You are very welcome. As mentioned was one that I needed to do.
      Thank you

For a zero reference you are expected to short the leads together to null out all that noise,

Hi OP - Never thought of that - will give it a try. Thanks

Do you have a procedure to calibrate a thermocouple card mv 1756 16 or 8 Channel
    Type J

      Hi Greg:
From what I read in the documentation - a percision resistor is required to do this calibration on these cards.
I asked multiple supply sources and no one could supply me with one about 6 months ago when I looked for them.
The software will step you thru the calibration but the external resistor is required before you start.
I will find the value and post here in the answers tomorrow. If you have a source I would like to get some for my stock!
      Thank you for asking.

Found this today in the Analog calibration manual:
From reading thru the manual you need a mV voltage calibrator source.
I don't currently have one and not sure of the prices, but suspect that $1000 or more is not out of line.
Cut and paste from manual below.
      --------------------------
      Calibrating the 1756-IT6I or 1756-IT6I2
This module only calibrates in millivolts. You can calibrate the module to either a
-12…+30 mV range or -12…+78 mV range, depending upon your specific
      application.
