larger free area of rooms, actually helps them to pace themselves and get used to what the new environment around them is like... but from a familiarly safe place.
    Otherwise they might get overwhelmed.
Lordy looks more relaxed now than he did in his first few days. He's earnt that beautiful companionship he's found in you, Johnny 💕

Wolves live in packs. Gotta give them company and treat them like family to get respect. You boppin the dog shows you're the alpha. Reward good behavior, punish bad. I adopted my dog from the SF SPCA in your hometown. They suggested crate training, but couldn't do it. (Black lab 8 weeks old) I do think you have to treat them like family, or at least a best friend, and that is a key component to train them. Like I said above though, you saved that dog from a life in a cage, all dog owners are different and thanks for giving a better life to Lordy than he previously had.

I miss the yellow Lab and the Rottie we had. Both slept with either my kids or myself.
I cried when I had to rehome them due to landlords.
    💙💙💙
Between Lordy, Masa and Hippo Ohhh Emm Gee!, I’d be in heaven.

    Lordy's sign language is admirable!☺️
When you came home from the restaurant,
he was really happy to see you again.
I hope you don't put Lord out of the inside again, because dogs don't understand these changes the same way we humans do.
All the best for you and Lord's summer!☀️🐾🦮🙌

I think you done good. I was thinking crate training but balcony gives him a space too. Honestly I wondered if it might even be too much from being in crate. Looks like he's doing good. I do suggest you r careful with furniture if you're planning on finding him another home just cuz people like my dad r totally against animals on furniture. Just make sure he knows ur alpha and will get off furniture if told , it'll make it easier transition later. I agree, mini dogs r totally different. Our husky pitt is 110 lbs, you HAVE to ensure boundaries w big dogs. I've had to punch a big pitt in the face to get them off me. Dogs are resilient, and they are smart and understand abuse vs. discipline. As long as u r trying to do whats best for him, you are being a good owner. I think you are doing well as a first timer and a full grown big dog as well. I struggle with ours, and I am a veteran pet owner and shelter worker. Every dog is different too. I and others can suggest stuff, but only you and lordy will be able to decide what works best in ur situation

Lordy is handling what he must interpret as craziness (his new owner speaks regularly to a little black box in his hand) with grace and acceptance. Such a beautiful and loving dog. Please show us how he is doing as often as possible. Thanks for your big heart‘

Johnney I am telling you this you are doing a awesome job. I have three and two of them are rescue dogs and yes your right you need to crate train before letting them loss. Don't let the negative peeps get you down. They don't buy the food and shelter for this beautiful baby. No one is ever ready to take the time and effort you are doing. One thing for sure you are doing Awesome. Also every dog has their own personality. Keep doing you awesome care on this beautiful baby.

I wasn't shocked about the outrage, the dog community is full of weird people and as you said Johnny most of the haters have little toy dogs that they spoiled so bad that they feel it's ok if little Pookie bites people on the ankles 😂😂😂 "it's cute" (psssst no it fucking isn't, control your dog) ...You are doing a great job being a first time dog owner/caregiver. Dogs love structure, otherwise they go nuts...as for "booping" I am expecting a ton of "what are you doing" comments by people that treat dogs as humans. You can't tell a dog "look, If you bite the cable it'll eventually kill you so don't do it" and expect them to understand. Alphas usually give a hard bite if a pack member is doing something wrong. That's their language, that's how you teach your dog to be safe without you...Lordy has been happy from day one with you, thank you for caring for the best doggo around 🤝

Hi Johnny as I responsable dog owner from a rescue I have to say you are doing great! Leaving a dog in a create and or balcony is totally fine and they prefer it. Couple of pointers dog that size is best to feed in the morning and go for a long walk and and again in the evening and a again a long walk. In any case whatever you do with this lovely dog it's 1000% better than the life he previously had so well done and keep up the great work!

You are 100% right. Furthermore, you are going to be a fabulous father. Respect for boundaries is a fundamental building block of life whether one is a dog or a person. Those of you with pets and kids who have no respect for boundaries, I'm gonna tell you now, nobody else likes your pets or your kids. We're just saying we do 'cause we're too polite to tell you the truth.
