i think maybe Mattel has gotten comfortable with all of the body swapping that collectors have been doing for the past seven years.
It seems more lucrative for them to produce fashionistas with antiquated articulation, decent-looking heads and cheap clothes along with MTM dolls with varied skin tones. It keeps people in a vicious purchasing cycle.
They seem to have mastered the art of giving the people just enough to keep them invested in/loyal to the company, but never enough to keep them satisfied.
There's always SOMETHING off. At least one thing.
i'm not fucking with Mattel like that anymore.

You nailed it, body swapping is a vicious purchasing cycle! One that I'm utterly fatigued from.
The availability of MTM dolls in my country is extremely limited. I just can't keep paying the online scalper prices $60-100 + for what is normally a $20 MTM doll just to bring my dolls up to a standard Mattel should be making all Barbie dolls in the first place.
If only all Barbies could be Looks Barbies 😿

@@barbiechopshop9538 I agree with you both. I've decided not to buy anymore playline Barbies. I will only buy another MTM if they make a MTM Barbie or Ken with an artificial limb or if they make a MTM slender or huskey Ken. I have enough playlines rebodied on MTMs and I can get my Barbie fix on BGBF

I've recently gotten into Steffi Love and the amount of accessories and often extra outfits for a cheaper price than Mattel is amazing. Granted, all the dolls look the same, but there is value in them.

In my childhood, it was a disgrace to have a Petra, Steffi is the successor to her, instead of a Barbie and there was no way in hell I wanted one or later the Steffi Love doll. Now, I prefer to buy the Steffi Love dolls over Barbies. They look alot better, especially her little sister, Evi Love is really cute and has a lot great dolls and sets to offer. Barbie is just meh. Totally overpriced and quite often, you get nothing but an ugly doll with ugly uninspired printed clothes. These days, Barbie has sadly become the disgrace to have.

Tbf, not defending Mattel prices, but Silkstones have always been super pricey because their bodies are similar to porcelain. However the old BFMC Silkstones had way better clothing quality for the price so the new ones are definitely not as worth it

I love it that they jacked the prices through the roof, and made the dolls online only, and proceed to deem them "unpopular". They are "unpopular" because they cost too much and I'm not paying for shipping from Mattel Creations.

Even the playline dolls were fancy
They had nice screening(No shine, no pixelisation) and had nice clothes and accessories
There is nothing in the new current barbie dolls that will make you scream Wow

In fact, all the shoes in this collection are new designs, even doll number 2 which wears a basic pump shoe is a new updated mold that was used first on her and then on other dolls such as the 2023 lunar new year doll designed by Gup Pei and the Barbie the movie doll with the gold jumpsuit. The shoe molds for the other dolls in the line have not yet been reused in other dolls, from what my memory tells me.

It's just my opinion. But if Mattel used some of the old vintage face molds again, they would definitely sell out. Every time they make a vintage reproduction doll, it sells out. Especially if they would use the Steffi Face Mold. Such as the TNT Face Mold.

I'm sad that this collection is over. This was one of those last lines/collections that was truly Barbie (Pink)! And I will say that all of the dolls (except this one tbh) were excellent. I wish they were more affordable (under $100), and if they were I think they would've sold better. I would've loved to have seen how far this line could've gone. In terms of this particular doll, I think she looks extremely cheap and not worth her price. I don't understand why they gave her those ugly glasses. They could've given her a necklace or something instead. I see what they were trying to do with the hairstyle but it just doesn't look good with the outfit.

Have you seen Jazzie's friend Chelsie? Or her predecessor, Starr's friend Tracy from 1980? That is one of the rare face sculpts that I struggle to imagine how it could be made pretty. Mattel only ever used it for those two dolls.

Congratulations on KIt in Pink. She is such a beautiful doll and I just adore Kit. Frankly I did not find the Pink line that interesting except for Lina and this Kit. To my understanding, the second doll’s design was changed after people had a negative reaction about yet another blonde/blue eyed doll release, and the Collector lines not getting enough representation as the play-lines. Personally I think this was an amazing line, but the prices were not it, especially in Europe where they cost like 149€(163$) and are still to this day catching dust, hence why it didn’t perform well IMO. I’d buy the Lina doll in a millisecond if her price ever dropped here, but nope, nothing.

This doll could have benefited from some gloves and earrings, and maybe a bracelet. And then it would totally be taken to the next level. Infact I think the 2009 Holiday Barbie earrings would match this pink collection Barbie perfectly. As is, this outfit feels incomplete. Im just a little bit annoyed that the crop top is made out of pleather. That really shortens the garment's lifespan and it's really sad. But i think the top is easily the best part of this doll, besides the headsculpt itself.
I'd probably style her hair in one of two ways (cause i just love hair that flows) either let her hair down and cut the rest of it on the same length as the two front strands, giving her a long bob. Or a high ponytail, and then I'd either keep the two front strands or cut them into bangs. But yeah a few extra accessories would have really helped this outfit. i don't think the shades help at all aside from hiding wonk eye if it happens.
Which is i think why the upcoming 65th anniversary Barbies have those big sunglasses too. They'll be so mass produced i fear the majority of them will look wonky as hell...
