The first Popol Vuh album I bought back in the mid 80’s. While I was deeply impressed by the title track, „Vuh“ still is my favorite piece of music (like a quasi-religious experience) and will never be surpassed.

Hello, It's really gratifying to hear that this amazing music has the same cerebral effect on people like it does me.We all have different ways of putting this great music into words.Mine would be,off the top of my head, like walking into a very warm room after being out in the freezing cold.

Such a deep and original beginning for a band! An interpretation of the passage from the obscurity of pre-historic times to the birth of human first and great cultures is contained in Affenstunde and Garten... Popol Vuh, startin' by the choice of the name, is a great example of how music and human spirituality have the same root in the universe' origin and development...

Sometimes you hear music, and you simply cease to ask questions, pose answers. This is one of those pieces of music. You simply sit there, and let time cease to be- as Schopenhauer perhaps said, cease to be a plaything of the will in the face of true beauty...

this record is not the red or the.blue pill it is a third pill the key to a different state of mind. Timeless masterpiece of masterpieces.1971 could be 2112 as well. Such an experience created by Florian Fricke is almost inhuman considering from where he started. In 1971 it all was a blank page. He owned one of only two moogs in Germany which he sold to klaus schulze after this. pure legend he is.and will remain forever...

I guess I heard the first track in the record shop and didn't go any further. It wasn't easy to get to hear this music - these records were rare and expensive. You couldn't take a chance if you weren't sure. Get into this whist you still can - before commercial interests close it down.

Awesome. I've listened to this so many times. Only just noticed around 13:15: the guitar sounds a bit like early Santana over that gentle percussion which has been going for while. This is only meant to as praise to both, and indicates maybe a common influence like Jimi Hendrix’ gentler side, or Gabor Szabo? I have no idea. It is no more a criticism than noticing that Ash Ra Tempel, and Neu, for instance, also used beautiful found water sounds.
I always find something new in Gärten, even after years of listening. And then Vuh kicks in with that heavy organ from some other dimension…
Also love Popol Vuh's sound tracks with Werner Herzog, and the later, more acoustic pieces, but In Den Gärten Pharaos will likely always be my favorite.

I actually listen to a lot of vaporwave, which intentionally trades in low fidelity sounds, especially magnetic tape formats and your classic file compression losses. It is interesting to have a similar sort of filter placed on an album so serene and what feels like holy. Vaporwave has the intent of unholy copy paste distortion and nightmares, a copy of a copy of a copy like everything has been found on a shady street market in a back alley of an asian metropolis. This is just a compressed file, but that background noise, like bats and birds carrying on in the distance, adds another layer of eerieness to this album that I actually like... now if only the vinyl weren't so expensive...

This musical language didn't emerge from rock n roll. That's the whole point. That's the interest. Music makers in post-war Germany emerged with its own musical language like new architecture rising out of bombed cities.

Cosmopolitan-Citizen of the cosmos. I think a lot of the French and German prog. artists understood what it meant to be that. Their ambitions were international and aesthetic. Some of them also had social ambitions not out of line with the hippies or left-wing student militants. They were of their time, and might be of ours as well.
