Lots of great comments thank you! Since the work om the Porsche the oil temp regularly reads lower which is awesome news, i am also going to be getting a set of 15mm spacers for the wheels and im very, very tempted to lower it a smidge. If anyone has a link to a good frint spliiter aswell let me know!

Great video Ben, and the smile on your face shows how much the car means to you. Maybe look at getting the wheel arches ice blasted? My X type also has the ipod connector as a factory option which took the place of CD 6 on CD changer, always thought that's a strange way to add an aux input!

I treated myself to a 996 911 last year, a lovely 40th anniversary edition car, all were manuals, 345bhp.
Mine’s got the Porsche switchable exhaust, too! It’s great.
In retirement, I don’t need another car. My wife’s got what she wanted, and I’ve a couple of classic Suzukis.
She said why not get yourself something purely for the pleasure of it. So I did.
    Glad you did, Ben, too!

Hi Ben, always use demineralised (de- ionised )water or distilled if in a hurry. Tap water possibly has minerals that can cause corrosion to the engine. If your going to such trouble with coolant and oils ( which is commendable, don’t use tap water. Great channel, really good ! Enjoyable and like your approach ! Just change that expensive coolant soon with de - ionised water in the concentrate mix. 😊

Ive just come across your channel, and I must say I love the way you talk and explain stuff, you are a straight talker no bullshit, you’re not trying to be a wannabe top gear presenter, you made me laugh a few times throughout your video, like when you were draining the washer fluid, when you took the front bumper off, when your mum pointed at the camera towards the end, I wouldn’t normally watch a long video on you tube but the way you present yourself is so relaxed and refreshing, I really enjoyed watching and I hope to get a 911 in the future, its always been my dream car. The best of luck with yours👍

Awesome car man, glad to see you are enjoying it, dream come true, might even appreciate in value who knows with cars like this. 5 seconds to 60 is plenty quick for anything, quite an eye opener how modern cars are quickening up now though, we have a 2 ton Ioniq 5 EV with 320bhp/600nm and it will do it in around 4.8... Only nice thing about it is it will do it every single time without fail and thats also the worst thing about it, its just boring really, very little involvement in the drive, no wheelspin (being awd), no challenge... so i understand the EV hate sometimes, i love the car but petrol heads need that roar of the engine, the slip of the tires, the shift of the gears. Even though our car is/was a 50k car its not my dream car, its just a perfect family car (downsides of 3 kids and a wife lol)
Hope this beauty brings you so much joy, one of the top channels around by far!

Also, I think a car like that fits nicely within the channel and content you make. Classic is a broad umbrella term isn't it, yes there's the old bona fide vintage and classics but there's also modern classics like that focus, the mx5 , the TT and the boxter , it's important to do what you're doing so they're preserved. That 911 is still very much a part of the classic discussion and highlights a question that doesn't get debated enough. What cars are the cars of today that are going to become the classic cars of tomorrow?.
I was talking about it with my mates the other day and looking around the streets and roadsides l can't see anything much around that will be a classic as well know it. I think that 911 of yours is one car that will become a classic. So definitely belongs here on the channel.
Again mate, I'm ever so pleased for you, I love to see folk getting on and achieving what they deserve, it does my heart good.

I, like you, am a petrol head and I also feel the weight of my car choices when it comes to "keeping it real" but IMO the 997 is the last great Porsche product and I agree with you on the colour. I was lucky enough to own a 996 C2 in Polar Silver and most recently a 997 Turbo in Cobalt Blue which was a stunning (and different colour)..........one mod I did do was to add the Dectane LED lights at the rear which looked really great on the pre facelift version.....have a look online. Enjoy! 👍

Congratulations, beautiful spec 911 and love your channel. Bore scoring is caused by the Ferroprint plastic coating on the piston skirt wearing off causing aluminium to aluminium contact and metal transfer and galling. Bore score starts at the bottom of the cylinder and should be checked through the sump to verify if you are starting to have a problem. If you see scoring through the spark plug hole the wear is extremely advanced. This was a design failure and is inevitable on all 3.6 & 3.8 997.1 engines. Hartech England & Porsche Club of America both have really informative videos.

I cannot see why you would be concerned about the reaction to this video....although it is nothing like any of your others, it is still a fantastic watch, and will maybe broaden the appeal of your channel ? I personally like the more 'modern' cars you rescue, even though i am quite a bit older than you !

Congratulations, she's a beauty, an iconic car. She cost more or less the same as our first house, it was 1985 though! 🤣
In 30 years or so when you're my age you'll look back and be so glad you did it. 👍

Both very pleased although slightly miffed (i dont want these getting too popular/goung up up in value)... I have been searching for the right 997.1 (I personally don't like the lights/front end on 997.2 and prefer the character of the .1 engine compared to DFI .2 car too)... Although I've also been looking for the right C2s C4s in 'Red' and they're rare, typiclly command higher price than the equivalent silver, grey, blacks, etc. - But £24k is great money for one, and the verts are 100% slept on - If you get bored of this car or isn't you; please give me first option (but honestly, pleased for you, love the channel - Enjoy)...

Superb and agree completely with your thought on getting out and buying if you can, whether its a Retro Stackable stereo system, a ticket for a gig or a new fishing rod. Awesome you can treat your Mum too as we only get one Mum!

Follow your dreams buddy and you are making them reality and what a fantastic video, all your videos are fantastic!!!! You make things real and I prefer watching your content compared to unrelatable projects, I own a MK1 Audi TT, I’ve had three Focus ST’s, watched those over and over.
I love you say your mum is looked after and you got her a Renault Captur, another car I have owned LOL!!!!
Tasty Classics is more than just a channel it’s a way of life and entertainment!!!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!!!!
Oh and nearly forgot, just dropped the wife off at her friends and what was parked in front of me dropping her off……….a black Porsche 911 Carrera 2 S!!!!!

Great video. My dream car. The channel gets better and better.
Unfortunately for the reasons you described I can’t ’buy the Porsche’.😢 I do have a 68 VW Camper tho so I guess I shouldn’t complain.

Love porkers, Iv'e had a few over the years and carried out my Owen maintenance: Looks like you've found a well loved example. Things to look for are the two small Rad pipes behind the front wheel liners, like all German cars they are prone to leaking as the metals degrade and rust, most enthusiast tend to replace them as they get soft and fail. Im not a fan of the push fit hoses with o-rings. (Tip use a silicon type grease to lube up the snap connectors, it make life easy in the future). The front lights, There is a tool in the kit to extract them, they will need to be lubed as they rust and fail, its a nightmare to get them out if this happens. Love the front grill and Rad mod.. well with doing to future proof the car. I use the vacuum method on all my cars. Check the disc have been put on correctly, its easy to get them them in the wrong rotation if you tracking it... I made that mistake ( Get the car to a Porsche specialist as they will pick up on things you wouldn't think about like fuel cap seals and so on. other that that enjoy it.. great experience. .Love the Turbo Alloys, not keen on the Crab Claw wheels - you make me want another one.

100% good advice regarding warm up before rev up but don’t just idle it to warm it up. Drive it very carefully for 10 mons or so - idling it cold is the slowest way to build temp and increases wear by keeping it cold for as long as possible essentially

    • @tastyclassics
      @tastyclassics  7 дней назад +1

Absolutely I hate idling a car, when I had the truck engine built the guy who built it said not to leave it idling until you'd run it in as everything wears better under load
