I have been saying this for YEARS. American Chinese and British Chinese are just as valid Chinese cuisines as Szechuan, Cantonese, or Hunan. They’re just geared towards different consumers. To say one is more authentic than the other really undermines the work that Chinese immigrants have put into creating these dishes.
Just as a heads up.if any of y'all visit the US the best Chinese restaurants are rated 3.5 stars otherwise they try to hard on atmosphere or it's a bit dirty
Like Panda Express, it is absolutely authentic, as it was developed by a chinese family for Western palettes. The family owns every restaurant in North America.
My favorite appetizer are steamed Dumplings. I usually judge the quality of the Dumplings as to how good the rest of the meal will be. Outstanding Chinese restaurants in the US almost always have amazing steamed Dumplings.
Fried wontons usually have a sweet & sour dipping sauce and crab rangoon comes by itself. In some places, the sauce for General Tso's and Orange Chicken has the same base and they add the orange peels or the peppers later when they separate the batches. I've accidentally gotten oragne chicken, expecting Tso's, and I only knew because I bit into an orange peel.
You should try the American sweet and sour chicken. Most places will have sweet and sour pork too. Idk how it compares to British but it's delicious IMO
Nah you need them to take you to their Chinese spot because the “label” foods are not the only options. All the takeaways are clearly the same thing. There is no preconfigured takeout here in the US

They typically come with a sweet sour or duck sauce and hot mustard. I’ve never had a restaurant give crab Rangoon without any sauces.
