I always love how they use the imagery of smoke and fire in this episode and how it connects all the past flashback scenes to the present The flashbacks of the prison burning the smoke from the burning cabin burning Karen and David’s bodies then the current day scene of Daryl burning the Walkers bodies all connecting to We ain’t ashes and Carol’s comments about being burned away all these details are so great such an Amazing episode.
I think this episode gives both necessary understanding to Carol’s emotional state and also shows Daryl’s unique way of caring for people plus his loyalty to fight for people he loves to the bitter end For me Daryl being a total badass is so really cool but it’s this side of him that makes him my favourite.
You may already know this now, but Daryl is the one who saw and took the book on treating survivors of childhood abuse. It fell out of his bag, but it happened so quickly it was hard to tell for sure. You're not the only reactors/viewers who weren't certain. But it was confirmed in interviews with the actors and writers. It was a sign to us that Daryl recognized his childhood abuse still affected him in many ways, and he wanted to work on healing that trauma. I think that's part of him "trying."
Yvette Nicole Brown pointed out on Talking Dead that all the fires in the past were associated with Carol while all the fires in the present were associated with Daryl. This coincides with Daryl saying "We ain't ashes"
Daryl and Carol are both survivors of abuse His and Merle’s dad her husband Ed I think people forget the reason for their incredibly strong bond When they were rescued by her at Terminus and Daryl ran to hug her it was a reinforcement of two people who IRL would never know each other yet in The Zombie Apocalypse quite almost symbolic.
Grady Memorial Hospital which is where Beth is can actually be seen in the background at the beginning of the first episode of Season 2 when Rick is giving his final message to Morgan on the radio.
Some interesting easter eggs and behind-the-scenes info for this episode: 1) As you noticed, the nighttime shot where Daryl and Carol are driving into Atlanta mirrors the Season 1 daytime shot of Rick riding the horse into Atlanta. 2) "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" is the book Carol read to the children at the prison and that Mika, Lizzie and Carol talked about when they were walking on the train tracks. (Not sure, but I also think we saw it in her bag in 5x1, right before she went to attack Terminus.) Just as she and Daryl are about to leave the women's shelter, the camera shows us that Carol is still carrying the book in her bag. 3) As they leave the women's shelter and run across the street, we get a quick glimpse of a tank in the background. It's the tank where Rick was trapped at the end of the show's very first episode. 4) While filming the van scene, the first van they pushed off the bridge landed upside down. So did the second one. For the third attempt, they brought in a crane, dangled the van out over the side of the bridge, and dropped it straight down. It finally landed upright. lol 5) The Morley cigarettes Daryl was smoking is a fictional brand used in several TV shows, most notably in "The X-Files." 6) When they filmed the scene where Daryl reacted to Carol getting hit by the car, "Daryl" kept easily breaking free from "Noah's" grip. So Norman Reedus told the actor who played Noah to use all his strength to hold him back, because he was going to use all his strength to try to break free. Because they were both playing it for real, they wound up falling backwards onto the hard marble floor. Ouch! lol
Season 5 Episode 6 "Consumed" is another very solid episode of TWD. *STANDOUT MOMENT* I absolutely LOVED the moment we get when Carol is waiting on Daryl to break into the shelter and we get to hear all the walkers beginning to wake and stir inside the city. The amount of creepiness and danger was off the charts. We really don't get enough of those type moments in the show since our group of survivors tend to stay in more secluded environments out in the countryside/suburbs.
Hello 👋 Another awesome video, 👍👍 If someone has not already said it, that van being extremely front end heavy would have landed on its nose and crunched up like an accordion then it most likely would have tipped forward because of the momentum and then landed on its roof (there is a small chance it would have went backwards to land on the tires), their legs would have been crushed if they were even still alive, 😏 So glad Noah found our group, 👍👍 My biggest ‘what the h***’ moment was why Carol being Carol would have so carelessly ran out into the road knowing the people Noah said that would have heard the gunshot were close and then she saw them, even if they had not been, she should have slowly crept out all the while being cautious of Walkers since they are in such a large city with a whole lot of them, that one stumps me every time I see this episode, 😏 Have a safe and wonderful week ahead, 👋😀👋

I love how Daryl took care of the mother and child walkers so Carol wouldn’t have to.
Yes, Daryl & Carol are the perfect dynamic duo.

I love Daryl and Carol’s relationship which also makes me love this slow episode.

Well said!

I love a visual they repeat through this episode: Carol in fire, Daryl in smoke. Not sure exactly what it means but just beautiful.
Daryl always see Carol as a family or sister. Nothing more than that hahaha.
