7 months is a long time but looking at the finished article it was well worth it. Can see what you meant by only using 1mm card for inner walls, still looks fab. Have subscribed to follow your further work. Excellent workmanship ! Cheers, Rick the Bulldog
Never tried to build anything like that, but yours does look very impressive. A nice gentle curve viewed from the inside, closes the gaps between vehicles, looking forward to seeing some trains over it.
Please carry on with with these inspiring video's. A long time ago (1981 - 1987) I lived in Leicester which an ever longer time ago had the Great Central railway running through it on a series of viaducts just like you've modelled. Just looks so great...
I have never watched someone make so many arches and I have loved it all, not got bored once. You make it look so easy Michael. Really looking forward to further builds. Regards Chris
Thank you Chris. I make it look easy!!? Haha. This one didn’t feel easy!! I’m in the process of making my next video - a really simple introduction to how I use Inkscape to help me do my builds. Hope you enjoy that one too!
Absolutely stunning.Sso much good advice and techniques that I can apply to my own, very simple viaduct. In fact, I bought two kits of Peco viaduct that could well stay in their boxes and appear on an internet auction site and build that one from scratch as well. All because of your great work. I really am blown away by the completed scene. Thanks for the video. Bob
Hi Michael, really enjoying watching you work. I am trying to figure out how you make the exterior brick arches and keystone. I am sure I saw you explain it somewhere, can you point me to the episode please? Many fhanks
Superb - what more can be said. The building method deployed has resulted in an extremely realistic city style viaduct. You should be really pleased with what you have produced. Looking forward to see what you tackle next on the layout. Cheers Euan
Thank you Euan! I am really happy with how it has turned out although as the builder, I can also see all of the mistakes and not-so-good bits! Road bridge next, which I will also use as the basis of a series of videos about how I use Inkscape as part of scratch building.
Wow! The effort was worth it, it really looks great! I haven’t got to the stage of having to scratch build anything yet and I certainly need to lay some track!!!! You have given me the inspiration for future scratch builds I have a couple in mind but until I get to that point it’ll have to wait. I love the Scalescenes kits and papers, I recently finished the freighter ship which was my first build and I think it looks fine. I really look forward to what you have planned for the future. Cheers John
The Scalescenes Freightligner ship looks amazing but I don’t think I will ever have somewhere to put one! Get paying your track and see what you come up with. I wish I’d taken more care with my track. It’s not the best. I was impatient to get on with the buildings.
lol, yes I want to do all the nice stuff first! Although building a couple of things gives a perspective on things. Track laying will take time as I do want to get it as good as I can. Cheers for now John
what an outstanding video i do enjoy watching people who can scratch build as i don't have the patience or skill but watching this video was a treat an absolute joy to see you at work. the months of hard wor shows and the end result is fabulous very well done stay safe all the best al 🙋♂️😁😁😁👍👍👍👍
Brilliant - an absolutely superb result and the whole build has been a great watch. You should be extremely proud of what you've achieved there. It seems anticipation is high for what you're going to create next. Best wishes, Ian
Thank you Ian. I am happy with the result of the viaduct... just hope what comes next is also good! I’m starting a road bridge now. Based on one near me which happens to be one of the oldest bridges in England too!
Great video! As I also model N-gauge. this has certainly given me food for thought and will make me look deeper into the scale scene stuff and how it can be adapted using your techniques. Keep up the good work!
The end result is simply amazing. A great video and love the backing track. Love the Scale scenes products having purchased several of their kits myself. Keep up the great work
Thank you Wayne. I’m really pleased with how the viaduct has turned out. I’m looking forward to building something other than arches, but the next project is one last bridge!
What a stunning piece of work - all scratchbuilt using cheap materials, too. You've certainly inspired me, but I'm afraid my modelling ablitiy isn't a patch on yours, but a joy to watch you work nonetheless. P.S. looking forward to your instructional for using Inkscape in model making.
Thank you Paul. Yes, card and PVA is dirt cheap. Probably the most expensive part of the build is the printer ink. Inkscape tutorial coming up very soon. Starting with the absolute basics but following me along with everything I use it for.
Hi, Fascinating to watch this, I really need to get my head round Inkscape and some of the techniques you've applied here. Starting simple with some arched retaining walls. One question I have is, that the wrap arounds in the brick texture that you use to line the outside of the arch, did you colour them separately?, they are of course darker than the brown brick used on the inside (if that makes sense).
Hi Alan, glad it was helpful! Well spotted on the wrap arounds. I showed the technique I used for these in this video: ruclips.net/video/C_rRZbk6Y7k/видео.html and also this one ruclips.net/video/KGA_vIMxXLs/видео.html ... So if you give those a quick watch, then hopefully they will answer your questions. If not... let me know and I will do my best to answer! Many thanks, Michael.
@@Chandwell perfect I will watch those tonight.... I'd never given ashlar a glance before either but I think it's perfect for my arched retaining walls.. thanks once again
You've given me ideas on how I will approach my.viaduct. Is there a reason why you didn't do the walls underneath before you glued it in place? Leaving just the front and back to install? Craig
Thank you. I can’t remember why I chose to do it what way. It may have been because I wanted the inside walls to butt up flush with the front/rear faces but I could have done that anyway. So I’m afraid I can’t say if there was a really good reason, or if it was just the way I seemed to think I should do it!
I tried it once but I ended up giving it away. I am not accurate enough with my initial placements and it always dried too fast. I ended up throwing so many components away that were not aligned properly, I went back to just using PVA. PVA is a lot cheaper too, you can get a litre for less than one small bottle of Rocket!
I love that you are using the Video Chapters. I find them a very helpful tool for viewers.
Thank you! Yeah, the chapters are a really good feature aren’t they? I hope they come to mobile soon.

Thank you! I’ll be sure to add some trains on it to the June update video!
It was very interesting to see how you overcame the many challenges with what I think was a very ambitious project.
Regards Robert
Thank you Robert. I hope you found something interesting!
What a great build, looks very realistic. Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thank you Dave. I’m glad you liked it. Onwards to another project now...
Thank you you have solved my problem fantastic work 👏

Thank you, I will! I have often noticed a similarity between my viaduct and the Leicester one. Thanks for watching!
really good layout I love the bridge and the arches so good
Thank you Brian! :) Michael.
Really good, another great build that look so real. Really enjoy watching it.
Thank you - I am pleased you like the build
Fantastic work. Its great to see other people great scratch building. Keep up the great work. look forward to your future video's
Thank you John. I have really enjoyed building the viaduct. Onto another bridge next. Watch this space!
something to be proud of, thats superb! subbed
Thank you Jon! And thank you for subscribing. Never thought I’d get near 500 subscribers! I still have a LOT more building to do!

Hi Charlie… I don’t think I’ve ever shown this. I’ll add it to a future video. Good idea.

I recorded that bit somewhere different to the bit before it. I should have re-recorded both bits I think.
Try Roket glue, designed for card, very fast
