Glad i found this. I will be using the denon as my at home speaker and my charge 4 as my take everywhere speaker.
Vielen Dank!
Schade.
I really love the Envaya but I think the discharge already took its toll on mine. I wasn't as careful with the discharge as I should and probably left it completly empty a couple of times and now it seems it just plays for a 2-3 hours. I hope the tip will keep it alive for some more.
Vielen lieben Dank :)
Gerne.
It's seems like this issue is caused by the defective (Li-ion 18650) battery cells in some speakers. I have two DSB250BT speakers and the first one I bought in 2018, still performs well and the newer (bought in 2019) has the same problem, and also shortly after a full charge, it displayed only 3/5 level of battery. And I replaced the batteries and problem solved.
Regards
Hi Kamu. Could you please share link where you read that the battery in some envayas are bad?
@@Greenthumb211.
If you search on the internet (like: DSB250 BT battery problem) you'll find lot of people are having the same problems. And as i mentioned earlier, after replacing the two 18650 cells, my speaker has a decent battery life again without self-discharge.
(I put 3500 mAh Samsung cells in it and could listen more than 20 hours with one charge...)
Best Regards :)
Kamu Smafu were you able to open up the battery compartment by just unscrewing some screws, or did you have to tear it open / use force? I mean, would you say it is easy to do without risk of damaging the unit?
@@aamosgron76 Hi Aamos.
Well, it's not a simple task, but carefully doing it, shouldn't be a problem.
This is how I did it, step by step:
- 1. Strip the textile covered plastic grill starting at the back-side,
- 2. Remove 2 screws holding the back piece across -with the plug covering the two ports-,
- 3. Remove 4 screws holding the passive bass radiator and the folded sheet metal bar,
- 4. Heat up the passive radiator's frame to soften the sealing -I've used a hair dryer-
- 5. Remove the passive radiator using a thin and strong plastic knife,
- 6. Remove 4 screws holding the battery pack and unplug the power cord connected to the circuit board. There are 2 sticky pads under the battery pack so it needs a bit force to separate.
- 7. Remove the plastic holder frame and strip the black covering foil carefully and save the circuit board. Tear off the welded metal strips from batteries using pliers. REMEMBER THE POLARITY!
- 8. Connect 2 new cells by soldering the metal strips, then seal the new battery pack with shrink wrap or electrical tape.
- 9. Install the new battery pack. Test it before next step! First you may need to connect the charger to turn the speaker on.
- 10. Reassembling carefully the speaker. Clean and put some new sealant under around the passive bass radiator to make sure that the speaker remains IP67.
Take your time and good luck!
Regards
Great and well detailed info. Just saved my loved speaker putting new batteries in it as you described. I couldn't find any useful info about how to disassemble this speaker. Thank you very much! Respect!
Thanks! i recenlty bought one and im really worried. good to know that.
6 years later
I'm going to replace the accu pack of the speaker. As I have to open the case anyway, my question is if there is a possibility to block the discharge by soldering something like a diode or whatever between the accu and the connector to prevent the discharge?
@@svenlima a simple Diode might not help. No idea.
Denon Envaya Bluetooth speakers are equipped with a Battery Safety Modewhich prevents the battery from being damaged by deeply discharging it. If the Envaya speaker enters this mode, it will be switched off and switching on again is prevented.
To deactivate this mode, simply connect the supplied USB cable to a power adapter and charge the battery for at least one hour. A few minutes after starting the charging process, the Envaya can be powered on normally and used as usual.
Which is kinda pointless...Usually you want this speaker to be ready when you need it without any preparations...
Can confirm, had the same process with my Envaya Mini DSB-100: battery came back to life after keeping it on charger for a long(?) time, and still works as before. Granted, mine was one of the better ones, with self-discharge becoming a problem only after 2-3 months of sitting unused (still not normal, but tolerable).
YES - "IF" you had watched the video - you would have found that he said this??????
Unfortunately, this does not seem to work on the DSB50BT despite suffering from the same high self-discharge. The documentation on Denon's website even states "for DSB150BT/250BT only" for the described reset procedure, although I can't fathom any reason why it would only apply to those two models.
Hard buttons can be made soft and informative - warm the hair dryer)))
thx ruediger!
Mine doesn't even make the popping sound, guess it's too drained to even do that?
FYI: Seems like even my Bose SoundLink Mini II if inactive for more than 24 days (or if battery drops to 0%) will go on battery protection mode to preserve battery power and to reactivate the speaker it needs to be connected to AC (mains) power. According to the Bose website: Do not store a fully charged speaker for long periods of time. Which means putting the Denon Envaya on battery safety mode for storage for prolonged periods will degrade the Li-ion battery over time.
Thanks 👍🏻
Thank you Ruediger !
with pleasure!
Richtiger gut klingt das Ding aber nur ohne Stoffhulle....
Ich bekomm die Dinger nicht mehr untereinander gekoppelt....
Can you tell me where can I get the AC/DC charger here in Germany? I am so far charging it only on my laptop's USB port. Can I use any 5v 2.4A cell phone charger and the Denon's fabric cable? Thank you.
Should work, I also use my 2,4A cell phone charger. NO WARRANTY FROM MY SIDE. Laptop often only delivers 0.5A.
thank you. very good info video.
Good tip.. Thanks!
You can use a powerbank if you don't have a wall charger.
John, thanks for your comment! Of course any type of charger will do the job if it can deliver sufficient power, which has to be defined.
Ruediger Heilig Your welcome! And by the way, regarding the self discharge.. I think I'm fine with it, since it is not good to keep the battery at full charge for long periods of time. And even if it discharges up to 60% (3leds), it still plays for hours atleast before going down 40% (2leds) at a good listening level. Even my bose micro self discharges a little. Just make sure you charge the denon if it goes down 20% to prolong the lifespan of the cells, or if it starts blinking. :)
John, that is a good plan, you feel confortable with that. BTW, if the battery suffers from constant charging depends on the max. voltage value it is charged to. Years ago they were charged up to 4.4 volts per cell, which was bad. 4.2 volts is a comfortable value for most batteries. The charger supplied to my Olympus digicam goes to 4.2 volts, but a second 3rd party charger I picked up for the car goes to 4.4 volts. There is a general tendency to go only to 4.2 volts partly when battery can not be changed by the user. But who knows what Denon does in this case. In the Envaya manual, there is no rule that charger has to be disconneccted after fully charged, as far as I know.
Hi sr my speaker when I start charging the sound of the safe mode it’s continues and not start charging, just sound de beep continuously can you help me. Thanks
2 main reasons why this speaker is not perfect:
-discharging
-static noise
I mean, I don't see this locking thing as a solution, since it might actually be bad eventually if the person forgets that it is locked and therefore needs a charger.
yes exactly. At low volume while source is set to low volume and speaker itself is set to high, hiss noise is really distinctive and audible. It is too late I bought it :)
What????????????????????
I have the same problem, the only thing I don't like of this speaker besides that is almost perfect
Hi, is this speaker still usable even after battery died with a cord??
Hahahaha!!!.. No
Yes, it can be used if the battery has a fault, using a micro-usb.
How does a battery "die with a cord"????
👍
Nice try but pressing BT + Power + Phone keys clears the BT device list and resets the Speaker, I'd thus rather call it a shelf or "shipping mode" since it prevents the unit from arriving dead after longer storage time at the warehouse.
I used this combination only once and that was right before sending this piece of crap back to Amazon.
In my case it does not delete the BT device list, would be happy if sometimes. They might have changed the firmware. Good to know. Thanks for posting.
Tried it.
But my battery still doesn't charge any longer than a minute. Also takes one minute after device turns itself off again. :(
Btw, got a replacement and ordered another one for stereo pairing. :D
Have you tried the reset - as explained in the video???
I was very disappointed with this purchase, the batteries run out in just one hour and if I charge it the next day it is discharged.
Thanks for video. Btw, After 1.5 years using the envaya 250, battery doesn't charge to full. From 0 to 3 LEDs it charging about 1 hour. And 4th and 5th leds for few minutes. And if I turning on, it starts from 3rd led..I mesured capacity (by digital tester) its show 2500mA.. think battery degradated. Btw, no one knows what's capacity of battery on new speaker.
Thanks for your feedback. And, bluetooth stack does NOT get cleared after reset. Both my envaya 250 I have permanently connected to a low power charger now. Have same effect than you with the 5th LED here. My personal view: Would not buy this product again.
Same problem
Two 18650 cells (in series) 3000 mAh.
Kamu Smafu hi, what kind (model and discharge max Amperes) of cells is installed?
@@rudi0310 same issuie
Mine wasn't used for a month or so. I just tried to charge it and it makes weird screeches and disturbing noises from the speaker
Ok so I tried the original cord not a generic cord and it's charging fine now!
@@JosephFlemming How is your speaker's battery holding up until now? Still experiencing battery discharge when not it use and any other issue noticed (sound hiss or volume sync, etc.)?
EJ Espinosa it’s rarely used but if I do the trick In this video to lock the battery it does hold a charge for weeks at a time or longer until I use it again :)
@@JosephFlemming Thanks for the feedback! I'm expecting my unit to be delivered this week. Was kinda worried it won't last like my Bose SL Mini II.
EJ Espinosa you won’t be disappointed. Other than the buttons being somewhat hard to press, this is an excellent solid unit that has amazing sound. Much better sounding then Bose mini Bluetooth speakers
Doesnt work with envaya 50bt
My unit makes noises and static when charging, how to fix?
.... I only unterstand railstation...
Thanks for your video. But! When you connect charger to unlock, you deactivate battery safe mode. So I see no sense in it.
Battery safe mode is for storing. Unlock after.
Then watch the video AGAIN and pay attention!
What a disaster of machine! I will Well it in Wallapop as soon as possible
???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
After a year of having mine, same problem
RESET!
does not do anything. my Denon is dead
Sound is the best. Battery is downside and waste of money on any of their Envaya models. batteries aren't replaceable and you can't use it direct from USB powered on. Save your money is my advise and avoiding buying it.
@Light-bringer prabably when battery is deeply discharged then unit does not show signs of life... Mine still operating so I can't test this scenario.
You are giving out BAD "advise" (it's actually adviCE).
I had 2 replacements issued by local retailer and none of them work post a year. Since battery used to drain away fast even at 50% volumes we connected it directly to power source to use it so this makes the battery vulnerable. And these batteries aren’t replaceable and if you do happen to replace it then again you will have issues to use this. Mine is lying dead even after a replacement battery and the replacement isn’t like plug and play. So save your money is my asvise! and my trust and faith in Denon is long gone.
As soon as the flimsy USB in the back breaks down, your speaker has become useless. I tried repairing it, but nobody anywhere sells the module where the powerplug is housed in, and denon tech support refuses to respond. Denon is just like all the others, pathetic, corrupt, weak, corwardly and careless regarding our environment.
This is my case too. But I will still try to repair it....
@@aromanovskaia The module isn't available any longer, not even on ebay or ali. So I'm now going to have to clear it from that black paste/glue that they put over it and solder a USB cable directly onto the module 'board'.
WHO are all the others?
I was told tbat if you have the speaker set under 100% volume that when you try to adjust the volume with your phone the speaker still thinks it's at 100% and therefore doesn't respond to the phone volume setting correctly. Anyone else hear this?
WHO told you that????
Not somebody who owns one!
Thats not a viable solution.
You cannot expect from the customer to manually put the speaker into battery safe mode every time it's switched off (you'd have to do it since you never know when you actually gonna use it again).
so it's dead after roughly 60 days, well good to know.
My battery drains within a few days of non use. Totally unacceptable.
@@ibleebinU this is design flaw by denon. And there is no a workaround so far.
Watch the video again!!!
Neither of your points were what was actually said!
