    None shall sleep,
    None shall sleep!
    Even you, oh Princess,
    In your cold room,
    Watch the stars,
    That tremble with love
    And with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
My name no one shall know,
    No... no...
On your mouth, I will tell it,
    When the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
    Vanish, o night!
    Set, stars! Set, stars!
    At dawn, I will win!
    I will win!
    I will win!
That is the english translation. It is traditionally sung in it's original language

Pavarotti was from Modena, Italy & sang professionally for 51 years, from the age of 20 until just before his death at age 71 (1955-2006). Over the years, he became the favorite opera tenor of all time to many around the world. This aria was from the opera “Turandot”. It is sung by Calaf, the forgotten prince, about Princess Turandot. Everyone in the kingdom wanted her hand in marriage, but in order to obtain it, one had to correctly answer three riddles. If he failed, he was beheaded. This song is essentially one of Calaf’s love, devotion & determination to win the princess’s heart, come hell or high water. This was an excellent video. Don’t feel bad for being touched the way you were. Luciano has done that to many, & continues to do so even in death. It’s rare that an artist has the passion and talent required to make people feel on that level, even when they do understand the lyrics, let alone when they don’t. He truly was a spectacle to behold. If you liked this (& it definitely looks like you did), he has many others I’m sure you’ll enjoy too. Ave Maria, Finiculi Funicula, Caruso, La Donna é Mobile, Libiamo Ne’lieti Calici, O Sole Mio... you really can’t go wrong. Let yourself go down that rabbit hole. You won’t be disappointed. ✌🏼

It was a pleasure to see you enjoying that much. Pavarotti is singing in Italian on this track. He died in 2007 from pancreas cancer. In my opinion, no other tenor sang better than him ever, and I was born in an opera singer's family. I started listening to tenors from my early youth (3-4 years old) and I am 68. I never got tired to listen to Pavarotti. At this concert, he did set the bar so high that it will take very long before someone else can keep the last note so long and with so much expression. You were amazing and amazed in front of 'perfection' my dear. And let's not forget the aria in and of itself: Puccini composed so many wonderful operas and arias, and this one is one of the bests, artistic, moving, a victory song!. Keep enjoying!

    Tu pure, oh Principessa
    Nella tua fredda stanza
    Guardi le stelle che tremano
    D'amore e di speranza
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
    Il nome mio nessun saprà
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò
    Quando la luce splenderà
    Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia
    (ll nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)
    Dilegua, oh notte!
    Tramontate, stelle!
    Tramontate, stelle!
    All'alba vincerò!
    Vincerà!
    Vincerò!

Unfortunately Pavarotti died in 2007 but he lives on in our hearts. His voice is magical and touches your soul. He had the talent to bring opera to the masses. The aria "Nessun dorma" reached the pop charts, when he sang it at the first of the 3 Tenors concerts 1990 in Rome. The legendary event took place the evening bevor the soccer world cup final. It was worldwide live broadcasted and was the biggest success in the history of classical music until today. On the occasion of the next world cup 1994 the 3 tenors Carreras, Domingo and Pavarotti repeated their concert in L.A.. Your clip belongs to this concert. In 1998 they gave the next big concert in Paris. Perhaps you like to hear another expressive aria from 1998 with english subtitles: "Caruso" ruclips.net/video/iDEdZfnULIg/видео.html
By the way here comes the wikipedia info to Nessun dorma: is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot (text by Giuseppe Adami and Renato Simoni) and one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera. It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto (the unknown prince), who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. Any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded. In the aria, Calaf expresses his triumphant assurance that he will win the princess.

I am so sad that you had such a natural strong reaction at the end there and then you absolutely robbed yourself of that emotional full intensity by stopping it right before the most intense next step. Even though it still gets anyone even after hearing that specific performance 100 times, the absolute magic is hearing it for the first time uninterrupted specifically at the end. Good reaction, but with one of the most important voices in human history, you let the man sing, feel EVERYTHING completely, then react. If not, you completely miss out on exactly HOW intense that emotional hit can be.

Please react to the song "Caruso" sung by Luciano Pavarotti. The writer of this song, Lucio Dalla (from Bologna, northern Italy), wrote this while staying in one of the rooms where Enrico Caruso, former famous tenor (From Neaples, southern Italy), spent the final days of his life. Caruso was 48-years-old when he died, and a few years before Caruso died, he married Dorothy Park Benjamin who was 20 years younger. They had a baby girl they named Gloria. Lucio Dalla wrote this song while imagining how Caruso, who knew he was dying, would have said goodbye to his young wife - the love of his life.
curiosity: in sicilian dialect the word caruso means (ragazzo) boy.

We all cry when we hear this, though it is not a sad song. The passion with which it is sung is what grabs us by the throat and makes the tears flow.
The king has offered his beautiful daughter's (Turandot's) hand in marriage to the man who can solve three riddles. In the meantime none in the town will sleep until they know who that man is. Any who try and fail will be beheaded.
He (the part played by Pavarotti) asks the sun to set so the sun will rise for him to give the answers and HE WILL WIN! He will WIN!
It is a song of hope, commitment and victory. Keep that in mind ... and you'll cry again.

That smile says everything. You really don’t need the translation, just feel the expression and the emotion in the music. That is opera. Opera is actually a bit silly when you translate it. He is breathing from his diaphragm. He is supporting his voice from that big muscle under the tummy called the diaphragm. Note that an opera singer shoulders don’t go up and down when they sing and breathe. They breathe from way down in the diaphragm, not the chest. That way he can push those notes up and out as you were told. Remember he’s a master at it. He did it for a long long time.

This reaction is so beautiful! I love this performance, too! Whenever I listen to it, my heart starts beating faster cuz this opera brings me wonderful emotions & vibes that i can't describe. Sadly, Luciano died 13 years ago 😔, but he's still alive in our hearts and in our memories. I'm also italian, so i can understand & translate the lyrics. It says:
    Nobody sleeps
    Nobody sleeps
You too, princess. You look up at the stars that tremble of love and hope.
But my mystery is stuck in me, no one will ever know my name, no no, i'm going to say it on your mouth when the light will shine.
And my kiss will melt the silence which makes you mine.
Choir: no one will ever know his name, and sadly we'll have to die, die
Vanish, night. Set, stars. Set strars. At sunrise i'll win, i'll win, i'll win.
    👍🏼💜

The song's words are the following: Nessun dorma
    Nessun dorma
    Tu pure, o Principessa
    Nella tua fredda stanza
    Guardi le stelle
    Che tremano d'amore
    E di speranza
Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me
Il nome mio nessun saprà, no, no
    Sulla tua bocca lo dirò
    Quando la luce splenderà
    Ed il mio bacio scioglierà
Il silenzio che ti fa mia
    (Il nome suo nessun saprà
E noi dovrem, ahimè, morir, morir)
    Dilegua, o notte
    Tramontate, stelle
    Tramontate, stelle
    All'alba vincerò
    Vincerò
    Vincerò
    No one sleeps
    You too, oh Princess
    In your cold room
    You look at the stars
    That tremble with love
    And with hope
But my mystery is locked inside me
No one will know my name, no, no
On your lips I will say it
    When the light shines
    And my kiss will dissolve
The silence that makes you mine
(No one will know his name
And we must, alas, die, die)
    Disappear, oh night

No, he is no longer with us,unfortunately! He is singing about a night...and I think we can assume that a romantic interest is involved. The title means "let no one sleep." Can I also suggest Javier Camarena singing "Ah mes Amis" In this clip he has just sung the song with 9 high C's and the audience went a little crazy asking for an encore... and he obliges! (18 high c's...remarkable!)
