  • Reverse railfan window view out the back of Amtrak Empire Service Train #235 as it run up the Hudson Line from Huson, NY to the state capitol at Albany-Rensselaer.
Max speed on this portion of the line is 95mph below CP-125 and 110mph from CP-125 to CP-142. This was due to CSX, who owned and maintained the line between CP-75 and CP-125, not wanting to keep the tracks at the 110mph standard in the face of daily freight train service.
CSX freights exit the Hudson line via the Schodak Branch which diverges at CP-125, crosses over the Hudson Line and then reaches the Boston Line/Selkirk Branch at the Alfred E Smith Bridge that passes above the Hudson Line at a high level.
Also note the new CP-138, CP-141 and CP-142 that are part of the Albany Terminal reconstruction effort that will add a 4th station track and new engine change tracks. The signals at CP-138 are approach lit and flash on once Train 235 has occupied the block.
Train was running about 20 minutes late due to an initial terminal delay.

Remember that line. Rode it many times between Abany and GCT and a couple of times to Penn Station. Line is so straight and curves are so gentle that 125mph would probably be a safe speed. Brings back a lot of memories.

I lived in Stottville and worked in Hudson back in '78.

awesome views. Always wanted to travel this route-I take Metro North to New Hamburg and Manhattan weekly and took this route one time but way back in 1974. I drove from Troy area along I think Rt 9J which was next to the tracks and loved the view and small towns.

grew up in the tri-city area, moved away in '88, relocated to Fla and now model the D&H in the pre Guilford days. This video.. seeing the scenery again helps so much in trying to capture the feel of what I remember while growing up. Thank you for uploading this video.

Start @ 10:12, @ 10:15 minutes, you'll be looking at Mill Creek entering the Hudson River, and to the left, the end of Lewis A. Swyer Preserve trail through the marshland. You can see the elevated lookout tower for the trails end. Nice walk from access off 9J.

@@PositionLight It's maybe a 15 minute walk, unless you have to check out everything like I do, Beaver chews, tracks in the mud,ETC.

I think speed is enhanced with a video like this?

A little. A long zoom will remove speed and depth perception but a fisheye enhances them.

I am still trying to figure out how they put 4 tracks through here?

Only some parts of the line had 4 track.
