Very nice, can't wait to see full veggies and other plants!!
April Wilkerson hi, I am just wondering if you went to school for carpentry or something or if you’re self taught. You’re genius, April!
You are an inspiration April! I am old enough to be your grannie and think you are awesome!
I can't pinpoint what it's about but April has this super friendly demeanor, I can't get enough of. Thanks for another video! Stay safe :)
Country girls/women. Tough as nails, attractive inside and out - down to earth and can do anything they set their mind to. They also usually don't get their opinion... usually form it on their own. I know this is a generic statement and doesn't apply or not apply to all folks from the country (or the city)... but generally speaking - it's more "on" than off.
because she's a Texas girl, that's how we are.
She can't grow her own food. If you live in some place like LA or NYC, she's got you covered.
The way that this video was shot made it feel like it could be a segment on TV. Very professional with amazing video and audio. And of course, April's expert woodworking.
love you’re videos april! i’ve been watching your videos ever since you were building them stairs outside your old house. i’m a 17 year old and you influenced me a lot!! thank you so much !
I'm a furniture maker in Northern California. My wife and I love your designs. Great video.
Smart to put in the center brace , I didn't and now mine bows. I really enjoy your show !
Hey April just wanted say as a long time sub, that I have a mass playlist of projects I Intend to do once I own a home thanks to your channel. Thank you so much and I hope all is going well!
ArtsOfWarfare hello
Kudos to you for all the hard work. You did a good job. I don't agree with the research you did on pressure treated lumber used in garden beds - soil contact and absorptions etc., even if you used soil contact PT and not just the standard off the shelf PT (don't trust everything you read). Again, kudos for all the work and quality of the work you have done, but I think it is more effort and funds than a simpler more practical plan would give. Plastic or any laying system give ants / insects and mold a home. We all know what they are capable of. I don't know if you stain over PT lumber before it dried but allow PT to dry before staining if you don't already know this. In short, its over kill, but looks great and a job well done.
Hi April this is a great project speaking from personal experience from someone who had their own gardening/landscaping business. Raised garden beds are wonderful to work in and also save your back whilst doing it. Thank you for the free plans which I am going to use to make my adorable grandson a sandpit.
Today is April 30th 2020. Today I have a new hero!!! Lady you are amazingly smart and so inspiring! Thank you so much. Idea for the name of your raised garden... Heaven on Earth.
Sincerely,
Trini from Arizona
Your videos are very educational. Thank you. Take care and be safe.
Very nice job April. We use scaffold boards cut to the width of the beds, so you can easily plant across the bed without standing on the soil. A standard scaffold board is also a good spacer between rows, after planing one row, simply flip it over and plant the next row on the other side. Happy gardening.
good work I am from Iraq I like your working thanks
I used a black plastic pond liner which I perforated at the bottom for drainage.Never had a problem and the bed still looks good eight years on.
It's crazy to think how far you have come. I have been watching you since the beginning and you have definitely honed your skill. Lol I remember you doing projects and having to make adjustments.
Nice stab technique with starting the screws at 2:59 works great!
every video of yours so far I keep thinking to myself. "the rocky soil, the live oaks, the invasive ash junipers. This looks like Texas!" glad to finally hear that I wasn't just being crazy.
I'm not into gardening by any stretch of the imagination, but just came to see April's beautiful smile. Regards.
Loving your builds...and viewing your positive Go *get it done* attitude !!
Aprils confidence is refreshingly contagious 😎👍💖
WOW!! What a wood shop
Gravel underneath and around the bottom of the timber helps keep water from sitting against the timber and hence prolong the life of the timber that bit more as well.
April wilkerson !!! Felicitaciones genia!!!
Thank you for the subtitles, very helpful for who don't understand english.
One of the best diy channels I've subscribed to. April's tips are so cool, and I can't find any flaws or room for improvements in her methods and plans. Is she a genius? Definitely smarter than me. Lol
I don't know what I would want more, her shop, her garden or her, all three are absolutely gorgeous and all would be a dream to have. Always look forward to the videos. Even have one of her fraction to decimal conversion charts on my shop wall, comes in handy.
I have to say I've watched a lot of DIY gardening type videos on youtube but your raised beds are the coolest and most impressive design I've ever seen.
Well done you did an amazing job
Glad you like them! Thanks!
I like your projects and I enjoy watching you work. Even your voice is very nice to hear.
I wish you every continued success, April. 👍
Someone has upped their video production game as well... Nicely done!
I use Simple Strap for the same thing! I picked up a load of cedar and and used these. The guys were amazed by it. Way easier than ratchet straps!
You're the energizer bunny of makers. You make a good plan and then execute it efficiently.
So happy to see where this channel has come since I first started watching. Well done AW
April, that is a Texas size garden for sure, Awesome.
Love your garden beds, stay safe, stay healthy to and Your family
Quick tip, if applicable always screw or nail the thinner piece of material ,this being wood, to the thicker piece for a stronger connection.
Really fantastic work, April! 😃
My mother gets all the wood dust and chips I make to use to make compost. You know? With things like rest of food, fruits and so on. And that stuff is amazing to a planter like that! 😃
Maybe I make a planter for her as well!.. I want some carrots, I LOVE carrots! 😬
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Great project April! That came together so nice
I'm always so jealous of that awesome shop and assortment of tools you've put together over the years. There's no pleasure like having the right tool for the right job!
I know! Me too! I'm looking at that tractor and thinking.. "I wish I had one of those! And the land to drive one one."
This is really cool! My wife and I have been talking about trying a raised garden but hadn't looked into building anything yet. Now, if I could just afford to build the enclosure like yours to keep the deer out.
@@tailgatecarpenter26 Thanks for the suggestion!
Good work, as usual. However, according to my research, the plastic liner actually traps moisture next to the wood, speeding up the rot process. Instead, with my timber raised beds, I protected the inside the beds with a non-toxic wood stabilizer and stained the outside (with both products wrapping around the corners of each side timber to meet where they won't be visible). I also recommend either lining the floor of the entire bed structure with hardware cloth, or placing a perimeter of vertical hardware cloth or metal sheeting in the ground around the entire structure to ensure that critters don't burrow into your beds. Happy gardening, April!
Amazing. You have made everything you need to have your own farm/woodshop!
Love watching your videos. You do great job on all your work
Wow, wow, wow this is just stunning and what a dream!
Nicely done! I plan on doing this on a smaller scale pretty soon.
Looking forwards to the irrigation side of it
Another great video. You putting the plans online it such a helpful tool! Thank you for all that you teach everyone! And also for just being a great human being.
Looking good!
I loved your job, congratulesion , Morelia , Mich. Mex.
I like the layout of this garden, the exterior fence could double as a trellis for climbing plants.
I would love to see you make an Aquaponics Garden. Year round vegetation
Irfan Ali In Texas year round growing seems possible with a conventional garden.
The production value was excellent with this one. Very well done!
Really cool but I wish I had known you were going to add to the middle and I would have suggested a raised 3-5ft high pond in the center. Simple to do and adds a whole different form of gardening.
Nice garden beds!Simple, fresh and functional. Yes, dirt will push like crazy on the lumber from the inside out.
NIcE home you have in the background 7.25!
Looking good, very nice project! Once it's grown some use the chickens for pest control. Be safe and thanks for sharing. Beach, NC
Outstanding job 👍
I'm planning on making a 16' x 8' raised garden bed and was looking for tutorials.Great tutorial as usual. Thanks for sharing your expertise and plans!
Pressure treated lumber is rated for high moisture/marine environments and ground contact but what many people may not realize is that after making a cut through the lumber - all cut ends should be retreated with an application of End Cut Sealer in order to ensure the integrity of the product's rot resistance and to maintain the lumber's warranty. Yes, as crazy as it sounds, pressure treated lumber does have a warranty. A well know and trusted brand of end cut sealer is called: Cut N Seal if you are interested.
What an amazing garden space.
Looking amazing, look forward to seeing more of your new garden. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey. Be careful and safe. God bless you and your family.
I always enjoy your videos. I found the camera work on this video to be awesome on this video. (I'm not a camera person at all btw) I'm pretty sure you recently hired someone new to help shoot your videos. Well it shows! You're doing a great a job and thank you for all the excellent ideas and content!!
Nice happy space
Superbe travail !! Avec ce confinement je viens de découvrir vos vidéos et vos travaux ! Bravo à vous !!
Nice on reaching the 1mil mark, I remember watching when you were at 200k subs. Sniff sniff, "they grow up so fast"
lol, i found this channel when researching french cleats, just checked Aprils video history & that was 6 years ago .. 6 years WTF
I just LOVE your garden! Thanks so much for sharing April!
One of the benefits of raised beds is that you should be able to reach the middle without stepping up in it. That would normally mean about three feet wide.
Yep. I’ve done several generations of raised beds. First was four 4x12 beds made of 1x12 boards; they fell apart in a couple of years and were a pain to reach the middle. Second generation is four 3x8 beds made of 2x12 cedar, much sturdier and easier to manage and they survived a move from one house to another. Third generation will be to raise these beds up about 3 feet and put bottoms on them to again make them easier to reach. That’ll be a project for this fall when the growing season is over. Might raise two of the beds only 2 feet instead of three and grow taller stuff in the shorter beds.
BTW I’m a big fan of Mel Bartholomew’s Square Foot Gardening system.
I was just going to post this. This size is not optimal. Would have been better to build 2 three for beds or 2 1/2 foot beds. One four foot her max if you want to push it.
Always love your videos. FWIW, I used to use 1x or 5/4 for beds, but found it only lasted a few years before rotting from the inside out. I'm nowadays going with 2x material - which also helps with bowing of the material. Of course you could also cedar ($$$), but I likewise use PT wood (much safer than it used to be). My standard is to go with a 4'x10' box that's ~24" tall (3 2x8' boards high). I likewise add little 3/4 tall rim ledges, but only on two sides. 10' boxes also mean that 3/4 EMT (in 10' lengths) work perfectly as a trellis framework, and I use 7x3.5 concrete rebar wire mesh for easy to add / remove trellising for tomatoes, cukes, etc. -Best wishes!
Похвальное трудолюбие и удивительная целеустремленность в сочетании с профессионализмом при выполнении вами любых работ, рождает во мне лишь одно чувство, назвать Вас - Удивительной женщиной!
The garden looks great. This is decidedly on my list. Thanks!
Nicely done, I really like the tall raised beds around the inside of the enclosure along with the enclosure itself. Another plus the gophers could not reach the outside beds.
You know I'd bet that garden would be easy to convert into a winter time greenhouse.
Your video editor is awesome!! The transitions, voice before next cut, and slow mo are awesome. Love the new groove!
Glad you like it!
Really enjoyed this video! Very relaxing watch and makes me want to start gardening. Great tips too when cutting the boards.
Would be cool to see a diy green house with a foundation sometimes in the future :)
agreed. maybe hydroponics in a greenhouse.
OcRefrigeration , Hvac & Electrical Video's. Or aquaponics. That’d give you protein (fish) along with the veggies. I’m setting up a hydroponic system in a spare bedroom in my house to get fresh organic produce year round. If I had more space I might do aquaponic system and sell/gift the fish as I’m mostly vegetarian.
May the safe grow and fruit the plant
I have garden envy
Good job April, nice looking gardening area. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred
Was going to ask what you chose to do about irrigation. Looking forward to that video :)
Used your design but with some Amish sawmill rough cut lumber and different sized raised beds but they came out fantastic.
Awesome! Sounds great! Thank you for sharing and for watching.
@@AprilWilkerson
Thank you. I found your raised beds videos from watching you build one of your workbenches. I wanted to try woodworking but I just can't come up with the space for a shop. That's why I enjoyed making these beds. I also considered a design by Kings woodworking. But these boards are heavy even after sitting for a year. It's Pennsylvania pine and Hemlock boards. Your design looks great and was not difficult to assemble by myself. Ok I won't bug ya anymore lol.
Great work! Thanks for taking the time to make, film, edit and share
Your garden beds are absolutely AMAZING! I love them so much! Keep up the excellent work!
Great job! You should add a pergola to cover the top so you can grow some bougainvilleas would be a cool project..
It looks great well done, take care and stay safe.
That’s a great raised bed garden idea. We love it. Thanks 👍👍👍❤️
I watched the Magnolia channel preview yesterday and my immediate thought was that you (April) should be on their new channel. You'd be perfect for that channel.
That's the kind of garden perimeter I need to keep Moose out!
April, I've had raised beds for over 20 yrs now, the problem is tilling at the end of the year. The older we get, the much more difficult.
I’m sure your still a beast Dave!
Maybe try a small Mantis type tiller. Many string trimmers are attachment capable.
frist class job done there april keep up the good work love it
Timely video given the social distancing and lockdowns. People will have way more time to garden and be more self sufficient. I see the fence - to keep 4 or 2 legged critters out?
I take it you have no issues with termites. I had to go with concrete blocks in subtropical Japan.
So envious, I wish i had the space to do this stuff in my suburbia neighborhood lol
Sehr schön
Dankeschön fürs Zeigen
Since your first video of making the raised gardens i've wondered how you keep some critters from climbing up and into your garden? Possibly stretching some type of netting over the top?
Beautiful
Nicely done 👍👍👍Thanks for sharing. Now put the chicken coop near the garden and make a chicken run around the garden. It would be awsome.
Nice shop and project
Great work!!!
Thank you!
Very Nice April!
Nice job! I enjoyed watching the video!
Its that checky smile
You folks in Texas must have long arms to be able to reach to the center of those raised beds to plant, weed and harvest.
...Everything is Bigger in Texas...
;D
Agreed. I appreciate how nice these look in relation to the rest of the enclosed space, but to get to anything in the middle, you would have to step into it and compact the soil, something you really shouldn't do in a raised bed.
Or you just have oddly short arms
Since those central beds are not very high, April can place boards (walking planks) in between her plants when she wants to access them.
