lol Jay and Foxy are both so shy and soft spoken here. That lady was outta pocket asking Foxy what she brings to the table. Like lady did you not just witness for yourself?
@@jamaicanbeach8200 Smh. Typicall Jamaican mentality. If she used her natural speaking voice in her raps she wouldn't have stood out to be considered one of the greatest ever. She wanted to show she could stand with the males and in most cases stamd even taller but without having, havimg to wear hoodies and baggy jeans. It's the dichotomy factor of being a sexy female who possess the skills to hold court in a male dominated space.
Fox was 17 here. And Lauryn Hill at this time in 1996 had just turned 21. Nas was 22. Such old souls at such a young age. You would never see that today. I miss this time of real hip-hop.
Absolutely. I think her and Whitney Houston are the greatest voices on their respective genres. No female singer could sing like Whitney and no female rapper (along with many male rappers) could spit like Foxy. They both have a similar cadence and power in their voices you rarely hear even among the best singers and rappers. In my opinion Foxy could actually rap much better than Jay himself (even if he did write some stuff for her) Her tone was much meaner, darker and more menacing than his. I don't even compare her flow to other female rappers. She's easily one of the best, irrespective of gender. Kim was the bigger name only bcuz she was more media friendly and probably the easier/nicer person to work with...but she was NEVER the better rapper. Fox could spit circles around her and had a much better and more natural flow. Even when she so-called "stole" Kim's flow during the 1999 Chyna Doll era, she sounded BETTER than Kim. She had an uncanny ability to switch flows and/or mimic other rappers yet still manage to sound better than whoever she was emulating. When she borrowed Queen Latifahs flow (TALK TO ME diss track 1999) she sounded like a better, harder version of Latifah lol Interestingly enough, both Whitney and Foxy lost their amazing voices (Whitney due to drugs cigarettes and constant touring, Foxy due to losing 70% of her hearing)
Always surprised at how classy and professional Foxy presented herself to the world. She was hella young but knew that she was an equal to the men at the mic and presented herself as such.
Foxy's flow is so butter. Lyrical content aside her and Kim had some of the best flows. Strong and confident but feminine. These new chicks... nevermind.
FOXY wrote this verse herself...I don't know why ppl find that hard to believe she could actually spit. She use to be 13 and in NY battle rap dudes off of freestyles. Jay even admitted after they broke up in the 2000s that she wrote this particular verse. But Jay did write half of the shit on her debut album, but she wrote this verse herself.
I once saw an interview with her. She's quite articulate. Her mother was a high school principal so she comes from an educated family. That was a pleasant surprise. Just goes to show an education won't hurt you.
No one can really say any female is better, she dropped that whole verse no breaks, most rappers can't even finish their lines. She is still the best female rapper to date
goddamn a lot of people don't realize how hard it is to not even stutter, these niggas ain't even miss a beat or nothin. so crisp and watching jay-z performances is like therapeutic.
Wow. Love this performance. Jay and his protegé fed off each other so well. And had the crowd rockin'. "Ain't No..." will always have my heart. It was my introduction to Jigga Man and Fox Boogie. I just thought to look this up because I remember seeing it when it aired and the part where the breakbeat kicks in on Jay's part in the middle of his first verse was so ill.
