When we are in hard circumstances, our natural human tendency is to seek ways to resolve them. At times, we fret and worry, seek advice from others, and search diligently for answers. Only after everything fails do we turn to God in prayer. As we grow spiritually, however, we should learn the importance of looking first to God. We must know the value of stopping and turning things over to Him.
Sometimes God uses the most unusual circumstances to bring His servants to comply with His loving will! In the fury of the storm and the disruption of the fish's belly, God’s love for Jonah is brilliantly reflected in Jonah’s prayer in chapter two. Jonah’s deliverance from storm and fish is God’s love in action. Sometimes that love leads through hard times, but our God can be trusted (Bible Expositor and Illuminator Union Gospel Press, Fall Quarter 2024).
