@Yanks4life99 we made it to the world series even though we had no one who could hit at first base the whole season my man. We don't need to upgrade 3B until the trade deadline. There will be players not currently on the radar who will be having a proven great season in 2025 and they will be on the trade market.

Gleyber’s worst season: 18, 18, 15… he’s a significant upgrade on Gleyber. Calling him a one tool player is harsh if his defense is league average and his avg and obp are way above league average

One of the biggest pain points for that Yanks offense over the years was not having a guy that can make contact with men on base. This guy in the middle of the order either at 5 or 6 would make for a great offense
Letting Boston get Bregman, just cause, is wild. His tangibles are not gonna fall off as quickly as the average ballplayer because his swing and approach to hitting are durable. And his intangibles are priceless in a baseball rat and leader.
3 time batting champ 200 hits a year and lead off however I get the down side the base running and defense plus you don't want to give up too much this is honestly a tough call .
Goldy, judge, and belly being in their correct positions, Jazz getting an offseason and a season of reps at third, the defense is improving. Acquiring Arraez gives you poor defense at second, sure, about equal to gleyber if not worse, yes. This is still real defensive improvement for a team that made it to the World Series.
Please tell me this whole thing is some sort of leverage maneuver before signing Bregman Or just play Peraza at 3rd and Jazz at 2nd. I’m so tired of losing games because of a slacker at 2nd.
They are probably just weighing all their options since the market isn’t really great. Maybe with arraez they feel with a more strikeout oriented pen they can get away with him at 2B? Idk could all just be smoke. Hard to see the fit with the direction they have gone this offseason
Nobody seems to remember that Arraez played through a nasty hand injury for basically half of last year that really affected him, especially his pop. He'll be a better hitter next year healthy. Defence not so much
Wish it was possible to get Machado instead but his contract is loaded towards the end and I don’t think the Yankees want that but it would solve a lot and can just move Jazz to 2nd
Also: "he'd have a great offensive season...hitting in front of Judge like he was hitting in front of great hitters last season." But you already know that he did not have a great offensive season last year. He was worth 1.2 oWAR in 524 PA for the Padres. You can't even blame the defense. He just wasn't good. That man hit 161 singles last year. He walked 24 times. TWENTY FOUR TIMES! Don't get me wrong, boys; I hope the Yanks sign him. I'm a Dodger fan and I'm rubbing my hands in anticipation of a rematch. Can't wait to watch Mookie patiently foul off pitch after pitch every at-bat until he gets one he can hit right at Arraez. BTW he hit .152 against the Dodgers in 34 AB in the regular season and then got another 22 AB against them in the playoffs. He hit .182.
I watched arraez play 2b all season 2023 on the marlins. He genuinely is not as bad as everyone loves to say. Yes he makes some blatant errors, but he is not on Torres’ level of poor defense and puts effort into every play. He has won the batting title 3 years straight. Also those funny quick twitch drills are how he stays alive every at bat. Dude can get to the ball quickly.
Jake, we should not be questioning the Goldy signing because we have the best offensive first basemen in the game for next year: Judge. He NEEDS to move to first. Hopefully he wins a gg in right this year so he doesn’t feel chased out of the outfield. Let’s get Judge into a first base / DH role ASAP. He won’t let it happen 2025 but let’s aim for 2026, so Goldy is a perfect stopgap
Very few players move from the outfield to first. Oneil wasn't as good as Judge and he played through his age 38 season. Why does Judge have to move if he is still putting up GG defense and playing 150 games? Why do you think Judge could do it? Have you ever seen him field grounders? It's just silly, he's in right until he can't do it and hopefully by then Stanton is gone. Goldy pickup is great though, he is going to bounce back. And if not, hey, it's one year and it's only money. And he cannot be worse than Rizz.
You know G is going to hit the IL at some point. Arraez can fill in there if his D is that bad. I realize you're replacing an all power guy, with a no power guy, but perhaps an opportunity to play Peraza or Cabrera a bit more.
Goldy taught MVP judge how to inprove his average without sacrificing power. Maybe he could teach Arraez how to increase his power without sacrificing average???
Pump the Oswaldo & Oswald platoon at third into my veins. Excited to see 2025 Oswaldo Cabrera. Yankees better actually give him some consistent run when he starts hitting this year.
With Arreaz in the Line Up the Line Up is much better... With Arreaz at 2nd. Jazz at 3rd. And Goldy at 1st and Beli in left, the defense is still way batter than last yr.
I’ve always valued great contact hitters even if they don’t have power because they can be valuable in a good lineup, especially in the playoffs. But he historically performs much worse in the playoffs which kinda makes me skeptical.
He’s never struck out more than 49 times in a season. And he averages getting on base 198 times a year (covid season taken out) Imagine having a guy on base 200 times a year ahead of judge and middle of lineup.
Great batting average which the Yankees need, but worse defense than the current options. Seriously, just let Cabrera work 3rd. He's on the same level as really any other outside option that isn't named Bregman (who the Yankees should avoid for entirely other reasons), and he's a longtime Yankee at this point.
