As you probably already figured out, that driveshaft didn't fix your vibration. The vibration is coming from the pinion angle on the differential changing since you lowered the car. You need to get an adjustable torque arm so you can set the pinion angle to what its supposed to be, which is parallel to the transmission yoke angle.
I haven’t gotten the car fast enough yet to tell, but yea that makes sense.. I completely forgot about the torque arm. I’ll have to get an adjustable when I put in a loop. Thanks
check your rear bushing in the trans
Everyone seems to think that pinion angle does something dramatic with these cars, it doesn't. As long as nither U-joint is at 0 degrees and it's nothing dramatic then it doesn't really matter what the pinion angle ends up at.
The vibration in most of these cars is not an imbalance (well it could be but most that have the problem do not have an imbalanced DS), pinion angle or most of the other stuff people throw out. What it is is a relatively short shaft that hits it's harmonic RPM and actually flexes with that harmonic causing the vibration (there is a TSB about this for the 4th gens explaining it). Stock most of these cars had relatively low gears 2.73, 3.08, 3.23, 3.27, and some 4th gens came with 3.42's. The higher the gear the more likely you are to get into the harmonic range, which is why it became more of a problem with 4th gens. Almost all of them will vibrate by 75mph with 4.10 gears in them, and the vibration will get better 15-20mph past that (once you get back out of the harmonic). GM's solution changed depending on the years, early on it was to swap in a 1LE 3rd gen shaft, later it was to swap in a later LS style aluminum shaft (different diameter, material density... resulting in a different harmonic).
Be careful with the 4th gen aluminum DS, it's proven to be the weakest of the possible solutions, quite a few people have broken them in very mild combinations.
You're absolutely correct... When I went from my steel stock driveshaft to a 3.5 aluminum.. it made a big difference in vibration... not that it was bad before. It just smoothed it out.@@mpikas
Not true... My 3rd gen sits lower than this car, and i dont have the vibrations you are refering to.
I swear u got the best third Gen Camaro videos and always have links🔥
I miss my 3rd gen IROC-Z. Yours is pretty badass! I like it.
Great stuff man, I'm getting me another Irocz soon and these videos help so much to help me when I'm going to install all the upgrades. I greatly appreciate the info. Great video. Who ever disliked are most likely Mustang guys, lol. Not our fault us Chevy guys can easily upgrade and exchange chevy parts and make monsters out of them.
I don't have a Camaro or LS but I like this video and your work.
Seeing that beautiful blue Camaro brings back some serious memories I had a 89 RS my dad bought it brand new it was a 305 thotle body 5 speed no ttops it was a great car my dad had Chevrolet dealer repainted it electric blue he gave it to me for graduation from High school I loved Street race so I done alot of modcanton but as you know life happens and you have to sell your dream car to pay bills and kids that was the only car I've ever sold that felt like selling a family member I was in my early 20es and now I'm 42 and I have been on a mission to find a 1989 RS 5speed no ttops V8 only I don't have to have blue but if it's not blue it will be
Great stuff. Really looking forward to getting stuff done on mine eventually.
During my divorce ten years ago, I had four cars. One was an 85 black iroc. No one wanted to buy it because of recession, I had no where to put it and it needed lots of work. Sadly I had to sell it to pick a part for only 500$.
I still have my 82 Berlinetta with only 40k on it. Looks like brand new still.
:-(
Too bad...85's the 1st yr of the Iroc-Z. Even needing work there'd be more value in keeping that car.
Sorry to hear that!
@@splash5974 i kept the original single stripe rims though.
@@noo4pass
Nice!
They are my fav factory style wheels...
I have 3 sets! Lol Ya, im abit of a hoarder with some stuff...I still have my 1st car (85 Iroc)
Bought it in '94. Its gonna be a father /son project once my boy is old enough. He's only 9 right now...Then its his!
@@noo4pass
Be a cool project!
Awesome intro! Always great content. Can't wait for the driving footage!
Beautiful Camaro I got a 87 Z28 mine is running close to 220 don't want it that high. I just seen your video and I'm going to do that
Great video work, explaining & editing. Easy to watch and understand.
Man you gave me so much hope ... I have a gutted 1990 rs blue like yours she has some surface rust and putting on the roof and on the gasket at the top of the windshield has separated and I see rust in there as well . Where the battery sits almost rusted out so old gal needs a lot of love but hope and dreams I'll get her there .
Nice car Matt! I've had mine for a few years but not done a thing to it yet. Planning a 383/T56 magnum/Ford9" rear.
Your car is great man , if I ever did a 3rd gen this is the look I’d be going for .
If you haven't already committed, I recommend the 12 bolt. Similar strength and upgrades to the 9", but is more efficient. That way you can keep more of your crank ponies.
Your video makes me miss my 1990 RS. Love your car mate, it's a sick 3rd Gen!
A 4 core radiator is the only thing you'd want in the desert southwest. 3 core radiators were used by the factory in this climate, and on many cars that just want enough. Not by a long shot.
Your vids are great. Very informative! I have a lq4 and a 4l80e for my iroc and these vids help with the swap
How do you do the computer/wiring for a 3rd Gen with the 4L80E?
8.8 from a 95 Mustang won't change your driveshaft length. I've still go the tiny 82 driveshaft in mine because I was a genius and went with a short shaft th350!
Get rid of that dextran coolant and run Preston with a bottle of hyperloop your coolant temperature will be lower
Another great video. Really inspiring me to work on my third gen.
I put a early 80s 4 core vette rad in my 82 Camaro. but I have a belt drive fan. . works great!!
Bad ass car, great channel, keep up the good work buddy
Big tip for a future third gen camaro 🤟🏻plus new subscriber right here
I did a 3 row almum rad for the shoud ditchex the rubbers and bolted down fine on my 87 trans am gta
I have a *1976 Camaro RS 350 HO* and upgraded my radiator this year. I wanted better cooling but, also worried about the right fit. I went with an *OER* 3-Row Radiator and my Camaro is running super cool. I had my Camaro in 98F - 102F weather and it was running right about where yours is. I am not running AC in my old man Camaro though. *HAHA* I believe I follow you on IG. @camaronado
I had alot of issues with electric fans cooling my Camaro, even had all metal 3 core radiator. Ended up putting on a mechanical fan off the motor which solved my issues.
Love those cars but we don't have am in Australia nice job
Ls needs radiator inlet and outlet on the same side.
I need my 85 to sound like this
V V nice car! I have a 4th gen and previous owner fitted a front valance, just 2 inches. All my cooling problems went away when the front valance ripped off on the free way after hitting a rubber part off a truck. Who knew they neeed air?
I've tried to find a place to put a water/meth tank as space in a 3rd gen is limited -- I think this video has just provided a solution. Thanks. It looks like both the 3rd gen and 4th gen tanks could co-exist.
Yea exactly why I did it. My meth tank is probably going in the trunk though. I needed that space for the blower water tank.
Get a custom Denny's Driveshaft once you replace your rear...you wont regret it bro! My buddy had one in his Muncie 3.73 unit in his 86 GTA.
They didn't make a 86 GTA 87 was the first year of the Gta
There was no 86 GTA,just for your information
High performance cooling fans
Southern California is a great place to buy Third Gens cheap, two RRs for sale on my street alone.
Mine used to run hot with the a/c on, ( r134a in stock system) after I upgraded to original air's whole system kit my car runs way cooler and the ac keeps up when it over 110.
got an 84 TA. put in fans and 3 row aluminum radiator running a 400 sbc. still have issues like that with coolant temp creeping up, especially in traffic
There was a video that you quickly put the power steering pump in, but do you have a video of putting it in?
wow, what a badass Camaro. GJ man.
Your car is badass ! U need more subscribers !!
I love 3rd gens. Sweet channel
i like the 4th gen overflow but that's where my turbos gonna go so that's a no go.
Hey man when you do your intro and you are revving the car please turn the background music off so we can hear the car. Thanks
My stock 91 camaro with ac on did the same thing only in summer believe it or not I just washed between the radiator n condenser n it help crazy cause I couldn't see any leaves or trash but I guess it was invisible
those door panel;s are slick, what are they? custom?
Can you tel me if the wheel hit the bracket. What wheel an tire size do you run?
Clean ass car bro u do good work...
How did u get that radiator to fit? Mine seems to tilt to far at an angle towards the accessory drive.
Quick question I notice you have different fan shroud on the trans am and camaro which one will you recommend ?
Nice car, just found your channel. Pretty cool stuff.
What colour is your car? Looks good!
A stock 2nd gen f-body rad mount top covers fit almost perfectly it has 3 bolts instead of 4 but you can order the "Heavy duty cooling" version which has the with for a 2-3 core rad and can get em polished or chrome too. the ebay fan shroud kit, fans are absolutely garbage wouldn't cool a 67 beetle. i got 2 of the 14" spal 70 amp "super" or "heavy" duty cooling fans to go in that ebay shroud and a 200 amp alt. to run em. temp now dont break a 180 deg @ on a 95 degree day with the a/c on. i only run one fan now typically unless its hot hot out or at the track beating it w/ a/c. i did have 2 push 2 pull (kinda like yours) ebay style fans before and got sik of running my new motor so hot
Yea they really are crap. The shroud is a nice piece though. I ordered a pair of 1300 cfm 12 inch Spal fans to go with that shroud.
can you post the link to the radiator that you used please?
Be carefull with that battery holder....it sucks!!...i went through 2 of them on my 4th gen. After a while the plastic lip that secures the battery cracks making it useless in holding the battery. (Why the hell would gm make it plastic!?!)
Gavin Au I'm dealing with that cracked lip right now? What was your solution. I don't see a point in getting another tank if it's just going to break again
My dream is to have a iroc-z and I WILL get one and I think ur vids will help with updates
Have a Z28 86
Will you LS swap my 88 GTA? I'll buy you some beer.
With radiator installed did the temperature go down and to what degree
I wish I could get my a/c @ 38, I am at 70 @ the light and cools down when I start moving again.
How do I hide all the wires n cables for a more clean look
what radiator hoses did you use for the swap?
Good stuff, no matter how big of a rad, or how many pusher/puller fans you install you will still overheat, GM in the 80's used "under the car flap" to direct the air from under the car to hit the rad, as you can see it failed big time, what I'd do, Fab a piece of metal from the bumber to the rad core support, and for below the car just fab a big under carraige cover, so all the air hitting you front end will be forced into the rad instead of escaping below the car.
Hey Matt if you have Facebook join this group the Camaro guys on this group are gonna love your channel. I’m actually gonna post a link of your channel on there now.
Nice info!, change that Steering wheel for a 4th gen
Is the fourth gen driveshaft out of a v8 or a v6
I have a 92 RS
Was that dexcool ? I wouldn't use that crap if it was
Hey buddy I have a th350 with 5.3ls on it and I'm having trouble getting a driveshaft and I seen that you used one out of a 4th gen so do you think that will work for me also
Where can I get that drive shaft?? Sweet video man
It's a 4th Gen driveshaft.
Lucky to have a 3rd gen & a ls or lsx.= NICE! I HOWEVER WOULD LOVE TO SEE HOW IT COMPARES TO A 1973 CHEVY SB 400 BORED .030 OVER USING A STROKER CRANK MAKING IT A STROKER 406. Cost vs power! Having a stroker 406 in a 79 Z-28 previously, it pulled HARD OFF THE LINE W/373 GEARS, Th400 trans.2,500 stall converter, new valve body, shift kit. NEVER LOST A RACE 1/8 MILE!!! THE 250 SHOT WAS JUST IN CASE & NEVER HAD TO USE IT FOR FEAR OF LOSING, THO IT HELPED IN THE 1/4 MILE!!!
Will a 400 turbo Trans work with an LS or an LQ9
Are you planning on sticking with the cam you have now or going with one that will complement the blower?
Im gonna stick with the turbo cam for now. Whenever I upgrade the heads I'll do the cam. It should still make good power, its makes around 60- 70rwhp over the stock truck cam.
Make a plate..support the fender and the resev.
Hey bro, love the videos, any thought on the best type of third gen to LS swap? V6 manual or v8 manual? Thanks in advance
Greg Laing v8
Yea v8 for sure. If you start with a 6 at the very least you’ll need to swap the front springs.
LsxMatt thanks bro, the hunt is on.
Greg Laing I have one almost complete if interested
Nice stuff! What blower you going with
Its a stock lsa zl1 blower.
Not concerned about breaking the aluminum driveshaft at all? I'd recommend a driveshaft loop...
Kind of sort of.. lmao. I won’t be dragging it till I upgrade the rear so I’m not really concerned. It should be alright on street tires.
What front accessories are you running? Currently building a turbo 5.3 for my 3rd gen. Wondering if I can get by with the truck accessories till I get a new intake.
The kit is from Lsx Concepts. I have their high mount Lsa accessory drive with A/C.
How much air do the fans move?what are the spec.clearance .for the them.don't over work the fans
They’re 1,328 cfm a fan.
Nice car! I had a 82 pontiac trans am, knight rider replica. Yeah, im a dumb a@$#$.. i sold the car for 14k and bought some other things. Not sure if you replaced the tail shaft bushing with that new driveline you got, not to mention you need to get the pinion angle checked. just saying. but hey ill get another car someday after my kids grow up. have fun !!
Are you using lsx concepts race drive or the other one for the lsa? I'm doing a lsa on my third gen too just not sure what accessory drive to use
I ordered the race drive from Lsx concepts. Didn’t come in yet.
Hey Matt why didn't you get the ls swap rad the stock hoses fit and it's a two pass?
Mostly cost. I wasn’t expecting to buy a radiator for this swap. The hawks rad is 500, summit was 300.
Hey Matt what's up buddy so I'm having trouble trying to find the right driveshaft for my setup which is th350 with a rear out of a 98 Camaro powered by a 5.3 I see that you went with a 4th gen aluminum driveshaft do you think or know if that will work for my setup thanx in advance
Im really not sure, I don’t have much experience with automatics in these cars. I believe you may need to change the yoke on the trans side, but the length may be close. Search on thirdgen.org, they have a lot of good info there.
Hello I have a question what transmission and engine do you have in the car Thanks for answering and keep uploading more videos give me ideas for me 91 Camaro
Guazon757 Alvarenga same dude I wanna swap my 89 rs
It’s a 5.3 from a 2003 Silverado. Transmission is a 6 speed t-56 from a 2002 Camaro.
LsxMatt Dude you're friggin awesome thx
lower hose radiator name / link ?
Did you do anything to the metal around where you cut it to prevent rust? My old Firebird was super rusty in the battery tray area. It wasn't a fun fix. Then again, it was nowhere near as nice as your Camaro.
Yea I put some touch up paint on the cut edge. I thought I had that in the video, I guess I missed it.
Can you help me with my 85 iroc-z
Very nice
I started to watch then i heard "UMM" WHAT THA FUCK!!
Do you know if the drive shaft will work with the 700r4?
Yea, 3rd and 4th gen driveshafts are the same as far as fitment.
👍
when you first swapped the car did you use truck accessories?
I had 4th gen ls1 accessories,
LsxMatt ok cool getting ready to do a swap myself.
do you have a site for the drive shaft?
I just got it used from ebay. Its from a 2002 camaro.
(Now subscribed) Mainly because i have a 92 rs and its my first car and my project car and i need some guidance to what i want to do with mine
My 92 RS was my second Camaro, my first was an 81 Z-28.
Do you still have it ( I know it 2 years already but I want to know) I’m gonna be buying one soon and would like for someone to help
KAN YOU LINK UR LSA Blower
Torque arm look's familiar
Subbed
Any advice for 91 tbi 305 mods for more hp ?
First thing would be exhaust. Do headers and a cat back. The stock manifolds really choke the motor
LsxMatt. Ok.and anything else i could to im make a list and im subscribe to this channel
Air damn !!!!!!!!!!
Which cam did you used? Name brand?
Tick Performance stage 2 turbo cam.
@@lsxmatt if I get that one and keep everything stock I should be okay right? Or I have to go into hp turner to modify
You should sold it to me and rebuild another one bro.
