  • I took the Godox AD200 Pro into the field and did some other testing to compare it to what I normally shoot with the XPLR and speedlights, and how it compares to the older AD200 model. Here's the link to it on Amazon: amzn.to/3mZZKT4

    Thanks for the review. I have just acquired my AD200 (Christmas present) and am playing with it. I really enjoy your videos. I am an amateur and have not done much in the way of property shoots but your advice is really useful as it introduces to me some aspects that I had not previously considered. I now begin my trawl through your older videos and look forward to that enjoyment and instruction. Thanks again. David (Milton Keynes, UK)

    I just bought the AD 200 Pro from BH for $299 last night. I also picked up the wireless transmitter for Olympus. I have been using my Nikon SB900 for years but time to add a little more power. I use them for a little fill fish out doors. I am wondering about using the modeling light to help me when I am shooting my 4x5 just to help focus.

    A great review! I own the AD200 Pro, and its color temperature with the fresnel head is 500 kelvin cooler than my Xplor 600 Pro. (the 600 showing up as 5600-5800, the 200 at 6100-6300). I replaced the fresnel head, but the issue still persists. My speedlights also tend to be slightly cooler, depending on power output, so part of me is wondering if it is the 600 Pro instead.
    Have you ever run into a similar issue? It makes using the 600 as key, and the 200 as fill difficult.
    The flashbulb head for the 200 Pro doesn't have that problem, but it might be color cast from the rooms I have tested it in.

    Hi Nathan. First of all thank you for your books and videos, they are great. And second, I want to buy this AD200 pro but while I was searching for it online I saw another one, the Neewer vision 4, it is inexpensive and in theory has more power than the AD200, what do you think about that one? Will it be good enough to do flambient?

    Thanks much for this review, Nathan. I've found videos from the University of Cool (or, Cool U.) to be invaluable. I wonder if the accessory round head for the AD200/AD200Pro might ameliorate or eliminate the issues you've encountered with the stock Fresnel head. Also, I think that tenth stop power adjustment resolution (with no custom function to reset to .3 stop) would make me crazy. I rely on my AD200s and will probably be getting a third one in the near future. The Pro version isn't worth the additional $50 for my use case.

      Thanks David. I hate to add bandaids to something that, at this price, Godox should have resolved, so I'm not a fan of adding modifiers where on other lights I use I don't have to.

    Good review. Thanks! What about the bulb head? I would think that would spread out better. Also, there are ad-on domes. Have you tried either of these on the AD200?

  • @Papparratzi

    The 10th increment setting on the AD200 Pro is very annoying. I wish go docs would release a firmware choice that would allow 1/3 increments.

    Great video Nathan! I don't have the Pro version, but the info was helpful with my use of the original AD200. Did you consider using the bare bulb with the 5 inch reflector? I recently got the reflector but haven't used it yet. A couple reviews I saw said that the reflector puts out more light and I think it would eliminate the issues you've identified with the Fresnel head.

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  5 лет назад

      Thanks Yuri. Adding the reflector I'd think would make it harder to lay down or put in a holster, making carrying it more difficult. Feels also like a bandaid to a problem Godox should fix.

      Thanks Ken. Great modifier. My main point though is that gear should come with these solutions to solve their problems, or better yet, solve their problems so that additional gear isn't needed :)

    Am wondering if you’ve had a chance to test out the geekoto gt200. it’s supposed to rival the ad200 pro and is cheaper.
    i’m in the market for either of these but trying to keep spending down. been using speedlights but it’s time for a more powerful flash. i’ve seen some regular ad200s for a bit cheaper than the pro version and wondering if i should just spend more on the pro or would the regular suffice?

    Hi Nathan! Thank you for the review. I'm just getting started in the real estate photography business. So far, I have an SB-800 and a YN-660 that I use with RF-603II triggers. I'm hoping to add a bigger light to my setup, but money is an issue at this point. I noticed Yongnuo is supposed to be releasing a YN-200, which is their version of the AD-200. Do you know anything about it? It's supposed to be cheaper than the Godox, and it would work with my existing triggers, but there's not much info about it yet. Thanks again for your helpful RUclips channel and ebooks. You've taught me a lot!

    It would be helpful to know exactly which 'Speedlight' you are comparing to.

    • @NathanCoolPhoto
      @NathanCoolPhoto  5 лет назад +3

      I show that in the earlier video where I did the speedlight comparison testing, where you'll notice I was using a Flashpoint R2 Zoom for the full round of tests. It's a bit like splitting hairs at that point though since most speedlights test the same for power output when comparing them to bigger lights.

      @@NathanCoolPhoto I found an article at flashavoc.com/godox-xpro-flashpoint-r2pro-add-0-1-stop-adjustments/ . I guess you can't change that on the flash but you can make a change on the transmitter via firmware , so at least they'll match. Would that help?

      @hotwireman49 5 лет назад

      @@NathanCoolPhoto it's written a little funky. I think they have some typographic errors in the text, but it says, "once updated to firmware version 1.3, the ad600 pro slash xplor 600 Pro now only provide the option of 0.1 stop increments when adjustments directly on the flash interface. Though the flash will also follow the transmitter settings if the transmitter is set to 0.3 stop increments instead."
