    Why is there so much hate for the replica? It's $500, not $5000 and certainly not $30,000. It still fires and it's still cool to own! The price is right IMO

    Bakelite under the barrel allows to hook the gun in the armored vehicle firing port, and prevents the muzzle from backing into the vehicle during firing and bullets ricocheting inside.

    Despite being from the 40's the original MP40 seems to be made to a higher standard of manufacture. That being said, I'm still very happy that ATI is bringing in 9mm MP40s!

    • @TheLouisianan
      @TheLouisianan 5 лет назад +2

      The MP40 was actually a cheapened version of the MP38 because the MP38 was a milled receiver and expensive to make. The MP40 was essentially the cheap version with mostly stamped parts to consume less raw materials and speed up production.

    • @victorglaviano
      @victorglaviano 4 года назад +1

      Almost all Machine Pistols (MP) or its later brethren sub-machine guns are stamped, they're designed to be produced quickly and cheaply, this is why the US military no longer uses them, last one was the M3. The M3 or known in the military as the grease gun, was a flop! Started production in 1942,issued to tankers some paratroopers, staff and artillery units. Because of its stamped production, using plastic parts in some cases it was prone to literally falling apart when fired because it's an inertia cyclic weapon. But hey, they looked, cool!
      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3_submachine_gun

    • @dizzzave357
      @dizzzave357 Год назад

      I dunno, look at how poor the machining is on the bottom of the upper on the original. Other than the recoil spring assembly, the clone looks higher quality and generally improves on the original while keeping the aesthetics 99% intact.

    I got mine and I LOVE it, no issues great shooter, read a lot about things vibrating out no issues, just lock tight the usual things, like screws that hole the black plastic down, put around 200 rnds through it without a cleaning and no failures, the bar that connects the trigger is a bit mushy under the ejection side plastic bit, but Atlantic wall blanks sells a good stainless steel replacement, or if you're feeling frisky you can make your own, all in all great gun, I hope some one makes Bakelite replacements for the black polymer some day!

    • @charlesvickrey1509
      @charlesvickrey1509 3 года назад +1

      I saw another video on replacing the trigger bar like the one Atlantic Wall sells. So I decided to make my own I will attach a photo if possible. Not having the oval slot in the front takes a lot of play/sloppiness out of the trigger.

  • @amorfati4559

    The Germans had a milled version called the mp38, but the mp40 was developed as a cost effective replacement with it's stamped parts.

Years back while with a WW-II SS reenactment group, one of our members had the real thing and I got the chance to fire it full auto with live rounds, it was a beautiful weapon. The GSG MP4- I'm buying will just be for plinking at the range and not for hunting/home defense as I have several AR's and more various weapons for that purpose.

    Original MP-40 barrels were threaded primarily for BFA's for training purposes.

    • @dimaboz8012
      @dimaboz8012 5 лет назад

      That's an interesting theory, I haven't thought of that. My thinking was, that since MP40s were primarily made for tank crews, the thread was for portholes, just like on Russian BMPs. I recall, Germans were toying with the concept of periscopic gun adapter for shooting out of the hatch, but the adapters I've seen were primarily for Stg 44.

      @@WildernessMedic some weapons made today are open bolt and are not banned, SCAR, FS 2000 and a couple others, it's a cost thing mostly. Plus some weapons today have what's known as a combination bolt, my M1A1 SOCOM comes to mind, last round the bolt will remain open and you can hit the release and it will slam home (i do mean slam with an M1A1!), loading a round, so it's called a combination bolt or as we call them a half bolt!
      Anyway, technically no you don't have to register an open bolt unless automatic, technically yes you can own without registering, like most of the NFA or 922r compliant (commonly called the 2nd arms control act, although really the 4th ,...34, 68,86 & 97), they're ambiguous!

      The aluminum bar performed 2 functions. First to aid in cooling the barrel and more importantly to prevent the barrel from being pulled out of a firing port when being fired,
      thus shooting into the vehicle.

    Well for the reenactors its great. They are cheaper to feed than the open bolts because of fire rates. Collectors yep get a real one. We carry a lot of originals in the field. It's a bad day when you loose a mag. These you can beat up who cares! The only design flaw or feature with the gsg is the charging handle can fall out in the field. Which happened to one of my pards. We had to share one between us. But other than that, blank or live fire mine has been reliable. ATI is working on a folding stock kit. So with a few mods and upgrades it will suffice.

  • @knottreel
    @knottreel 4 года назад +2

    More likely the differences such as mag sizes and charging handle differences were due to ATF requirements. We saw this with the Kahr semi reproduction of the Thompson 1928 where differences in tolerances and bolt design would make it difficult to interchange parts with the original full auto version.

    The cheap ABS looking plastic is a bit disappointing, but for the price I can't complain. Probably wouldn't take to much to replace it with aluminum either.

    hmm... so the mp40 was
    the original "tupperware" gun??
    bakelite is so named bcs of its initial use
    for cooking pot handles correct? is the replica
    a straight blowback action then since mass
    was in no way limited w/ the 8-lb heft?

  • @victorglaviano
    @victorglaviano 4 года назад

    Machine Pistol (MP), not a machine gun. A machine gun is either belt or drum fed, often called a crew-served weapon because the gunner normally has an "A gunner", the A gunner carries extra barrel, rounds and acts as a spotter when the gunner is in a fixed or defelaid (covered and concealed by a machine gun nest or a ridge) position.
    It will never be a SBR... It's a pistol!

    If I, somehow, put a rifle length barrel on and a stock would that be fine?
    I don't know how the NFA works, is the receiver "locked" to being certain things?
    Would i need to do paperwork or some shit if I, for some reason, wanted to put a rifle length barrel and stock on the gun?

    The GSG MP40 is not machined, it's cast from pot metal, like any diecast toy. Some states in USA don't allow sales of pot metal guns, because sooner or later they will turn to dust and are dangerous. Kids this is how you make money, make a $5 product and sell it for $500.
    And yes I did buy and own a GSG MP40, but I know it will not last.
    That's why the original are worth a lot of money.

  • @DerWaidmann_
    @DerWaidmann_ 5 лет назад

    It was not that hard for ATI to make this correctly. The only change they had to make was the close bolt semi auto only. Every other cosmetic/external change is ridiculous. The only reason to own one of these is to have something as close as possible to the original.

    Hey there! A question, is the bakelite parts from an Original MP40 are fitting on the GSG one? If it does, Could you make a vid of that because I wish to change the plastic fore and pistol grips.
