Hey Boys. 1st time commenter - but I've been a Levels watcher since the beginning. You guys are the gold standard for Rugby League podcasts in 2024. Sorry for the long comment here - but I think this is important to run through. After 7 weeks of the comp I'm convinced that its time to ditch the bunker and put the power of decision making back in the hands of the on field officials asap. When you watch any game at the moment - you are guaranteed to have a mix of rulings on obstructions, knock-ons, and disruptors throughout the match - where even the expert commentators who have played and coached the game at the highest level - with the benefit of multiple replays - can't agree on the ruling. If they can't agree - how is the bunker supposed to come up with a ruling that will satisfy everyone. The short and obvious answer is it can't. I feel like the game is putting itself through torture - looking for perfection that it is never going to be able to achieve. My suggestion would be to go back to the standard Video Ref - who can only rule on the 'in goal try scoring put down' - to pick up the obvious knock on that the on field officials may not have been able to see. (That should be reviewed in 'real time' as well - not slowed down to the point where they are looking for 1mm of separation). Everything else should be put back in the hands of the on field referee and touch judges. This would completely change the game for the better. Instead of players falling on the ground hoping to be saved by the bunker - they are forced to compete on every play. The standard of refereeing would improve as well - as they can no longer rely on the bunker to make the call - and would be forced to sharpen up in areas where they may have gotten used to leaving it to the bunker. As a game - if we can accept that the refs are going to make some mistakes - but pick up on 90% of the obvious infringements - and let the bulk of the 'nit-picking' infringements that the bunker is struggling to get right anyway go through to the keeper - I am sure that the overall performance of the players and refs will improve.
No excuses, but we've had a bit of a grind against decent teams bar Souths, which even then it was 6-6 after 35 minutes to start the season. There were cracks in the Manly game, which were papered over by the draw being pulled from out of the fire. We have some older bodies in there, and they are already looking banged up only a quarter of the way through the season. Our middles aren't super young and are being loaded up on big minutes because there is no one else available to come in. No Niukore, Bunty, Jazz, Walker currently to spread the minutes out a bit. Ford and Capewell are also playing banged up. They expended a lot of energy to get a point in that draw. Add in a bit of travel and a two man bench. It's not hard to see why a fit and disciplined Drags ran a train on us. I'll see how we back up against the Titans before making too much of a judgement. Drop our bundle that game, and it will be a concern.
AFL was a religion for me growing up Saw the Blues win eight premierships! Been two many GFS well over a hundred thousand. 121.690 once.. when the Blues Carlton went down the gurgler! Along come the Storm. Can't believe My luck. Been to many games and three NRL grand finals! Still follow it the AFL, but no where near the NRL and the Storm. And prefer Rugby league! the one thing as a tigers supporter they need to fix is supporting the player running the ball, when they do that they will score more tries but its so rare to see a player support the player with the ball. there were many times in the games when the forwards got there hands free when poking through the line and no player even trying to support, this has been the problem for a decade

I’ve seen a bit of negative press on Joey Manu making the switch to union (not from you guys) The same old narrative of “league players making the switch doesn’t work out because they don’t have the skill set” just wanna point out and I feel like it hasn’t been covered almost at all, Joseph Manu grew up playing League and Union and always excelling in both. I played in his team my junior years and my old man coached him and always said “he’ll be an all black” he was MVP for every reps team and every year of his life & played Union at pretty much the highest possible Representative level before he got chucked into the Roosters System end of high school, I know he’s super private about his life and also one of the most humble blokes but fuck it gets me pissed when I see journos bad mouthing his switch when they don’t know shit about the dude or his union history.

Using DWZ and Staggs for Tonga as an example, Staggs is a young gun on the rise who has switched to Australia once the opportunity came, whereas DWZ switched to Tonga later in his career to make his grandmother proud and do service to his heritage and people, what do you boys think needs to be considered to ensure players have the flexibility needed to represent the diversity in their heritage throughout their career? Second, I know you guys can't post clips from the games, but I would love it if you could put the key stats (teams/score/try scorers +times) as a lower third graphic in reviews. It just helps to remember the games, especially if I've only watched the highlights (sorry if this just made a bunch of work for you Lukey, best of luck with your fight!). Love the show regardless. It's great to hear you guys dissect the game, on and off the field, in such detail.

I reckon that the big move for Madge to make that noone hase suggested is Moses at 7 and Clearly unleashed at 6. Replicate Cogger freeing him up at the end of the 23 GF, let Cleary run and play heads-up while someone else does the structure. It worked for Cronk and Thurston.It would give Cleary licence to absolutely kill it. Pairing him with Cody or Nicho or Burton or Jerome just hamstrings him and therefore we need Yeo to ballplay and lose a middle forward in the process. It works at club level - until the grand final (levels to this!) and it won't work at origin or test level when Cleary could be way more dominant in the 6, and really show off his full toolkit. What do you think? Cheers boys!

They have great attacking players but they aren't a great attacking team. They rely on individual players to do something out of the ordinary for a lot of their points, not on a great attacking structure. I think it's poor coaching

I can see why the geographical location was mentioned but here I feel it's a more glaring problem than that. As a NQ supporter I see some serious problems with the selections, defensive coach as well. Whatever they do at training is clearly not working. I think we need some more mobile forwards that are effective workhorses. Having just big players presents the issues you lads spoke of being middle third deficiencies. Maclean I personally have never rated. He just doesn't do the job effective enough for a middle forward imo.

All of negative comments on the roosters, we have had one of the hardest starts to the season and besides the bulldogs game have been competitive against the top sides only losing by a try. I think it’s abit to early to be worried about us and to be questioning Robbos coaching, we will find form in the next couple weeks and work our way to the top 4

Eels need to stop playing teams in Darwin that are Queensland teams, take the warriors or storm there who come from a cooler less humid climate

As a NQ supporter I see some serious problems with the selections, defensive coach as well. Whatever they do at training is clearly not working. I think we need some more mobile forwards that are effective workhorses. Having just big players presents the issues you lads spoke of being middle third deficiencies.

What a week of Footy. Great football but Friday nights ref. Of course, you need to look at the player, so you know where your opponent to the last millimetre _then jump for contest. Disrupter is totally stupid. So many stupid discision by the whole Ref fraternity. They don't even have common sense nor understanding of Footy
