Good morning and great job as always. You’ve touched on something that I hope many will appreciate - there are many ways to achieve the same result in modern audio kits/setups. And navigating these choices can be very difficult, especially for those newer to the hobby. @@andrewrobinsonreviews always. Thanks by the way for the shout out during the live, as one of the regulars who didn’t creep out Kristi. Last thing i would ever want as your subscriber is to make anyone uncomfortable. I cut the cable cord years ago. I dont watch tv, listen to the radio, or engage in much current media. I'm getting Tool Time vibes.... is that the name? You know with Tim the tool Man 😮 Like how Tim talks with the hidden neighbour over the fence that we never see.... Hi Kristy Anyway, so far so good 😀✌️
We've been doing a version of this for years on our regular review videos where she chimed in at the end of the official review. It's a shame that it would appear some of the audience has been missing out. Regardless, I'm glad you are enjoying it!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Yup, I am....it’s like your live streams. Except not live. So for me not too much difference. It’s the banter that is the most fun! 😁👍
Great new format that perfectly compliments your fantastic channel. Before this format you two were already one of the top in the business. This format really sets a new bar and pushes you to the top. Thanks for your attention to detail and your ability to deliver content in an informative and fun way.
The Eversolo DMP-A6 I purchased had a loose screw rolling around in its case. I looked on amazon and someone else also had the same issue recently. I opened the SSD slot and shook out the screw but did not trust the unit so I sent it back. (the screw was not the screw the screw to hold down the NVME ssd either)
2K for a streamer is a tough sell for me. Apple TV 4K w/ Apple Music and/or Tidal exists. This may sound better, but it is not 10x better than the Apple TV 4K. I have almost 8,000 FLAC on my NAS, and I still just use the Apple TV for music (only) in my Home Theater. FLAC is collecting digital dust, lol.
For the money, my view is that the Eversolo is an incredible buy. You can't go wrong in my opinion. I have a HiFI Rose RS130 streamer transport which are 3 x the price of the Eversolo. It does work. It is built extremely well. Its screen and sound is next level but also is somewhat expensive but then compared to what as in great buying compared to some other exotic brands.
If you have a DAC and an amp for your main stereo speakers and a subwoofer, how do you decode the signals for your surroundsound and height speakers? Is there a separate Dolby decoder with outputs for the effects channels? Are we stuck buying all-in-one theater relievers and relying on their amps? What do you recommend? Love the new format.
Thanks.....so, let me get this straight : To stream Apple Music in their lossless, 'hi-res' format , one must download / add the Apple Music app to the Eversolo App Dashboard, then make the settings for lossless preferences / bit depth / sample rate, THEN "cast" the stream from the Eversolo app to the device. ....did I nail it ?
Finally! Some banter ◡̈. Andrew comes across as careful and measured (I know it is a compiled script from both of you). While Kristi is more off the cuff and some comments surprise Andrew and make him laugh. The overall effect is one that is more informative and also light hearted. That is nice.
For those who want the best sound quality dac with a streamer/renderer included below $2k, nothing beats Gustard a26 or r26. Again, sound quality being the formost priority.
I love my A8. I wouldn’t say it was warm but it has a slight absence of thwack/dynamics in the lower minds that makes it sound slightly softer than, say, my old RME-ADI,or the A6. But nevertheless this is a small trade off for all the things it does amazingly well - soundstage, tonality, timing, cohesion, separation and depth are all the best I have heard in my system.
It would be nice if the video title indicated what product was being discussed. Even if it is something like “What the DAC is going on here? -EverSolo DMP-A8” I recognize there are nuances to title creation but I find ambiguous titles frustrating and I the added information would be helpful. Keep up the good work.
I appreciate the feedback but that is not something we are interested in doing. You can refer to the video's description and pinned comment for details about the video/review being referenced in the Unplugged episode. We are not including a product name in the title because (we don't want to and) because this isn't solely about the Eversolo. Thank you for watching!
We should talk offline about Roon. With your technical capabilities and strong ability to explain such things in a way that everyone can understand, I see opportunities that are mutually beneficial to you and Roon subscribers. Roon is so much more than a skin over music streaming services. It's a useful tool for a reviewer. I can explain more on a call. BTW, I enjoy this new format. Great work. ❤
I use to stream with my IPhone 15 pro before I went to the A6 ME , a big step of improvement. Ease of use , easy set up , reasonable price , streams lossless. I’m happy with it just as a streamer.
Hello Andrew, Which of the three Eversolo DACs do you feel do the best job, Z8, A6, or A8? I do understand sound is in the ears of the beholder, but I value your opinion. BTW, love the new format😊.
Okay, I'm liking the new format with the Unplugged episodes, even though new things make me uneasy. I'm also liking Kristi handling the sometimes slightly unhinged commenter names.
@@KristiWright I missed the start tonight, any chance you could send out a notification maybe an hour before so we can set up an alert. I enjoyed this evening, always good to mix it up a bit. Keep up the great work👍👍
I suspect this new format is a post-mortem for Andrew's last review. The firing squad. Setting both the record and Andrew straight. Full length feature. I have two suggestions. Call this weekly segment The Firing Squad, or Kristi's Vengeance, or The Golden Chair. Or Wright's Right.
+1 to loving the new format. 2 questions and 1 comment: Does the DMP-A8 sound so much better than the MiniDSP SHD to justify the cost? Does tv (music shows) sound better when routed through the A8? I like Roon for two reasons: music discovery with the ability to look up the artist and the ability to Cast the lyrics and artist to my Sony TV. Love the show and appreciate the work that goes into it.
Thank you for your support and for watching! It's not that I feel the A8 sounds crazy-different or better than the MiniDSP. Considering both are custom PEQ powerhouses, at least in the hands of a knowledgeable user, you can essentially get either product to sound however you like with a little tweaking. Stock from the factory, the A8 does a lot more than the SHD, but again, I don't think these are two products that are aimed at novice or users who are going to leave factory or well-enough alone. From a usability standpoint, the A8 absolutely takes the cake and is the "better" product in my opinion. But the SHD has DIRAC and better, easier subwoofer integration so if those things are important to you, you should probably get the MiniDSP.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Thanks for your quick response! So unexpected these days and just another reason why your channel is the best in so many ways. I own an SHD but have always wanted to try some of the other formats (DSD) which the A8 would open up. In addition, after buying the Concept 50’s (thanks A & K), I don’t feel the need to “tweak” as much as I used to. You’ve given me a lot to think about as it sounds like a great product.
28:06 still keeping it real. One of the things I've always loved about the channel. I like the fact that if you don't know the answer you simply say you don't know instead of trying to look like you know everything. Just like so many others do I just won't mention any names.. keep up the great work you guys still loving the new segment.. I just hope you both realize you are opening Pandora's box 😂.. p.s. I still like the name: ( AUDIOPHILE'S TAKE NOTES) Let's do a community vote 😂 ✌🏼
Appreciate that, Nick! I try to know what I can, but I have learned that it's best to say you don't know rather than speculate or get the answer wrong. Plus, this new format allows me to clear things up or give y'all answers I may not have known at the recording time.
So, I'm thinking the reason many people say the DAC in the Eversolo is "warm" is because many of us are more familiar with Chinese ESS Sabre DACs (especially after the AKM Fire) like Topping, SMSL, Gustard, etc. and by comparison, AKMs DAC chips are generally "warmer" when compared directly to ESS. To a lot of us R2R, ROHM, etc. are at a higher price point and so we are generally less familiar with their sound.
I got the A6 and I can't imagine how there could be a better sound.... The only problem, I can't get the VU meter to sync and the spectrum theme to pop off. Any suggestions. 🖐️🤓 Hey Hey Kristy
Since you two also do reviews of video devices, maybe it would be good to take a look at the multimedia players made by Zidoo, the parent company of the Eversolo ones. I assure you that they are extremely good.
My understanding is that ROON will connect but "Certified" allows you to basically connect your specific device, access its icon, user guide, etc and it be actually listed in the roon service as a listed device. :) PS - I love the ROON grouping feature! I can control all three of my systems and streamers from one space, so nice.
Hello, I have a Marantz 40n that I use as a streamer and earc out from TV. Do you think the A8 is a worthy upgrade as a streamer that I can connect to the 40n? I am also considering Luxman NT-07 streamer(Made in Japan)
Streamer/DACs like the Eversolo family or other dedicated music streamer (BlueSound, Cambridge Audio, Auralic, PS Audio etc.) are typically used by music enthusiasts, where absolute audio quality has top priority. Most likely, their setup does not include an AVR for listening to stereo music, because the AVR would interfere with the audio signal and have an impact on the audio quality. They still might own an AVR, but it would have its dedicated usage for home cinema purpose.
I did think DACs make almost no difference until I used the cheapest SMSL DAC SU-1 with my Marantz Cinema 70s. Well, it is not a small difference at all, it improved the sound a lot, maybe because the DAC in AVR is just too bad, but DACs do matter.
Yes, my girlfriend and me both felt a big difference after SMSL died (famous chinese quality control), now I can't listen to some blues songs without it, it just sounds wrong, missing fullness, not sure how to describe better. I am aware that louder can sound better, but I am always listening stereo at the same volume. @@andrewrobinsonreviews
I’m extremely happy with my DMP-A8! Now in search for a power amp to complement it and replace my Roksan Atessa integrated. Perhaps Audiolab 8300XP, or any suggestion around $2,000? I believe that is the adequate price range to go with the DMP-A8…
@@WoutervanderWeijst Thank you for the suggestion! It is in my shortlist and knowing it leans towards warm should be a plus especially with the Eversolo
Of course Kristi is the star of the show. She's the power behind the throne and retains an enigmatic quality with her non-appearance. You do ok too, Robinson 😊 P.S. Agreed, the. DMP-A8 is great and for sure my best ever VFM purchase.
This device is for 2 channel music. This device is not for a surround receiver. This is an option to create a high end 2 channel music system at a more affordable price . The unit does everything for 2 channel listening except having an amp (you pick your best option instead) and a phono preamp. This product has nothing to do with video or surround sound.
Great job,! ❤ it. I am in the process of putting together a new system, all in one hifi and home theatre. Nothing over the top i do have a sensible budget. I was trying to understand do I need/want one of the Eversolo products. This helped to explain it better, now a Shield might be an option. More research, it's all in the planning before I start buying components. THANK YOU 😊
Thanks for the note. It' seems that the Eversolo II2 port won't pass YoutTube video from the audio streamer. I do have a kludge solution (but it won't involve the Eversolo). My Sony X800M2 universal disc player has both HDMI audio and HDMI video outputs, and they conveniently snuck in a RUclips streamer as a bonus feature. So you can use the HDMI audio to go into your DAC and audio system and the HDMI video (from discs and RUclips) into any convenient HMDI display screen.
The beauty of the Eversolo A8 is its simplicity. I replaced my streamer, Dac, and Preamp with one high quality device that just works. In my setup with the Schitt Tyr monoblocks going to the Magnipan LRS+ it is the best sound quality that I have ever achieved for a midfi setup. I stream tidal and use Apple Music app on the device and it is seem less.
Nope. We've tagged them on Instagram a half dozen times when viewers have asked during Q&As about a PSA review, where we've expressed interest if they wanted to connect.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews I've got all my CDs ripped to an SD card on my phone. I can cast my ripped CDS or RUclips music via my cheap Sony blueray player which has a coax out to connect to a DAC or I can cast them to the Chromecast I already have plugged into my TV. Roon is just a solution in search of a problem. The whole process of setting up a NAS to use with Room seems like a giant hassle with no benefit on the other side.
I'm sad to hear about all the issues with the Hifi Rose gear. I work at a stereo store in Toronto and we have had all their streamers, dacs, and amps with no issues. Better than that actually, they are my favourite (yes with a "u" in it!) streamers and among my favourite dacs. I would love to hear your thoughts on the Hifi Rose products if you ever get working ones and perhaps a comparison to these Zidoo products. Thank you both for all the work you put in to the channel. Love from up North.
eversolo dmp-a8 not a budget system. sigh looking for a streamer for an 40 yo analogue 2 channel amp so a Wiim Pro Plus or the upcoming Ultra may be the go. In the meantime, will plug my phone into the system and play Amazon music.
Hi Guys, Andrew I have to say I feel that your reviews are an honest review and not influenced by manufacture of the product you are reviewing. Currently I have the A6-master edition and I upgraded the power supply with the aftermarket power supply. Did the power supply make a difference I would say yes but its not a night and day difference that I could tell. I had the Auric that you mentioned and I like that unit but I do find my A6 ME sounds better and has more functionality then the auric at a very cost effective price. I do not find the A6 ME bright nor warm. I find it pretty nutural, I really like this units sound, shortly after the I bought it the A8 came out and I was wondering if I should look at the 8A. I know there are several opinions one one DAC chip VS the next DACs chips sound. Lets be real there is no perfect chip and ass you said many times your systems sound is personal to you. When I watch your reviews I listen to see what you have to say about HOW IT SOUNDS. That is to see if I am interested in the sound signature. You nailed it on the Polk R-700’s they were what I was looking for as far as a speaker. I have them powered by Mcintosh c-2700 pre and mc 312- power amp. I have no problem at all using a pair of in expensive speakers with 16k of of electronics. The c2700 has MC D2- dac in it 2K add and I switched back and fourth and they both sound very good but subtle differences, I like my music to meat on the bone. I had focal electra speakers, before the r-700 and they were way to bright for me and had no meat on the bone, I have been a hobbyist for 40 years and say it about time that we can have good quality produce at an affordable price. I am curious at looking at the A-8 just because you know how we are in this hobby! But you are 100% correct on how the eversolo products sound. Keep up the great honest reviews and your approach as to how you hear the sound of each product you review.
What format are we talking about? I’m 54 and slow to catch on. Lol For whatever it’s worth I very much enjoy the more Family reviews with husband and wife. It adds a hint of sweetness and hominess Unless you are all alone listening to music. This is a reminder that it’s SO much nicer sharing things with a spouse. ❤
I have a Marantz 5015 and the HEOS app is pure garbage. If anyone came out with a quality processor for small systems 5.1 or even just 3.1, it would be killer for people like me who don't want 16 speakers installed. I want a 3.1 system, with separate amplification, and there are simply no products on the market unless you buy $7500 AVM90 etc. All the AV processors have crap DACs/music quality and average streaming services (no aptXHD) compared to this.
I think you guys really missed your chance here. You could have stated that Kristi doesn't appear because she's A.I. generated. To further fuel the conspiracies, point out that 4 of the letters in her first name spell Siri. You could make up something else for the K and T. Krypton, abbreviated? P.S. the recommendation for the Bose Ultra bar was a winner. Cheers, Grant
I2S is, for the people who believe in it, simply a better way to bring your music into your stereo system and out through your speakers. The believers of it say that the sound quality is superior to that of any other delivery system, for example, USB, coax etc.. what those unique differences are that make the sound “” better you’ll have to figure out for yourself

@@alantan6786 Optical out to SMSL SU1 Dac RCA out to Denon receiver.
I'm getting Tool Time vibes.... is that the name? You know with Tim the tool Man 😮
Like how Tim talks with the hidden neighbour over the fence that we never see.... Hi Kristy
Anyway, so far so good 😀✌️
We've been doing a version of this for years on our regular review videos where she chimed in at the end of the official review.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks again. Cleared up the need for a DAC.
Love this whole thing so much!
🙌
The format is awesome
Thanks!
Wake up babe, the Kristi Robinson show is on!
🎉
It would be nice if the video title indicated what product was being discussed. Even if it is something like “What the DAC is going on here? -EverSolo DMP-A8”
I recognize there are nuances to title creation but I find ambiguous titles frustrating and I the added information would be helpful.
I love this new format guys and so happy that we now get to see Kristi !
Great work. ❤
great video!
Thank you so much!
I use to stream with my IPhone 15 pro before I went to the A6 ME , a big step of improvement. Ease of use , easy set up , reasonable price , streams lossless. I’m happy with it just as a streamer.
I assume youre going to an external dac? Did you hear a sound difference between using phone compared to a6?
@@alexlopez-u3i Huge diff , dynamics , smoother , more micro details , less background noise etc.
Hello Andrew, Which of the three Eversolo DACs do you feel do the best job, Z8, A6, or A8? I do understand sound is in the ears of the beholder, but I value your opinion. BTW, love the new format😊.
Great video, yall always make great content. Love the new format, keep them coming! 😀
Okay, I'm liking the new format with the Unplugged episodes, even though new things make me uneasy. I'm also liking Kristi handling the sometimes slightly unhinged commenter names.
Thanks for giving the new show a try!
Danke! Nice new format!👍
Thanks so much! Appreciate you as always!
So glad you enjoyed it!
Evening Andrew and Kristi👍👍👍

@@KristiWright I missed the start tonight, any chance you could send out a notification maybe an hour before so we can set up an alert. I enjoyed this evening, always good to mix it up a bit. Keep up the great work👍👍
"Kristi Wright, The Real Star Of The Show" - Best title ever!
😂
Great format , gives you an opportunity to answer a lot of questions 😀
I suspect this new format is a post-mortem for Andrew's last review. The firing squad. Setting both the record and Andrew straight. Full length feature. I have two suggestions. Call this weekly segment The Firing Squad, or Kristi's Vengeance, or The Golden Chair. Or Wright's Right.
The Firing Squad has some ring to it I must admit though it might be a little harsh....
@@brunohebert1351 it was all tongue in cheek, just hope Andrew and Kristi got it :)
I just hope you both realize you are opening Pandora's box 😂.. p.s. I still like the name: ( AUDIOPHILE'S TAKE NOTES)
Let's do a community vote 😂 ✌🏼
Appreciate that, Nick! I try to know what I can, but I have learned that it's best to say you don't know rather than speculate or get the answer wrong. Plus, this new format allows me to clear things up or give y'all answers I may not have known at the recording time.
Besides the convenience of CEC, is there any benefit to HDMI vs optical in a 2.0 or 2.1 channel setup?
So, I'm thinking the reason many people say the DAC in the Eversolo is "warm" is because many of us are more familiar with Chinese ESS Sabre DACs (especially after the AKM Fire) like Topping, SMSL, Gustard, etc. and by comparison, AKMs DAC chips are generally "warmer" when compared directly to ESS. To a lot of us R2R, ROHM, etc. are at a higher price point and so we are generally less familiar with their sound.
I really like this. I can listen while going to work.
I got the A6 and I can't imagine how there could be a better sound.... The only problem, I can't get the VU meter to sync and the spectrum theme to pop off. Any suggestions.
🖐️🤓 Hey Hey Kristy
I just hit the (i) button on the A6 remote control (physical one). It cycles through the song playing, VU, spectrum etc.
@@jasonlsimmons I didn't know it came with a control. Thanks
Also, dmp a6 and keep wondering if Master Edition or A8 sound better or just diferent type of better 🤔
.
Andrew did you see that Classé have put out a mk ii of the preamp? Also an upgrade for the mk i, though that costs more than the Eversolo.
What can I get that I can stream Apple Music and Apple Music Dolby Atmos natively? Am I limited to Apple TV 4K?
Yes, a good alternative for Roon is Plex + RoPieee (Roon and Plex endpoint), especially for the Linux ecosystem.
Nice lively format. Thanks for sharing.
Like the adjustment with showing the Kristi photo, now I just feel like I'm being Trolled every time it shows on the screen, Lol
I did think DACs make almost no difference until I used the cheapest SMSL DAC SU-1 with my Marantz Cinema 70s. Well, it is not a small difference at all, it improved the sound a lot, maybe because the DAC in AVR is just too bad, but DACs do matter.
DACs can matter. Did you make sure the SMSL was playing back at the same volume as the input on your 70?
Yes, my girlfriend and me both felt a big difference after SMSL died (famous chinese quality control), now I can't listen to some blues songs without it, it just sounds wrong, missing fullness, not sure how to describe better. I am aware that louder can sound better, but I am always listening stereo at the same volume. @@andrewrobinsonreviews
Thanks
Thank you Craig!
I’m extremely happy with my DMP-A8! Now in search for a power amp to complement it and replace my Roksan Atessa integrated. Perhaps Audiolab 8300XP, or any suggestion around $2,000? I believe that is the adequate price range to go with the DMP-A8…
Atoll AM300 (neutral to warm sound signature)
@@WoutervanderWeijst Thank you for the suggestion! It is in my shortlist and knowing it leans towards warm should be a plus especially with the Eversolo
Of course Kristi is the star of the show. She's the power behind the throne and retains an enigmatic quality with her non-appearance. You do ok too, Robinson 😊 P.S. Agreed, the. DMP-A8 is great and for sure my best ever VFM purchase.
👸😁
Thank you for using the small image of Kristi in the corner. Much more professional looking and excellent video overall.
Side note- just discovered the band The Warning…. Love them! Listen to Choke- Live! Wonderful rock music in 2024!
Great job,!
THANK YOU 😊
Does the Eversolo A8 have a video output so you can see as well as hear RUclipss?
Your answer is in this video. I'll even help.
14:43 IS IT REALLY HDMI?
Thanks for the note. It' seems that the Eversolo II2 port won't pass YoutTube video from the audio streamer. I do have a kludge solution (but it won't involve the Eversolo). My Sony X800M2 universal disc player has both HDMI audio and HDMI video outputs, and they conveniently snuck in a RUclips streamer as a bonus feature. So you can use the HDMI audio to go into your DAC and audio system and the HDMI video (from discs and RUclips) into any convenient HMDI display screen.
How’s the A8’s DAC compare to the Z8? Pairing Wiim Pro Plus with the Z8 better?
The A8 is the superior product through and through IMHO. I have not put a WiiM streamer on the Z8 so I can't get too specific.
@@andrewrobinsonreviews ♥️
I would love a silver one of these!
Miami Art Body Tape. All the hot models and the guy responsible doesn't fit. So funny you responded! Love your reviews.
We respond to as many comments as possible. Now I have to google this video.
Has PS Audio offered to send you any of their new speakers or equipment to review? I think they call is IS Squared, PS Audio uses it a lot.
Nope. We've tagged them on Instagram a half dozen times when viewers have asked during Q&As about a PSA review, where we've expressed interest if they wanted to connect.
@@andrewrobinsonreviewsI was going to ask the same question!
Would be nice for them to accept your interest.
I can't imagine a world where I would use Roon even if it were free
May I ask what about Roon makes you say that? Is it just the redundancy and cost, or do you dislike something else?
Love from up North.
eversolo dmp-a8 not a budget system. sigh
looking for a streamer for an 40 yo analogue 2 channel amp so a Wiim Pro Plus or the upcoming Ultra may be the go. In the meantime, will plug my phone into the system and play Amazon music.
I know it's much more expensive, but I'm going to go with the NAD M66 in the future. That thing is amazing!
I hope we get the opportunity to test it. I requested one a couple of weeks ago.
@@KristiWright I sure hope so. There aren't many unbiased reviews out there. I know you two would use it like I would.
@@KristiWright if you do get one, please go into some extra detail on the phono amp. Everyone else just glosses over it. Thanks!
Hi Guys,
Andrew I have to say I feel that your reviews are an honest review and not influenced by manufacture of the product you are reviewing.
I love this!
What format are we talking about?
I’m 54 and slow to catch on. Lol
For whatever it’s worth I very much enjoy the more Family reviews with husband and wife.
It adds a hint of sweetness and hominess
Unless you are all alone listening to music.
This is a reminder that it’s SO much nicer sharing things with a spouse.
❤
Love it!
Cheers,
Grant
Wait until you see the direct competitor of Eversolo: FIIO R9!
Never left. Still here😉
I2S is, for the people who believe in it, simply a better way to bring your music into your stereo system and out through your speakers. The believers of it say that the sound quality is superior to that of any other delivery system, for example, USB, coax etc.. what those unique differences are that make the sound “” better you’ll have to figure out for yourself
