I don't think they were necessarily saying she stayed because of the checks. I DO think tho they were implying she is a gold digger by saying she didn't know the man necessarily, but that she saw the money. Which is pretty much not too far out of the same ballpark and is just as bad as saying she stays for the money. So, not necessarily the same exact statement that seems to be what Envy heard, but still the same implication from what they actually did say.
Also, when you imply any man's wife is a gold digger, you are also insulting the man by association as if he's a fool for being with her as if he either is too blind to see she's a gild digger or he is desperate and is holding on to save face or some other reason that essentially makes him a loser.

It didn’t attack his wife, they made a comment saying that she didn’t have a good reason to stay with him outside of the money. People have this same assumption and make the comments publicly everyday. Also I have heard worse comments come from The Breakfast Club interviews from all three hosts and then had the guests on their shows afterwards. And when called out by the guests, they attempt to make little of their comments. Neither one of them should have apologized, he over reacted. Families should be off, but if TBC hosts abide by that policy too then they can demand that of others.
