    Wow amazing work as always. That beaver tail really looks nice. Really surprised they aren’t in higher demand considering the look. Another cool thing is the person receiving this can watch it being made. Very neat. 👍👍

    • @MuskratOutdoors
      @MuskratOutdoors  3 месяца назад

      Thank you! Beaver tail is really neat leather. The first time I ever saw it, or even heard of it, there was a guy here named Sid Williams that was tanning them. I'm not sure if he was the first or not, but I think he was? Sid passed away quite awhile ago now, but since then, I've seen other beaver tail stuff. Sid taught his Nephew, or maybe Son in Law, I'm not sure which to do it also. I kinda figured out how, but mine are not near as nice as theirs. I like it that they can watch it being made too. It's fun for both of us!

    Gary, the fringe is essential. What does it do? The purpose of the fringe is to wick water away from the leather for drying. About 90% of the clothing of the natives and long hunters was made of leather. Having fringe in places would dry the leather much faster. You would see it on the sleeves where they kept their long guns inside.

    • @MuskratOutdoors
      @MuskratOutdoors  3 месяца назад

      Very true. Now days though it's just for show. I've been seeing a lot of ladies purses with really long fringe lately. I like the way it looks, but some are so long, it looks like it would catch on stuff.

    Hello Gary, Happy Thanksgiving!!! I have a question??? I noticed you are only applying the contact cement to one surface. Are you letting it dry before you put the two parts together? I'm making a sheath for a Bowie I put a handle on and wanted to use some of your talent if you are okay with that? I wont be putting the 4 strand edge though because I don't have neither the talent or strength in my hands.
