Fond memories, my mother bought it for my birthday. I didn't tell her that short after, this album had became a must during acid parties wiyh my friends, at that time.
You must of had some cool friends! The people I was hanging out with and doing Acid with didn't appreciate this kind of music. They liked music that was totally Garbage to me.I wish I would've had friends that appreciated quality music!
The first Popol Vuh album I bought back in the mid 80’s. While I was deeply impressed by the title track, „Vuh“ still is my favorite piece of music (like a quasi-religious experience) and will never be surpassed.
Hello, It's really gratifying to hear that this amazing music has the same cerebral effect on people like it does me.We all have different ways of putting this great music into words.Mine would be,off the top of my head, like walking into a very warm room after being out in the freezing cold.
Such a deep and original beginning for a band! An interpretation of the passage from the obscurity of pre-historic times to the birth of human first and great cultures is contained in Affenstunde and Garten... Popol Vuh, startin' by the choice of the name, is a great example of how music and human spirituality have the same root in the universe' origin and development...
Popol Vuh are truly overlooked in the grand scheme of music in general. This record (the 2 prior) is a must have for any collection. A true masterpiece.

You couldn't take a chance if you weren't sure. Get into this whist you still can - before commercial interests close it down.
Too Late.. Some Dotard has put beats over this masterpiece and others have manipulated it so that its just rediculous. STOP KILLING MUSIC!!!! I Don't own any of that crap but I Do own every Popol Vuh Album and 100's of more classic electronica from the 70's to now but I do enjoy the early masters the best. If you spend enough time and research you can find good music buried beneath the Cardi B Bullshit and The Kanye West washed up drivel. Good Luck!!
Awesome. I've listened to this so many times. Only just noticed around 13:15: the guitar sounds a bit like early Santana over that gentle percussion which has been going for while. This is only meant to as praise to both, and indicates maybe a common influence like Jimi Hendrix’ gentler side, or Gabor Szabo? I have no idea. It is no more a criticism than noticing that Ash Ra Tempel, and Neu, for instance, also used beautiful found water sounds. I always find something new in Gärten, even after years of listening. And then Vuh kicks in with that heavy organ from some other dimension… Also love Popol Vuh's sound tracks with Werner Herzog, and the later, more acoustic pieces, but In Den Gärten Pharaos will likely always be my favorite.
Sorry but this NOT guitar but a Fender electric piano! The whole album has been recorded with Synthesizer [Moog], Organ, Electric Piano [Fender],Percussion [African, Turkish]
Somewhere deep in the mix on "Vuh" I also hear a bit of choir-organ, assumedly played by Jimmy Jackson. Could have been spliced in there from the same sessions that produced the music that ended up in Aguirre a few years later.
Got the cd a few years ago on Julian Cope’s recommendation .The beginning is creepy but love it .For some reason it reminds me of the old film (19600) based on HG Wells time machine, where humanity/society has disintegrated
