    The worst one wasn’t even in this clip, the bases loaded strike not called when Wainwright dropped it in to Judge was disgraceful

      More than a few in the stands glancing occasionally at the game on their cells and seeing the bad calls. I'm surprised that the word doesn't get passed around and the crowd chants (for Hickox... and other umps) "Umpire sucks! Umpire sucks!"

      I’m a Yankees fan and I agree. I think that might actually be the worst-called game I’ve ever seen.
      Yes, imho mlb should absolutely get digital umpires. What fricking year is this?! There’s no reason for mistakes any more.

      The video seems to be only bad strike calls. The one from Wainwright to Judge was a ball call.

    Everyone dunking on Ed, do this. Get a long history of head injuries, go umpire in high heat and humidity and see what happens. I guarantee you won’t be perfect.

    This whole season has been one of the worst seasons I've ever seen by home plate umpires. And this game by Ed Hickox is the worst I've seen all year. It seems like the umpires don't care about anything but a paycheck anymore because they know they're next up to get replaced by robots. It's been especially frustrating for big guys like Judge and Stanton getting called strikes on low and inside pitches, it's been killing them all year.

      @tigerdg1 Год назад +1

      You may be right. But making multiple bad calls like Hickox did in this video is one way to insure that they get replaced by robots. They don't want that to happen? Do a better job!

    Did anyone notice how heavy Ed was breathing and half faded he seemed when Boone was arguing with him?? Bro, the man is 60yrs old, wearing multiple layers of gear with temps near 100 in the Midwest...and he's gotta stand 4hours straight. He was NOT doing well healthwise

      He's also had quite a few head injuries from being hit by the ball, which actually happened to him again in the top of the 8th inning.

    I guess that shot to the face mask has given him a "new" perspective on the strike zone.

    That was probably one of worst-called games by a home plate umpire in a while. In his defense though, it was ridiculously hot in St. Louis that day, and he did not look comfortable behind the plate at all. The game lasted almost 4 1/2 hours, which is very rare for a 9 inning game. He may have been dehydrated or something, but in any case, he had no business umpiring home plate in that game, and it showed. He also called a Cardinals runner out at home plate that was overturned on review because he was safe. I do have to show him some sympathy though because he almost collapsed in the 8th inning of the game, and fortunately Molina (Cardinals catcher) was able to react quickly and catch him before it happened. That aside, he missed several calls against both teams, and it wasn’t just bad strike calls, but also some bad “ball calls” such as the Wainwright pitch to Judge. In the end, the net effect is that the umpire calls seemed to give the Cardinals about a +3 runs advantage of the course of the game, and the final was Cardinals 12, Yankees 9. I’m happy the Cardinals won, but no team should get that much of an “advantage” in “net runs” through the umpiring.

      This wasn’t even all of it, Waino had two or three pitches CLEARLY in the zone called ball. Ump got smoked with a foul ball later in the game and almost had to come out. Yadi had to catch him to keep him from hitting the ground.

      Have you taken time to go watch some of the videos of the Robo ump. For everyone that wishes that you have a Robo ump. Am I gonna make a prediction a year after Robo ump comes there’s gonna be a lot of yelling about wanting it gone. Calling strikes that bounce across home plate, making a call on a strike that was definitely a ball more than two seconds after the ball cross the plate. Or not calling strikes on pitches that go across the plate. And I’ve seen it through the videos. Everyone’s dream is about to turn into a nightmare when Robo ump comes
