I love the little grin whenever testing the volume. That is the thing i look for when he reviews instruments. If he smirks i know its a great tone and volume. For an instrument to spark joy with a single strum is fantastic.
Thanks for a great year of reviews and commentary. I've learned so much about ukuleles, both technical and aesthetic. I look forward to more. Let's all have a great 2022 playing ukuleles. Great tone on this Pono, by the way.
Thanks for an interesting and informative year! You are always my go-to source on all things ukulele. Wishing you and your family the very best in 2022!
Have a great 2022, this year has been made easier with great reviews of a host of Ukes . Agree with your point of view, Shame about the metal work as I like mango for its tone. I have a Pono MGCD which I love. Think if you really want a quality instrument then may be look at your recommended dealers. Just bought an Anuenue colour from a UK Uke specialist and it is superb on set up and quality. Happy New Year to all.
Knowing the two dealers in the UK who stock the aNueNue color - i automatically know you will have had good service. Happy new year - thanks for kind words!
Does sound lovely. I couldn't decide from the macro photos if this was a high-end uke or not. Now I understand what was going on 🙂 Thank you for all your reviews this year (I think I've bought 2 ukes this year having fallen in love with them following your reviews!) Stay safe too and Happy New Year!
I love how when I want to purchase a ukulele I can probably find an in depth review here with ukuleles from any brand or even the exact model. It's incredibly helpful! I was disappointed with one of my past uke purchases so I decided to get one of these with a gloss finish. I did overpay for a good set up and look over, but I did end up with good looking metal. I didn't have to shell out thousands and I feel I got a very good quality instrument.
I like it! Thanks Baz for the reviews through 2021. Really appreciate the time you give to this. In a year, when highs were few and lows were plentiful, a few minutes of intelligent discourse is a welcome balm. Wishing you, your family and indeed all fellow subscribers, a very happy, healthy and peaceful New Year. 👍
Thanks for the review and happy new year. Shame about the corrosion and the chunky neck. Does that mean their mother company/partner company (or however that works) Ko'olau have chunky necks as well? I feel like Ko'olau is the forgotten K-brand, I see the other three K-brands here and there online but not anything really from Ko'olau, I often forget about them.
Happy NewYear my friend! I really like this one. The sound is peppy almost like a soprano. I see what you mean about the metal work. It is a shame. This is one of the better ukuleles in my opinion that we had in the past few reviews. Great review as always ……. DOC
I have always found Ponos to be a great value when you compare the price to sound. It's a shame about the metalwork. The dealer sadly let Pono down. Shame on them! Happy New Year, Baz!
I bought a Pono a couple of years back based upon one of your reviews and I love the tone. However as you stated here my tastes hav3 changed and find the narrow G to A spacing difficult for me. I now use a KoAloha ukulele with 32 mm from G to A which works better for my hands. I also believe one of your reviews introduced me to the KoAloha brand so I have to thank you for leading me to great ukulele instruments. Looking forward to 2022, best to you and your family.
I have owned all ponos from soprano up to tenor still have my wee soprano and it’s going nowhere, everything you say I totally agree just how I feel about them but there is a but, we have to also look at where we are today with other brands like aNueNue and the likes of flight to name a few there all moving the ukulele on, be it sometimes for the good are bad all theses colour choices styles just small difference you get my drift, but Pono not really pushing that boat and I see that a problem, are they getting left behind maybe are are we just going to look at Pono as a great ukulele but I’m not going to run out and buy one straight away, like I ran straight out and bought a aNueNue UC 10 because it looked brilliant and I wanted it hanging on my wall and I needed it like a whole in the head having a Moon Bird but I had to have it
Love the sound of it. Shame it's tarnished. Unrelated question. How long would you give a uke to settle before you took care of sharp frets? It's winter here and boy do I have sprouting. Happy New Year!
Hello! I'm new to ukuleles, and I have just subscribed to your channel to learn more. I really appreciate your seemingly unbiased feedback, and I was even more thrilled to learn you're a fan of the Magic Fluke Company. I'm in the process of ordering a custom all black tenor Fluke as a special gift from my parents. Because I'm brand new, do you think it's silly I'm asking them to mark all the side frets? I just thought I'd need as much help as I can get! Thank you! Happy New Year, stay safe, and keep up the great work! Lexy
@@GotAUkulele thank you! I just didn't know if I was going overboard by asking them to mark every single fret? Also, I don't know that I'll ever have a use for a pickup, but I don't want to regret not getting one later on either. If I don't perform, do I really need one?
@@mnwormhickok4487 oh I don’t think having them on every fret makes sense. In fact no more helpful in finding your place than not having them at all as you will still need to count. The markers in usual places actually help you find position easier
Thanks for another great review Baz, and wishing you a very lovely & musical new year! Is there any way I can buy you a cuppa/hot chocolate/beer without needing a credit card?

Hmm for 350 this kind of looks quite lame really, I mean I bought and returned a laminate enya, not bad at all but the only reason I returned it was that for only 60 pounds more the fantastic enya mad ukulele tenor was at.. and hmm oh I dont even know if you have reviewed that instrument? have you by the way? the mad tenor size enya? the blueish one? Not arguing at all that I would know more than you about ukuleles I am just judging it based how it looks like and for 350 I expect something special.. It has to have that extra something Id say, like even cheaper ukes and cheaper guitars than this has more going for them visually .. I mean I am yet to uncover the aklot to understand what the hype is about xD but to be honest this looks like it could just be an aklot ukulele, it looks a bit boring, then again might be youtube low quality trolling me too xD have to take that into consideration .. And I am yet to hear how this sounds like as I was testing my girls stupid console headphones that you have to charge up for some stupid reason so cant hear any noise in them .. So have to watch this again so thats why im literally only judging how it looks like and 350 is a serious amount of money though .. Makes me really wonder how those fantastic Chinese ukulele companies like aklot for example what they would be able to get out with 350 pounds for a ukulele when they already have a superb one under 70.. just makes me wonder .. I have a feeling Klos makes the best ukuleles ... but they do look ugly in a way xD too so obviously its not how an instrument looks but how it plays its the attributes of something that is important .. Hmm. I said too much already xD Happy new year mate, make the first ukulele review 2022 an affordable one please, I suggest you should review the Donner Travel Ukulele btw if you can get your hands on one if you dont I have a suggestion .. Edit.. For 350 the sound was very disappointing..
Happy Hogmanay Baz - I hope 2022 delivers everything you need it to. Thanks for 2021, all the best. 😀

Ponos are nice, but interestingly you never see them here in Hawaii. Opios are MUCH more common in the midrange area.
