Katina is so adorable and she's a freaking beast when it comes to eating. I wouldn't be able to stomach that much butter in one sitting. Great win and great new record!!!
I was thinking the same. She ate way more than half. She was eating a massive piece and he cuts 1 in half and says here you go, you can have this one too

@@fishnkidneys583 Well actually if you watch how much Katina is putting on her pieces compared to his it definetly is alot more. shes got piles it on and he has a small scraping compared.And then to top it off passes her the bowl at the end.
Have to stand up for my hometown and mention that we do speak english here as much as in other towns in finland 😁 Here arent that many perfect english speakers than example in Helsinki. Only 4000 people living here and most of them are bit older who didint get that good english lessons than some of us. But love to see Ilomantsi on world map. Hope you had great visit here. I know us karelians can be little introverted but we also welcome everyone to our dinner tables open hearted. We have this saying "hulvatun vara" which basically means to make food enough for unnounced people just in case. Keep doing great videos 👍

I remember first starting watching Randy Santel most likely tens of years ago, and i never ever thought he'd eventually come to Finland to eat our national dish made as a food competition with he's WIFE ! (He was soooo single before that trip to Alaska) Simply amazing. I enjoyed every second of this video ! :D

Karjalanpiirakka is very much a staple in Finnish cuisine! Absolutely delicious with egg butter. I'm glad you both had a chance to try it. You two destroyed that challenge, too!

It’s like two pounds of fries with a gallon of ketchup, or a 12 patty burger with pitcher of mustard. I understand big pastry, lots of egg butter but the ratio just seemed way out of whack.
This video is a trifecta because we get to see amazing food from another country, plus Randy AND Katina, my two favorite pro eaters🤩 I already enjoy both their channels, but get a little tired of the usual burger and pizza challenges. Its been so much fun to watch them tour the world and show us cuisine from other countries. Now i really want to try this Finnish dish, however its pronounced. It looks delicious!

The idea of eating butter like that is a little off putting. But you guys smashed it! I like when you do challenges together, and as someone who’s been married for 47 years, I appreciate how Randy treats Katina. If you want to be king of your castle, treat your wife (to be) like a queen.

Nice to see you guys in Finland and especially in Ilomantsi which is the eastern point of European Union. Karjalanpiirakka is really delicious and you can tune it up with any toppings you like or just go plain and enjoy with coffee or cold milk. Cheers from Finland and please come again!
@@RandySantel Maybe it's just hometown pride (I'm from Nokia :) ). The original rubber factory that started it all is in Nokia, but the company wasn't called Nokia until it moved to Tampere. So... I guess we're both right :) Thanks for visiting Finland!

I don't know the original name but some years later they built a second paper mil hugging the river Nokianvirta which flows through Nokia, and so the owner decided to name the company Nokia.. we talking late 1800s. Then Nokia got into electricity supply. then the Finnish Rubber Works bought up Nokia to take advantage of their hydropower resources.
Paper is still made in Nokia paper mill to this day, by the way. It's been 144 years since the first factory started producing paper. It's hasn't been owned by the original Nokia company after the 1990's, however.
Karjala (Karelia) is a land area in the south east that Finland lost to the common enemy at the last war. My both parents were born there and had to leave their homes to the R....ns. My grandmom used to bake karjalanpiirakka in her basement when I was a child. It's still my favorite dish. Of course served warm with egg butter.
I also have grandparents from the "Lost Karelia". They made the best Karelian Pies and eggbutter. I usually rate lunch/catering made eggbutter and pies with a high Karelian standard :D
Are you talking about the same South Karjala that Finland illegally annexed from Russia in 1918? That is not to mention that Karelia is a huge chunk of Russian territory with capital in Petroskoi that had never had anything to do with Finland or Finns, while in fact this is exactly the area where this pie originates along with Kalevala - the epos that was heavily used to form the Finnish identity at the time when there was no Finland even in the wildest dreams, but Russian Empire.

Before ya'll started I told myself that ya'll would cut their time in half. It was a smart move to incorporate that butter/eggs which I thought was scramble eggs into the main dish. Awesome team win!
Yeah munavoi(egg butter) is spread on top of the karjalanpiirakka just like regular butter on bread. Makes the pastry taste like a million times better than without anything.
I've watched quite a few food challengers but I always come back to Randy. I like yge daft that he talks a lot and that he actually puts on weight ,which I think is normal,with all that food.
Indeed. Half the amount of egg butter would have been more than enough. Maybe this amount was calculated mathematically simply by scaling up from a normal sized portion, but clearly nobody would actually use that much, if given a choice.
Wow! I’ve never even heard of this dish before, let alone seen it as a challenge. Excited to see Randy and Katina take it on. My favorite food fighting couple! 😁 A cheesy, eggy, rice, potato, pie, butter thing? That’s a lot of carbs, and a lot of “love” 😅. But Randy and Katina absolutely destroyed it! Pretty sure you two had more trouble pronouncing the food and the restaurant than eating the (surprisingly well-lubricated) meal. Great job, and congratulations on the win!! 🎉🎉
They might not always be that buttery. But the egg butter should always be like half eggs and half butter. Theyve probably buttered it some extra just for the challenge.

The ones you had at a hotel are called "cocktail-piirakka". It's a smaller massproduced version of the real Karelian pie. Cocktail-piirakka is mostly used as a base for many kind of toppings, so it can be used as a cocktail-snack in parties and venues (hence the name).
Amazing win to the hungry loving couple who managed to squash a very buttery food challenge I would to see during the Christmas season you and Katina dress up as Santa and Mrs Claus doing a Christmas themed food challenge just a thought really.
Oh do try the salmiakki ice cream and the tar ice cream. They are great. Those rice pies are a great treat to have with coffee in the afternoon but seeing that much egg butter...wow.

They might not always be that buttery. But the egg butter should always be like half eggs and half butter. Theyve probably buttered it some extra just for the challenge.

The ones you had at a hotel are called "cocktail-piirakka". It's a smaller massproduced version of the real Karelian pie. Cocktail-piirakka is mostly used as a base for many kind of toppings, so it can be used as a cocktail-snack in parties and venues (hence the name).

Oh do try the salmiakki ice cream and the tar ice cream. They are great. Those rice pies are a great treat to have with coffee in the afternoon but seeing that much egg butter...wow.
