So glad we made it happen during my short stay in Tokyo! We definitely need to do this again next time :-)
Me too! And 100%! :)
@EYExplore hello what camera bag you were using on this vid?
@@jeromecaranguian6338 Squalo Works messanger bag, not a camera bag. :)
@SamuelStreetlife where can we find info on the zine you mentioned you're doing?
Shoutout to Axel's amazing filming!! ❤🔥
He did an awesome job! :)
Really appreciate Axel's varying perspectives and angles during the video. It keeps the scene dynamic and interesting to follow the street photography
Thanks! It would not be the same without him. :)
Sam's original video is how I got introduced to Lukasz work. Great to see this collab happening again.
Nice!! I'm sure we'll do it again some time. :)
Love this collab! I enjoy the interaction while getting to see great street photography, learning and being inspired. I'm a long time fan and follower of Sam Streetlife and it's great discovering new creators he collabs with
Thank you! Glad to hear that! :)
Two of my most favourite street photographers on RUclips in one vid. Many thanks :)
Thank you for watching!! :)
@@EYExplore You're most welcome.
😇❤️
The light shining on you both when you are kneeling down shooting towards the end of the video is amazing - so diffused and cinematic!
Agree!! It was a gorgeous scene in terms of light! :)
love to watch you take pictures can't wait tell i get enough money saved up to get my nikon z9 and do some street photography. i just enjoy your videos very much thank you
Thank you so much!! Be sure to get any camera for now and use that! You can do great work with pretty much any gear! :)
Damn another amazing collab, I can't wait for Japan to open up to tourists again
Thanks! Me too! :)
Axel is wild! The way he incorporates the surroundings and even splits people just for the video is special
He works his ass off! :)
Really liking the low, wide shot of the videos. Super immersive. Also, loving Sam as the guest. The dynamic flow of this channel is always great!
Thank you so much! :)
Man, you guys have such great chemistry, it's a pleasure seeing you guys take pictures. Amazing video.
Thank you so much! :)
That was so nice to see you two guys rambling around. Nice shoots and epic video shooting. 👍
Haha, thanks! It was definitely rambling. :)
I like this kind of video cause I imagine myself walking alongside them and thinking "where would I be for this shot?" or "How would I frame that?" it's fun I like it!
for example at 21:00 I really liked the filling light that the reflection gave to the people so I would've chose the framing the cameraman choose to also get the long shadows but with less contrast on their faces
That's great! The idea behind these videos is to give that photowalk feel. So, glad it comes across! :)
High energy, entertaining video. Banter works well between both of you. A few image gems in the mix - like cafe shot at about 23:50. Brand preference should not be a factor - comfort w/gear and outcomes matter more, IMO. Mirrorless cams can be just fine for manual focusing - peaking and (for Fuji gear) pentaprism, split image capability, along w/focal distance scale in display that simulates zone focusing effect on lenses w/manual markings. Several shooting tips (“fishing” shown by doing in vid) kind of overwhelmed by brand of gear talk. “Legends” can be favorable or not😁.
Totally agree! Everyone should just use the gear they love and no worry what anyone else is doing. Yeah, I realized after that we kinda talked about gear a lot, but the conversation just kinda went there and we went with the flow. I wish talked about photography more, but it just means we'll have to do another video! :)
Here a little AI generated story. I like the way you to go together and work on the same streetphotography video. You seem like a good friends.
"Once upon a sunny day in Tokyo, two brothers, Lucas and Sam, who were both passionate photographers, decided to take their cameras to the streets for a fun day of street photography. Lucas, known for his channel "eyeExplorer," had a big mirrorless camera, while Sam, from "Samuel Street Live," had a smaller DSLR Nikon camera. They were excited to collaborate and capture the unique charm of the city together.
As they began their adventure, Lucas introduced their plan to his viewers, showcasing the dynamic duo ready to take on the streets. Sam couldn't contain his excitement and playfully teased Lucas during the intro. With their banter and laughter, they set out to find interesting subjects and intriguing light.
They stumbled upon a fascinating character, standing under a shadowy silhouette. Lucas and Sam instantly knew they had a great shot, and without any hesitation, they jumped right into capturing the moment. They discussed the different cameras they used, comparing their experiences with DSLRs, mirrorless, and film cameras.
As they wandered the streets, they shared stories about their gear experiments and their journeys in photography. Sam had recently switched back to a DSLR, while Lucas was enjoying his mirrorless Nikon. They playfully debated the merits of different cameras, each standing by their own preferences.
As they continued their stroll, they discovered a perfect spot with beautiful light and interesting cityscapes. They decided to stay in that location for a while, challenging each other to capture the best shots in their own unique styles. Sam had fun shooting into shops, while Lucas loved exploring reflections and shadows.
Throughout the day, they encouraged each other to try new perspectives, making the most of the vibrant city and its people. They discussed their upcoming photography projects, including books and workshops. Their passion for photography and exploration shone through, creating a bond that grew stronger with each shared moment.
Eventually, the sun began to set, and the brothers concluded their street photography adventure. They reflected on the day, cherishing the memories they had captured through their lenses. Lucas thanked his viewers for joining their journey, while Sam playfully hinted at future collaborations.
As the day came to an end, they knew this was just the beginning of many more exciting adventures together. The bond between the two brothers, both photographers with unique styles and perspectives, only grew stronger as they explored the world through their lenses, capturing moments that would forever remain frozen in time."
Hehe, that's fun! :)
Haha just seeing this now. This was awesome!
Great video again, also very nice camera work (especially at 12:52)!
Thank you! Axel was on fire for this video! His camera work was phenomenal! :)
great thumbnail. a pleasure to look at ❤️
Oh thank you! No one's ever said that about any of the thumbnails. I'm glad you like it! :)

finally we see lucaz and sam again in the same frame again after a couple of years 🔥🔥
Yeah, definitely not the last! :)
I was thinking in trying my dslr on the streets again and this video came and now i am 100% convinced
Go for it!! :)
Been waiting for this one 😍
Nice!! :)
Me2
It's been a couple months since you started using the Nikon z 40mm f2 lens, do you have any dislikes?
Basically, none. I still use it a lot and love it. I guess maybe one small thing... when it rains and the front element gets wet, it's kinda hard to wipe the water off easily. I think this is because it lacks the nano coating that more high end lenses have. But yeah, that's the only issue really. :)
Excellent I am glad this is happening
:)
Such a great video walk! Makes me long to get to Japan and shoot with you Lucasz!
Thank you so much1! Glad you enjoyed it! :)
21:18 is good shot how the side walk and the walk way to the left split but also being back light on the sidewalk. Japan has so many good angles. Even 21:19, the little alley way, but looks like light won't shine down there unless it's noonish.
Yeah, this kind of light is awesome in Tokyo.
So, ”official tour” = “photography workshop” lead by Lukasz and Sam. Sign me up. Anything to get us back into Japan, gentlemen. 🙏🏻 Thank you, both.
It could be done! :)
Awesome stuff and great to see you both collaborating again! Been thoroughly enjoying your street videos and since then part of me wants to get into doing it myself. So to test the waters I already had an old Canon 500D that's been packed away for years now. Thinking of pairing that with a 50mm lens and see how things go. At the very least should be a good way to learn the basics.
Also, what sling bag and bottle holder are you using? They are very nifty.
Thank you so much! Good luck with your shoot! My bag is from a small company called Squalo Works. It's just a normal messenger bag. :)
@@EYExplore Thanks, will check em out!
14:09 that HVAC setup looks good, with the little double doors. Pretty good industrial shot especially for detail.
Haha yeah I've shot that before. It's a little tight there with 40mm. :)

great photo walk and conversation topics
Thank you!! :)
You 2 are a great combo. Because of Sams video I found this channel. Cool guy, DSLR streetphotograpy and tokyo is just very convincing
Thank you so much!! :)
More than all the geek talk you had during the video i think the most important tech term to remind is : The light sandwich 😁
Haha yeah!! :)
Nice chemistry between you both and such a relaxed but entertaining photowalk with great images too and courtesy of Axel on camera. (Possible future 400m walking backwards champion?)
Haha yeah, he can walk backwards like a boss!! :)
Really great and fun video 😁
Thank you!! :)
The new lenses are great for getting rid of focus breathing. I sorta don't mind it for manual focus lenses b/c at night I use the breathing to focus. My 50mm currently back focuses and I can see the image bulge slightly to know I'm in focus.
Ah that's cool way of doing it. It's observant of you! :)
Loved this video. Wonderful message. I recently went out shooting with a group. I showed up with my D2x with a 18mm 3.5 AI-s ( 27mm equivalent ). They all looked at me like I was some kind of weirdo. Cloudy day. In camera B&W Aperture priority f/8 Auto ISO focused at 2 meters and shot all day without adjusting a single thing. Just raised the camera to my eye and fired away. I had a blast.
That's awesome!! Great camera+lens combo. And with BW basically can handle any kind of light conditions. :)
@@EYExplore watching your 'big camera vs small camera' video as I type this. Tomorrow I'm bringing my D2x with 16mm 3.5 AI-s ( 24mm eq ). Can't wait to see their faces lol. Going to try and use the distortion to my advantage. Much like lines of distortion, I like bending the "rules". Some people are way to serious. I like having fun and experimenting. I always bring my trusty lil Panasonic GX7/20mm 1.7 as a backup though.
@@kennyj604 Yeah, I don't get where this extremely serious mentality comes from. It's art. It's personal. It can be fun. There is no wrong way to do it! :)
Great vid, man! Love it :)
Thank you very much!! :)
Hello from the UK.
I like your videos, and love your photos.
Sorry if it is rude to ask , but I have always wondered, where you are from in the world?
I was born in Poland and moved to the US at the age of 5. I grew up there and moved to Japan right after uni, in my early 20s. :)
A and M are my most used modes and I'll leave Auto-ISO on almost all the time. I only turn Auto-Iso off at night. I switch between A and M if I want a specific shutter speed otherwise -1 (daylight), -2 (shade), -3 (night), -4 (moon light), -5 exp comp (high speed night). With CMOS sensor's I only stop down -3. CCD I'll go as low as -4, -5.
Same here! :)
great video - would have thought that ducting on the outside of the building (14:14) would have been right up your street Lukasz?
It is, and I've shot it before. :)

Can’t wait to see this one
Nice! :)
Hi Lukasz, what camera strap and slingbag you used in this video? They both look neat and simple.
The strap is Peak Design (please use the link in the description) and the bag is from Squalo Works and only in Japan (and I don't think they sell it anymore).
@@EYExplore Thanks! I live in Japan too so I'll check them out.
@@Azra-z7c Oh great! I got mine at Tokyu Hands but dunno if they still sell them. :)
nice to see you both together in 1 video
Thanks! It was fun! :)
You should rename the video, "Carrying bricks in Tokyo"
Very comfortable bricks👍
@@SamuelStreetlife i love it !! Great response
I carry my brick for self-defense. :)
Hi Lucas, what camera bag is that? Great videos and collab! As always.
I believe it's a messenger bag from Squalo Works
Squalo Works! And yeah, it's just a messenger bag, not a camera bag. :)
Cool! thanks everyone! looks okay on a small camera like Ricoh even its not a camera bag :D
@@jeromecaranguian6338 Yeah I carry my GR in in this bag all the time. Sometimes I slap a spare SLR lens in there (a prime). It's a very nifty bag! :)
20:43 Clamshell but light sandwich 💡🥪 that's a good name, I think better than clamshell which sounds glamourous
Yeah it seems there are a bunch of names for this. I never really had a name for it but I love this kind of light. :)
How about a video of you buying equipment in one of the best places to get Japanese electronics
Haha, is that really exciting? Here is my money, thank you for the gear, video over. :)

I really appreciate that! :)
Wanna se third video on gr channel? Probably not uploaded yet?
Yeah, it's not even done being edited yet haha. I will finish it soon and then it's up to Ricoh when they wanna post it.
Sam smashing it with his images in this video and the files look heads above the Z9 which look way too digital and lifeless. Great work.
Thanks for shitting on my editing style. :)
@@EYExplore well that wasn't the intention however if the look is because of the way you have edited the files then that is therefore not necessarily a mark against the system. Editing is such a personal thing at the end of the day.
@@leethirkellson Yeah, that's what I was getting at. It's totally cool if you don't like my edit, but yeah... don't hold it against the system. The colors and DR out of this camera are fantastic. :)

Great collab.
Thanks! :)
Plays best at 0.75 for speed. more relaxing...
Interesting idea. :)
do you intend to photograph people in costume for this year's halloween?
ABSOLUTELY! I just hope there IS a Halloween this year.
people getting really worked up about gear.shoot with whatever makes you happy and you can afford,if the result is pleases you first then thats what matters in the end i guess.fantastic collab and pic results.
Totally agreed!! :)
Anyone telling you're wrong shooting with a big camera doesn't remember or know about the film days. Sure ppl shot with small 35mm cameras but my goodness if any one saw a journalist back in the day 🤣🤣🤣 Some journalist regularly had 6 cameras around there neck or shot medium format.
Yeah!! Exactly. I don't know what is the obsession with small cameras these days. I think people are just too focused on being 'discrete' when you can do street all kinds of way. I dunno...
@@EYExplore might have to do with the environment. Japan is pretty used to being photographed, you guys also look like tourist. But either way your camera really isn't that big. The Pentax 645, 645z, H6D, Mamiya 645 those are big cameras. I think its the long or big lenses that throw the public off. But everyone today has a camera, we're all photo obsessed these days and for good reason. Life is short, finite and you never know.
I shoot a lot of film and my d850 takes pictures on par to 4x5 at low 64 ISO
Nice!! :)
nice video. when you write at 10:11 1/3200 iso-64 -1.7eV under the bridge, does that mean -1.7ev is contained in the 1/3200 because camera first choosed 1/800 due to dark zones and you wanted to underexposed to have deep shadows ?
that is EXACTLY right! :)
Yeeeeee lets do this!!!
Yeah! :)
Can you demonstrate what to shoot in a cloudy day when there is no sun?
Sure, some day. I bet we have some videos on our channel shot on cloudy days, though. :)
Personally, I wouldn't use the D850 for street photography. Rather, I'll take a Ricoh GR III instead.
Sure! Everyone should use what they like. :)
Or take both😉
Did you had to edit Sam's photos as well?
No, he did his own photos, but we did edit both videos. :)
I was confused thinking you both shooting DSLR’s, wondering so who is hiding behind the Nikon Z9?
It’s and EVF and the conversation was negative towards that.
But now I get it, when you mentioned coming to the dark side you meant going over to photography with a brick around your neck, not using a mirror.
My mistake.
No, I think we both meant coming over to Nikon since Sam spent a few years shooting with Fuji.
Challenge your ear 😂
:D
sneak dissing each other the whole video
Did we???
D850 is still a excellent camera..
It is! :)
A big problem for street photography in Japan, I think, is the fact that just about everyone wears a face mask.
I find that very regrettable... almost never a face on the picture...
Yeah, I agree!! It's one reason I've been shying away from shooting people directly for the last two years. The masks just look stupid, so it's pointless to photograph people like that. I go for silhouettes and other 'impressionist' ways of photographing people. Anyway, I hope people come to their senses soon and stop wearing the masks 24/7.
is street photography the secret loophole to getting past japan's borders? I can keep a secret ;)
I wish! :)
I love youtube!!!!!
:)
👍👍
:)
I thought japan has Portrait Rights, that you can't show people's faces without their consent?
No portrait rights in Japan. There are no laws covering it. It could be an issue if used commercially, and potentially someone can try to sue if they can prove damages to reputation, etc.
18:44 I really like
It's a good one! :)
Regarding the fact that you said in the chat that any type of camera can be used in street photography, yes, any type of camera can be used, even D850 and Fuji medium format 100 megapixels; But don't doubt that your photos are soft, especially for moving subjects; Due to high processing, the smallest vibration in high megapixels causes the end of the image to be soft; I don't care about the size of the camera for street photography; I have been photographing myself for 20 years and I have photographed with many cameras; I use Nikon D4S and Nikon D700 for street photography, cameras with 12 and 16 megapixels; But my Nikon D850 and Fuji GFX 50S cameras with 46 and 50 megapixels are not suitable for this type of photography due to the high megapixels and low pixel density and the lack of stabilization inside the DSLR body like the D850; The use of these cameras is clear, great for the studio. Industrial and advertising photography and macro photography, great for landscape, of course, on a tripod; Now, one day, I might feel like taking my 50 megapixel Fuji or Nikon and taking photos with it. I can take some good photos, but this does not mean that these cameras are suitable for this type of photography.
I don't really see why the resolution matters. You can just shoot in 45mp and then export in 16mp if you want. Or on the D850 you can set to smaller MP raws straight out of the camera. All you are saying is that these cameras are not suitable for street photograph FOR YOU. And that's totally fair. But the Z9 is extremely well suited for street photography FOR ME. And it's one reason I got it. I cannot speak for the D850 for Sam, but I'm sure he has his good reasons. The truth is that cameras are tools and we select the tools that work for us and we all know what's best for us. :)
I think the argument about camera shake with 45-50MP is a little exaggerated. Yes it is easy to recognize motion blur in photos but in my experience I would have to have really shaky hands or shoot very slow shutter speeds. Short little micro movements definitely cause motion blur more easily (when you are freezing for example) but in normal conditions I never encounter any soft images due to the high resolution. I even do night photography hand held at 1/60 shutterspeed and they almost always come out sharp. And for street photography I also wouldn't mind a little softness because it's not always about sharpnes. As Lukasz said, you can always downscale images if the softness bothers you. For me the 45MP are just a nice to have in case I want to print my photos large. Which I sometimes do.
@@EYExplore When you reduce the number of megapixels of a camera like D850 from 46 to 27; There is no change in pixel size; It only scans one pixel every few pixels; This only makes the process speed up; Regarding the Nikon Z9, due to the stabilizer inside the body, there is no vibration problem in the high megapixels of the dslr cameras
@@SamuelStreetlife There is no exaggeration, dear friend; I mentioned that by reducing the amount of megapixels from 46 to 27 or lower, the pixel size does not change; Rather, however many pixels are read as one; The amount of noise control and processing speed of a camera with a 16 sensor whose pixels are larger is not comparable to a 46 sensor that is set to 16; Therefore, why is it necessary to use the 46 camera on lower numbers? I myself have Nikon D850; It is definitely the best camera produced by Nikon in recent years; But I use Nikon d4s and Nikon d700 for street photography . for landscape photography; time lapse ; long exposure; And for macro and portrait under flash light, I use d850 and fuji gfx 50s; Cameras are produced with different uses; Definitely you if gfx 100s; Get the Pentax 645z and the Fuji gfx50s, and maybe do street photography with it. But this is not the reason that the use of these cameras is suitable for this type of photography.
@@SamuelStreetlife How many of the photos you took at 12.39 minutes on 1/80 are soft; 11.31 minutes on 1/400 are soft; 11.20 on 1/800 are not sharp at the end; 15.57 minutes on 1/640 were excellent and sharp; 16.46 minutes. 21 You also took some photos that were not displayed; You have a soft image on 1/800 in daylight; How do you get it sharp at 1/60 second at night?!
Campers 😂
Hehe. :)
