I did a complete Stage 1 over the winter on My Road King Special. Ventilator Air Cleaner/Fuel-Moto Jackpot Header/Tab 4.5 Zombies with Z-Rings and Torque Cones/Power Vision with Fuel-Moto Tune. Yesterday I was finally able to get out and ride for the 1st time after the mods. 140 miles. The throttle response is so much better. It's instant. No lag at all. I did the install in my garage. Wasn't sure what to expect. I am very happy with the change in the way the RKS performs. Stage 1 at a minimum is required. More air in and out ,with improved fueling, is a good thing. I use and highly recommend the Revo-A's. I also have the AXEO fork cartridges. Handling/Comfort/ Ride Quality are dramatically improved. Best upgrade I've ever done for any Harley. Take care.
🛑🛑 Bob…change the Exhaust Header. Getting rid of the Catalytic Convertor by removing the Stock Header, helps the bike breath much better; and removes the heat away from you passengers right foot. My wife welcomed the change when the header was removed, making her ride much more enjoyable. 💯 Great Video👍
Totally agree Gene and I actually did that on my ultra limited and loved it! Of course now I have a new bike and under warranty so I’m a little hesitant but we’ll see down the road, getting that cat out is great
I think it is up to the rider whether they want to waste money on staging their bike. I have never understood Harley's crap with stages. With what they gouge people for two wheels and a motor, they ought to give their best right up front. Thumbs up.
It's not just Harley Davidson. All of the Japanese & Italian and British motorcycle Companies the bike comes restricted. Try upgrading a ZX Ninja Sport Bike. It will cost you thousands. An Akrapovič Evolution exhaust can cost over 3,000 alone. An ECU flash add another 400.00.
@@Xpunkpro In SOME cases, and some states, that may hold true. But you are talking about a super sport race bike compared to an exclusively street bike. If you compare the HDs to Honda Gold Wings, or Kawasaki Voyager, etc, then you make a better comparison.
i have an 18 ultra classic at a friends house having Tab head exhaust pipes, oil cooler fan, brake pads, and my Screaming Eagle breather should be here tomorrow, installed.
I did a stage 1 on mine last year...like you say...its not a pull you off the seat difference in power...but I did notice the throttle response was better and little better roll on power. I did a full front and rear progressive suspension this winter as well...can't wait to test it!!..thanks for the ride along....stay safe...ride safe!!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
Always appreciate the comments my friend from the north. At this point the only thing I am hard on is a suspension change like you did. Ride safe and I enjoyed your last video
I put Tab Slip-ons with zombie baffles on mine and I thinks that’s all I’m going to do. The bike performs well enough for me as it is. I have the same bike as you but blacked out version in vivid black. My biggest struggle in life right now is not looking for rock chips on my new motorcycle.
Hear those slip-ons are sweet. I have a video review coming out that reviews the bike after 5000 miles and I talk about you don’t have to do much. Ride safe
Words and terms like “HAVE TO” and “SHOULD BE” have no place in anyone’s motorcycle obsession ahem I meant motorcycle ownership experience. 😂 Keep enjoying yours and thank the heavens our significant others don’t know the half 😂 😂. Man I’d get jealous too if I knew the time, effort, psychological and emotional commitment willfully allocated to this obsession 😂. Ps. Love the excuses 😂 or should I say explanation of the transfer of parts upgrades to newer motorcycles. Great video👍🏾. Oh and final last words “I’m not going down that road” 😂 See you when ya get there. I’ll be waiting for you as you’ll have plenty or company. Boy is this thing we do fun.
H-D has a great PR/Advertising Dept. to keep owners chasing performance and spending money. I like it. My stock is doing well. Keep spending at dealer!
The first mod I did to my Ultra Limited was suspension, I believe that bang for buck it is the the best improvement you can make. Where I live we have lots of curves and bumps, usually combined. The suspension upgrade not only improved handling but also comfort on the bike, making it easier to use the available power. When you modify your suspension get it set up to suit your weight, amount of time you are two-up with a full load of gear and the types of roads you like to ride. Don't just buy out of the box, you will miss a lot of improvements if you do. The problem I have with stage 1 is the addiitional noise when riding for long periods. For me it becomes more tiring and annoying so happy to stick with the stock set up.
@@hdstreetglide08 Hi, my upgrades were done on a budget. I installed Ikon shocks with heavy duty springs. The Ikon shocks have adjustable rebound damping which makes them better value for money in a low end shock. I am happy with the ride and handling, however spending more money of higher quality shocks may have improved the Ultra more. This may not be as much of an issue on a bike without a tour pack, as it makes the bike significantly lighter. I also used installed Ikon heavy duty fork springs with 10w fork oil set to the factory level, several people and my local dealer suggested that I use 20w oil, I believe this would have been too heavy causing the front end to be harsh.
Delivery of my 2022 road glide limited, black and blue! Any day now! Having stage 2 done before even riding off the lot!! Along with ledgend suspension!! I’ll be ready for sturgis 😎
Good stuff. I've done Stage 1 on both my 2015 Street Glide Special and 2019 Road King Special. I also changed out the head pipes as well. Bikes run more efficiently and definitely cooler. Performance is not a huge increase but 8 to 10% is noticeable. Legends Suspension are great. It's night and day difference. Ride safe 👊👍🇺🇸
I did the head pipe change out with my 2018 ultra limited and it was amazing. Now I am under warranty so having to be a little more careful and I look forward in getting the new suspension
On my 2024 Street Bob 114, I put Cobra slip ons, Arlen Ness oval super sucker air filter kit, and the Screaming Eagle pro street tuner. Believe me, it made a big difference! And fuel economy didn’t suffer much.
Bodean52 I recently picked up my 2022 and had same issue with the bars, I asked the dealer to move the bars up as far as possible and It still felt stock to me, I went in and took the clamp off and raised the bars up, took a pair of vise grips and pulled the pin out that prevents the bars from being adjusted further up or down, put the bars back in the clamp and raised them as much as I wanted making sure I didn’t pinch any wires coming out, it was easy to do, would have been easier with two people. I did this on my 2016 road glide and never had an issue. Just a suggestion if your wanting to raise them a little higher.
I really appreciate that and I thought the same because mine are rolled up to the pin right now. The guy who did them for me I fully trust of been dealing with and he said the reason they don’t do that is from a safety perspective, they believe the ability to turn the handlebars is a problem if they’re standing up any straighter 🤷♂️
I’m all about comfort and safety with style close behind on my motorcycles. You will love the Legends. I installed Revo Arcs on my 20 Limited. Ride is so much better than stock. I just installed Axeo on the front. The bikes handling and ride is very balanced. Next is bars for me. I’ve got 14” Klock Werks Klip Hangers in order. Waiting on them to come in. After the bars it will be a back rest for me.
I am a Harley Owner. I have a 2017 Ultra Limited with the 107. It currently has a “stage I” with Sharkroad 4” exhaust and 2.5” baffles. It has an RSD Turbine intake simply because I liked the look of it and got it for a good price. I have the Power Vision Shop Tune “the one that the shop can tune the stock ECM without the actual tuner or touch screen display” and had my guy tune it. I have a video showing the difference in sound from Stock, Sharkroad with Baffles and Sharkroad without Baffles. I wanted better sound than stock and I wanted more power for when I ride two up on longer trips. I am not a small guy and with my wife and I together we weigh around 500 lbs which maxed out the stock suspension. I want enough power that I do NOT have to down shift to accelerate out of a bad situation on the highway or to pass a vehicle on the back roads in a timely manner while riding two up. Stock it just didn’t have the power to do that. I will be going to a “stage II” in the near future. I will be replacing the stock head pipe which has the catalyst with the FuelMoto Jackpot 2-1-2 stainless Headpipe which allows me to use the stock heat shields and the same slipons I currently have. I will also be getting a Woods 22XE cam kit which has the S&S lifters and adjustable push rods as well as a new inner cam bearing and all the gaskets and stuff. I will be replacing the lifter guides while I’m in there as well as the oil pump with the 2020 HD oil pump that’s been upgraded. Bone stock this bike was putting out around 75-HP and 90-TQ. With the stage I it’s now pushing around 90-HP and 100-TQ. When I get the Stage II parts together and have my guy install it all as well as dyno tune the bike. It should be pushing around 105-110-HP and 115-120-TQ. That’s around a 40-45% increase in HP and 30-35% increase in TQ. I am fairly certain that with this gain in HP and TQ it will give me enough power to power out of a bad situation or pass a vehicle in a timely manner while riding two up. Exhaust cost $225, Intake Cost $175, tune cost $200, cam kit cost $650, FM jackpot headpipe cost $400, 2020 oil pump cost $150, S&S lifter guides $100, labor for the install and a full dyno tube $600. Because of us maxing out the stock suspension I have upgraded the stock suspension with a Suspension Technologies suspension “ SuspensiontechnologiesUSA.com ”. The ride quality is night and day difference. Plus the new suspension adds nearly double the suspension travel versus stock. I might add that I got their heavy duty suspension which is rated for 600lbs and they also offer an extreme heavy duty which goes to like 800lbs. They are a smaller company but have an amazing product. Based out of Largo Florida. The owner use to design and build NASCAR suspensions he has implemented that knowledge into the motorcycle world. I can now go over a rail road track or pot hole and barely feel it. Where as before it would jar my wife’s back so bad it would cause her back to hurt for several days after a 300 mile ride. Cost is better than most large name brands being at $675 for the rear and $750 for the front. If you happen to live close enough to go to their shop or if you happen to go to a bike rally like Daytona Bike Week “they were there” they will install the suspension free of charge. My reason for the upgrades to the engine is to have the safety of having enough power and performance to be able to control the bike at the twist of the throttle with no down shifting or lag in performance. My reason for upgrading the suspension simply for comfort. Man what a difference. Both are worth the money invested in my personal opinion. I haven’t even finished the Stage II yet and the bike already has a good amount of pep while riding solo.
Bought my 14 SGS late in 14. Part of the deal was stage one. Screaming Eagle intake, V&H twin slash slip ons and FP3. They also performed “exhaust work “,removed the cats. So I didn’t have a before and after. However, while riding with my son two years later ,he has a 2016 SGS, we did a little roll on from 1st gear, his has only slip ons. I walked right away from him and he got the hit first. So it did help performance wise and while we did our saddle sore run I got nearly identical mpg. I’m not interested in going farther with the power but I am going to do the suspension so the Mrs will be more comfy. We’ve had this conversation several times amongst our riding group and most have a stage one. Good video.
No matter how you slice it any upgrades you make it’s pricey … but you’ll appreciate the investment as you place miles on it … you nailed it you can expect about 8-15 horsepower upgrade by a stage 1
That’s great it’s so hard to wait to ride isn’t it? So I got out obviously for this video about a week or so ago and now we have 2 inches of snow on the ground and they put down salt so it back in the garage I go. At least that ride helped me, hope it comes fast for you
@@BoDean52 yeah with all this white stuff today, I’m ok with waiting lol. But looks like good weather up until rain next weekend so we should be out of the woods after today.
When does the bleeding stop Bob? Never! I had the same attitude when I bought the Wing. I was going to keep it ‘as is’….. nah! I have already added goodies to that bad boy. There are no engine performance upgrades needed on a GoldWing. Im not sure you can even do anything other than keep it stock, but it’s all the stuff that hangs off the bike that can add up. As far as my 20 year old Electra Glide, I’m getting ready to paint her. She already has stage 1 and 2. I did both upgrades to increase cruising performance. And it made a world of difference. Besides suspension work, Stage 1 & 2 are probably the best ‘bang for the buck’ upgrades that can \ should be done on a Harley. Nope….. the bleeding does not stop . 🤔
That is so true and I might as well just come to my senses and realize I’m gonna do it anyway. I can see myself at some point doing the stage too but for now I’m just gonna add suspension to the stage one and go from there. I do say the Goldwing seems less expensive after the buy
So I own a 2021 like yours ( same color even )waited and did a stage two w 2 into 1 pipe and a false baffle and so glad I did, sounds so good with 20% increase in torque & HP. Plus the cam gives that thump at idle. Best upgrade I made👍
Look at the KST bars. They adjust fore/aft and the handles adjust in and out. You can se them to fit as you like. I installed 12 inch bars and love them.
I have a stage 2 on my RGL 2020 had it done at Michigan Baggers 475 S&S cam Thundermax tuner D&D 2 into 1 and S&S Supersucker air cleaner hope to see you out some place this season I ride down around Hell and on M36 all the time
You have GREAT bike! You would love a stage 2! I would not go beyond! I’m the guy that told you to stay away from I-75 in Cincy….It’s now ok! Enjoy your vids!!
Thanks I really appreciate that I’m not sure what I’m gonna do as far as the motor going forward and you are right about Cincinnati, it was not a fun experience. Ride safe
If your ever in the Lex to Cincy area let me know!! Like to meet you and plenty of overnight space!! BTW…..I ride a 2020 Heritage classic 114 stage 2 at 70 yrs old!!
I did stage 1 & 2 (torque) before I took the bike (22 RGL).I did it knowing I’ll probably change out the cam and tuner again once I’m closer to the end of warranty, but I do like the sound that comes with even an upgraded Harley cam. Haven’t decided if I’m going to up the ante with stage 3/4, but I will say I’m totally satisfied with the stage 2 along with the other plethora of things I’ve changed in the past couple months. Side note, I’m a tall rider as well (6’3”),. When they setup the bike initially I took it for a spin stock and the bars were so far in my lap that I politely asked if a short guy set it up. Lol (the answer was yes, yes he did). I ended up changing to 14” Siouxicide choppers bars, and love them. I’m definitely in the camp of firmly believing you’d feel so much better with different bars.
I’ll really tout a suggestion made by @HarleyDayRider: on my ride from Colorado to Los Angeles and back a few weeks ago, I wore bicyclist shorts under my riding jeans…the kind with the padded seat. They made a big difference. Not as much of a cool factor as upgraded suspension or seat, but they worked very well. 👍🏻
I did a stage 1 on my ultra. It helped the power and the fuel mileage. When I got my Road Master I just did a tune on it and don’t need anymore power. Finally got out for a short ride yesterday and it was great!!
Haven't done any stages yet on my 19 FLHTK. Pure stock motor wise. I did put a set of Platinum Super Shox on the rear. 14" length with I think 3.5 inches of travel. I'll have to check the specs but what a difference. It actually lowered the bike by 1"or 1.5" and improved the handling. $1300 bills for the set. Upgrading the suspension is by far the better spent money IMHO. Super Shox custom builds the shocks specifically for your bike, rider weight and riding style. They're serialized and completely rebuildable if you should ever wear them out but I doubt you will.
Bob I did Stage 1 on my 2017 because one reason was stock wise it didn’t give me that nice Harley rumble. Stock to me didn’t sound like what I thought a Harley-Davidson should sound like. If I wanted a quiet motorcycle I would of bought a BMW.
Great video. First things I do with a bike. Seat then bars. Once you have your hands in front of your shoulders you won’t go back. Then suspension. Legends, Ohlins, Fox, Wilber’s, Russ Wernimont , I ride are all excellent. Do the front as well. If I’m keeping the bike long term for lots of miles loved stage 2 but not Harley cams. Don’t forget to do some clutch work if you get up above 100 torque and HP. If I’m not keeping the bike long term I just do a full stage 1. If I were in your shoes, knowing that you love that bike and you at times do some two up tours. I would wait for warranty to expire, do the stage 2 at that time with a complete cam chest upgrade to include cam, cam plate and oil pump.
I just bought a new 2021 FLTRK, as I was watching this video I noticed screens in your shark noise fairing. What name brand are they and where did you buy them> Bob OH.
I HAVE to change out the seat. It’s like sitting on a bag of rocks after 30 minutes. I would LIKE to change out the suspension for Ohlins or Wilbers but they are a bit spendy.
@@BoDean52 , I haven’t made up my mind yet. I know Colin really likes his and other YT’ers say they are great. I do know that for me I feel that comfort upgrades are where my limited budget will go. After all what good is performance if you can only ride for 30 minutes before stopping and seeing a chiropractor.
The stock 114 is enough for me in power, and I don’t need more noise. I’ve gone the stage 1 route before and honestly noticed no difference in performance. If I do it again - and that’s a big if - it will be after the 2 year warranty is up. Then what I’ve done before - slip-ons, V&H Naked air cleaner, and V&H FP3. No dealer required! Those 909s look and sound great though. 👍 Very tempted... Must resist!
Resist, hold off, don’t do it, that’s where my head was 😂. I totally get that and since this bike is under warranty, I have to take it to the dealer which I’m not a huge fan of but fortunately they’re good. Ride safe
Nope, you did the right thing. Don't give them the slightest reason to void your warranty. I figure if I wait out the 2 years, it will help the urge pass and by then I will have forgotten all about it 😂
I have a stage 1 for my 2020 RG a year ago and was about to do the stage2 but I opt out to a Legend Revo A and very satisfied with the comfort, I will do stage 2 maybe some time next year , ride safe bro 👍🏽
Hey Bodean 52! Great video. I’ll be honest on my 2011 road glide ultra that I got new to me in 2019 it was a matter of time for changing things out. I always do the stage 1 kit if you will but usually opt for a full head pipe/full exhaust over just slip ons. But I also look at the big picture as you did. I ended up with a mustang seat custom dynamics lights new bars exhaust air cleaner tuner and then threw in Legends AXEO up front and Revo A in the rear. Now I will say like everyone else it’s night and day. You don’t realize how bad the suspension is untill you change it all out. I used to say first think I’m doing to the bike is a stage 1 kit now it’s full suspension. Also another crazy thing is for me the Revo A have been a awesome shock but once I set it and forget it and haven’t messed with preload adjustment I almost wish I had saved a few hundred and gone Revo not Revo A . Mind you that’s all personal preference but mine came out of the box set a 3 witch is what they put it at (Revo is set for 3 no adjustment) set the sag height and haven’t done a thing since. But long story short I think stage 1 is almost a must out if the box and then work your way up from there! Thank you for great content and can’t wait to see the future videos!
@@BoDean52 I have them love them. Would love to try the ARC and compair but I like cruising don’t need the remote reservoirs I don’t think haha! Good luck with them. Check legends you tube page for size shock and if standard or heavy duty. I went 13” Standard worked well for me
Hey Mr Bo..how long have i known you..couple years anyway..still waiting for you to get those legends..it was like a whole different bike for me..when you finally decide, you will certainly be happy with them..I tell you true brother 👍🏻
Big difference between need and want. I think once you start getting into the later stages is when the problems start. Personally I would do the stage 1 or 4 and skip 2-3. Touring bikes need adequate power not high performance. Comfort for those long trips.
Actually Pete I agree 100% with you. For how I ride and because we both have second bikes, the purpose of how you ride or why you ride plays into what you do in my opinion. I plan to spend the money on suspension and not more on the motor
I did the stage 2 on my 2020 before I had 3000 miles on it. Love it. Why did I do it? Well, because I could!! 🤓 Now CoastalMoto wheels have been ordered for the next “I’m not going to do anything else…” project (after I did the Custom Dynamics rear lights and front turn signals). Do we ever really get done spending money and doing projects? And there’s that needed new seat… 🤔
I've never been one to jump into the stage I, II, III or IV scene. It seems to me the people who have the most trouble with their bikes are the ones that start increasing horsepower and displacement on a stock lower case. I have a buddy now with a 131 kit in a heritage producing more horsepower than the stock transmission is even built to handle. He really needs to install a Baker but, that's even more money. And the reason he's up to a 131 is he's already lunched his two previous upgraded engines. He's already talking about the 135 crate motor which, at least was built from the case up to be a 135. When I got my 2015 FLTRX the first thing I did was take it back to the dealer and complain about it "pinging" and being "sluggish" on acceleration (Whether or not it was isn't the point). What that got me was a new fuel map flashed which significantly increased performance, and a decrease in engine temperature all for very little loss in fuel mileage under warranty, without the cost of a tuner. These bikes come from the factory so leaned out in closed loop situations due to EPA regulations they really don't run to their capability. In open loop situations (WOT) for the most part when it comes to fuel adjustment, is done by the O2 sensors. That's the only reason you aren't blowing holes in the top of your pistons on stock bikes from lean conditions at WOT. The second step was to do all the tricks for cooling (except auxiliary fans and a tuner) which I won't go into as they are well documented by multiple RUclips channels already. The third step once the bike was out of warranty was to address Harley's method of dealing blowby and routing all that oil, water and oxygen depleted vapor directly into the throttle body. At this point I did also modify the factory air filter cover (I personally like it's looks) for better airflow The fourth step after cleaning out all the carbon buildup on pistons and valves from dumping oil, water and oxygen depleted air directly into the throttle body over the previous 20,000 miles was to install www.boosterplug.com/shop/harley-davidson-touring-88c1.html. That gives me, IMHO better control than the factory MAS over the Dealer installed fuel map in closed loop situations. The last step since I'd already modified the PVC system which even though it's still closed loop, is illegal I figured in for a penny in for a pound and removed the CAT. Other than what I've described, mine is a stock 103 HO now pushing 52,000 miles. I will "probably replace the cam chain tensioners at 55,000 simply due to age. At 45,000 they still looked pristine. All I've had to do during the bikes life so far is regular maintenance. When I change oil I do change all three holes but, I've not had any clutch issues, compensator issues, automatic primary chain tensioner issues or anything else. Basically just Brake pads, tires, oil and spark plugs. Of course, I've done all the comfort modifications like bars, seat, suspension and addressing Harley's annoying relocation of the rear brake pedal in 2013 but the engines, I pretty much leave alone.
That is great information. Thank you very much. Can you come over and work on my bike 😂. I have left my road king as is as I bought it with a stage one but did put a stage two recently on my Road Glide Limited. Definitely going to stop there because I’ve heard of some of the other things that you mentioned. Thanks again and ride safe.
When it comes to “We” Harley riders/owners, it’s never a matter of “need”, it’s a matter of “WANT”!! The single need is always pipes (slip ons) simply because a Harley “NEEDS” tone and stock pipes don’t do the bike justice when it comes to sound! Everything beyond pipes is in the “want” category. Unfortunately the addiction is so intense that it creates tremendous pain upon our wallets. NEVER say NEVER Bodean, we’re watching 😂
I went to stage 3 on my 2017 Road Glide 107 and turned it into a 124. Because I had 83,000 miles on my bike and I figured if I were to freshen up the motor might as well do it right.
I was talked into it on a 2006 Super Glide and as far as I'm concerned it was a waste of money. I noticed no increase in power. The pipes however do need changing as Harley has not given us good sound from the factory for over 25 years.
Great video. Just a little off topic but what windshield are you running? It looks like a Klockwerks. I'd appreciate if you could let me know what height and style it is and how tall you are. I'm in the market for a windshield for my 2021 RGL. Thanks!
@@BoDean52 Thank you for the information. Love your channel! I just purchased a 2021 RGL. Watch your videos to get some information to upgrade my bike. Just added a ton of Custom Dynamics lighting and I'm going to test out that Klockwerks windshield next. Keep the great videos coming!
Hi Bob: Just watched your video on the stage 1 kit. Very informative but almost fell off my chair 🪑 once you laid out the cost. Each to his/her own & more power (10% lol) to you. For me, I’ll say respectfully that it’s not for me. Personally I don’t see the value in it for me. Now I have done upgrades like the Mustang Super Touring seat (your recommendation & thank you), LED lights all around the bike, mirrors + most importantly for me the Harley 5 year extended warranty. I love my 2021 Road Glide & am totally satisfied. Waiting for spring & the riding season. Be Well. Dave
Thanks Dave and funny you say that I actually did a 5000 mile review that comes out Sunday and I taught just about what you said. You really do not need to make any upgrades to the road glide limited
Just my experience, but upgrading suspension on an Ultra/Limited is not worth the money. A standard or special, absolutely. I did not notice enough of a difference to justify the cost and I did front and rear Legends on my Ultra. I actually had a warranty claim on the shocks, which they handled with no issues, but I haven’t put them back on because the stock shocks are doing just fine and I’m always 2up and loaded with weight. Just my thoughts and experience.
That’s very interesting to hear you’re the first person that said that to me. That said, I don’t think the suspension on my RGL is really that bad. Just so many people saying it’s such a big difference and people I trust that it makes me want to try. Still undecided
@@BoDean52 How many of them people you trust have street glide or road glide standards or specials? To the best of my knowledge, those bikes have 12” shocks, the Ultra/Limiteds have 13”, that’s the big difference. I’m sure the Legends, Olins, Wilburs etc have better components, but enough to justify the cost over stock? The extra inch of travel is overwhelming difference, in my opinion.
At the 7:20 mark, your at m-36 and M-52. At the end your in Stocktucky at the court house. My friend Suz started all clubs day there. I just stumbled upon your video looking for stage one stuff. LOL! I live just 9 Mile's north of there!. I bought a 22 Road King at Capitol , my 5th harley on labor day 2922. So today is Feb 23 2023. I just traded that back in for a 22 Tri-Glide with a 117. What's in yours? May just met ya at capitol.. Davey Crockett..
I have not been too All Clubs in years and that area is a drive through for sure. I love Capital and did you get the black one they recently had? I have a 114 in this bike and just finished a Stage 2. Have not ridden yet due to this lovely weather. Appreciate you taking a look and always glad to meet folks and potentially ride! Enjoy the ride!
I've considered Stage 1 on my 2017 RoadGlide Ultra but for now the only modification it's had is the addition of HD's Screamin' Eagle StreetCannon mufflers. If anything, I think I'd go straight to Stage 2 because I'd like the extra power of the cam and I'd like the lope sound. I've done the Legend Revo-A rear shocks and Axes front cartridges and really liked them - at first. Riding plans around here change suddenly and taking both saddle bags off to crank in some preload just to take them off before the next solo ride to crank it back out repeatedly is a pain. Thankfully, we're both happy with the stock suspension and it's easier to adjust. Ride safe...
I traded my 2021 kawasaki vulcan vaquero for a 2017 Road Glide Special. My Road glide has 3x more technology on it as a 2017. But in the gears, the mph and rpm are exactly the same. Here is the difference. On the Kawasaki 1700, when I'm in 3rd gear at 3000 rpms, that's as far as I can go without straining the engine. On the Road Glide in 3rd gear at 3000 rpm, THERE IS PLENTY OF THROTTLE LEFT without straining the engine. So in essence, the Road Glide has more, much more power.
Getting a stage 2 done as we speak on my 2013 Anniversary Ultra. For me, wasn't about hotrodding it, it was for safety.while touring loaded up and with a passenger, needed some more grunt just to be able to get enough throttle response for any potential road incidents.
No stage #1 just because I'm fine with the ride. Of course, you've influenced me into buying mirrors, a Mustang Touring seat, so I'm never saying never. Be well my friend.
I guess it depends on whether or not the incremental extra power is important to you. To me it’s not worth it. I rarely exceed 5 mph over the limit, accelerate moderately, and these days why do something that I don’t need that will make gas mileage worse. My ‘07 Road King is completely stock with the exception of a luggage rack, a shorter windshield, and a few chrome do-dads. No plans to change a thing. My first Harley was a ‘99 Road King and I did a big bore kit with pipes and an air cleaner. Total waste of some serious money in my opinion. Lesson learned…
I get your thinking Craig and I definitely don’t plan to do anything with my road king. For this bike though which is my main ride and touring motorcycle, it made sense at least to me. That’s the cool thing about motorcycles we’re gonna make it our own right. Appreciate you and ride safe
Going to Stage 1 actually increases gas mileage. The stock motor is choked off for emissions that the factory has to do. The stage one lets the motor breathe better and for me the stage 1 I did on the 107 did increase my gas mileage a little.
Did the stage 1 right when I trailered my Ultra Limited home in a snow storm when new. I don't know from my experience if it made a difference but it will lift the front tire on the highway.
Like you the first thing I did was the exhaust and the FP3 tuner from V&H. I added bars last year from Paul Yaffe. I just ordered a V&H high glow air cleaner from RevZilla today to complete my Stage One. I want to do that to open the bike up I guess. Of course an FP3 dose nothing for the looks. Like you I think my next change is the suspension. I think the shocks on my 2016 Ultra sucks. With the wife and in these terrible Michigan roads, that our gas tax was supposed to fix, we bottom it out all the time. I am a bigger guy so I’ll go heave duty. I now you are a Harley guy and after looking at all of the different makers I think I have settled on Super Shox. For sure I could pay more and get more but I don’t plan on doing any Super Bike races in the near future. Of course ya gotta budget for consumables like oil, filters and tires so the shocks maybe next winter.
@@BoDean52 Our girl Gretchen was going to take care of them “dam roads” right. Guess she forgot. I like the bars. I got the Monkey Bagger Bars. HD Battle Creek installed them. I think when I go get my tires replaced I’ll ask if they can roll them back a bit. I got the 10” bars that are more like 11” and they are just a tad out of reach for me. I’m 5’9” ish so not very tall. Even at that height the stock bars felt like they were on my knees. The 10” bars are just at the top of the bat wing which I like.
Hey, just an update on the shocks. I got the Legend revo a shocks and installed them. After setting up the sag and dialing in the adjustment they are a big improvement over stock for sure! Really smoothes out the ride and handles much better too. I want to do the front later now too. Ride safe!
Don't beat yourself up BoDean. Most people go through the same progression with every new bike. "its perfect the way it is", "well just a stage 1and a tuner and that's it" , "Well I think I need a seat", "Heated Grips would just complete it", "Ohhh look, a windshield" Your bike will be "done" no less than 20 times. Go with it Upgrades are half the fun..
17 Limited. 37500 miles....so far. I am 6'3" so I went for a new seat, new brake, clutch, and pedal for short throw. Taller windshield. Upgrades to lights and signals. Nothing to the engine, yet.
We are the same height and you really had to do the seat in my opinion. You could very well be good to go and I could’ve just stayed with a slip on‘s but apparently I have no self-control 😂
I spent a billion dollars on a Goldwing and only put 102,500 miles on it. Dressed out a Dyna dripping in chrome, still have her at 41,500 miles. Promised myself to have some self control on this one.
Dude, my Harley-Davidson sportster is in the shop getting a stage 1 right now. Its going to cost me $3,900 from cradle to grave. That's with a set Bassani pipes, screaming eagle air intake, and power commander auto tuner.
Stage one is fine. You need a Feuling vented dip stick to finish it off. You will definitely feel the difference in power in the upper range without all that oil in the air filter.
@@BoDean52 well having your pistons not all carboned up with crap is worth it. The dip stick isn’t that expensive. I went with Progressive 944s for suspension. I wish I had the money for the Wilbur’s shocks. Wow. I might still do it at some point.
Not happy with my stage 2, at first I was then I noticed when I cracked the throttle and get on it I hear the motor pinging. Dealer told me they have noticed that happening to some bikes and it’s not a problem as far as they know. Wish I would of left it alone with the stage one with no pinging!!!
I’ve had two other M8’s with slip on mufflers and stage 1 and they both ran perfect, got the sound I was looking for and slightly better throttle response, plus didn’t worry about voiding any warranties with Harley.
I have a "Stage 2" on my Evo Softail, although that was done before the "Stage" terminology began. I really needed more power back in those days because that's when my wife rode with me and we took trips on it all loaded down. I would say that my 80-in stage 2 Evo can run even with a 103 twin cam.
We are on the same track, I did a stage one on 21 RG Limited and it does seem to have more top end on the freeway. I also am thinking the next step is suspension not sure if I’m doing revo or Ohlin’s. P.S. I have the same air cleaner but I swapped the badge from the Screaming Eagle to the black 114 and it looks so much better.
I think doing a stage 1 with the factory warranty in tact really hampers your results, an aftermarket tuner and header really opens up the bike and lets it breathe and fuel properly
Done them all bo dean. Never have to much power in my eyes. Currently have the 131 and enjoy it. You don't know me from Adam but you will like the Revo a. I had them on my 16 limited and the wife was much more pleased with our longer trips. Happy wife happy life right lol
Well i have never owned a M8 bike...But from what i have seen on blogs especially the DK guys...The M8's are different from TC's...They run richer stock and a Stage 1 isnt cost effective verses the extra performance you get...its only a few didget numbers more...But on TC's...Hell yes its a must for stage1...
I agree Brad on the return I’m getting a stage one for power, could’ve simply put mufflers on them. That said, if you’re ever going to do anymore you need to do it. Thanks for watching and ride safe
@@BoDean52 To me if i had your 114M8 i would get some slipons and a K@N and wait for the 2 year warranty to expire and then go aftermarket Stage1...Tuner and 2 into 1 header and go from there...
Sir after your stage 1 did you have to change your riding style ? What I mean is I did a Reinhardt full stage 1 and before I would be able to cruise around say 40 mph at 4th or 5th gear no issue smooth and easy. After the stage 1 my 2015 ultra limited will at time buck as if starving for air or something My mechanic says I need to keep it at a lower gear at slower speed to maintain higher air flow What’s your opinion? Thank you
I'm toying with a Stage 2, but that would be as far or as much I would ever need. I'm ok with the stock sus and already have the uplifted horn and heated grips so that would fix it up pretty well
I found the stage 1 to be a very mild improvement. Swapped my stock head pipes for V&H power duels which let the bike breath much better. Fast forward to this winter I did the stage 2 so I will have something better to compare with. I stuck with the same SE tuner from my stage 1 to keep cost down. Set to pick bike up at the end of this month and can't wait to see how much of a difference there is. Hopefully it will be more than the stage 1 since it was about double the price $$. HD is clever at getting us to go down that financial rabbit hole.
@@91rickybaker overall pretty happy with the stage 2. Seems most of the pull comes at 3400+ rpm. I had the torque cam installed. Not as much launch off the line as I had hoped for but passing power on the freeway is great. I think a better after market tuner would help. The HD tuner is to limited.
I don’t know if the stage one really makes a difference with the M8 engine. The older V twins It would help them run cooler. They also would run too lean when I put my 2021 on a Dyno I was told the numbers the air fuel mix were really good. I went all the way to the stage to as I wanted a little more low-end torque for those roads here in Texas that it is like the autobahn. I got that with the stage two. I am concerned about reliability beyond a stage two and even then a mild cam
I have the stage 4 v&h power duals feeding 4in reinhart, Dk customs intake and power vision. Big difference over stock all the way around. I also changed the suspension to legends and wow 👌. It holds a line better and doesn't jar the piss out of you crossing a yellow line lol
I was blessed to have a friend help w the stage one. Parts were pricey so it was nice to save on labor and to learn during the process.
That is awesome! I am still learning for sure
@@BoDean52 🔥🔥
Take care.
Really appreciate that information and I am really doing the same, now that stage one is done I’m just going to the Revos
Great Video👍
Totally agree Gene and I actually did that on my ultra limited and loved it! Of course now I have a new bike and under warranty so I’m a little hesitant but we’ll see down the road, getting that cat out is great
I did the stage one solely for the sound! That was worth it!
I totally get that move
I think it is up to the rider whether they want to waste money on staging their bike. I have never understood Harley's crap with stages. With what they gouge people for two wheels and a motor, they ought to give their best right up front. Thumbs up.
Thanks man and they have created a cult of spending more money. We know it but we still do it 🤷♂️
@@BoDean52 Yep, and the keep doing it, because people keep spending their hard earned money on them. Hahahaha. Oh what a vicious cycle. Hahaha
Yikes!
That is a sweet bike, I really liked my 18 ultra limited and I bet you’re love the exhaust set up
I did a stage 1 on mine last year...like you say...its not a pull you off the seat difference in power...but I did notice the throttle response was better and little better roll on power.
From one Michigander to another I appreciate and enjoyed the video.
I appreciate that
I put Tab Slip-ons with zombie baffles on mine and I thinks that’s all I’m going to do.
Ride safe
I wouldn't leave the dealership without a Stage1. It's definitely a great start and helps the motor breathe better. Good topic buddy!
Totally agree and I did one of those quick trade-in things, and wasn’t thinking clearly 😂
Words and terms like “HAVE TO” and “SHOULD BE” have no place in anyone’s motorcycle obsession ahem I meant motorcycle ownership experience. 😂
Keep enjoying yours and thank the heavens our significant others don’t know the half 😂 😂.
Always love hearing from you and me and we are pretty lucky during this fun aren’t we? Ride safe
H-D has a great PR/Advertising Dept. to keep owners chasing performance and spending money. I like it. My stock is doing well. Keep spending at dealer!
Yes HD is the master at that for sure!
Really appreciate the comment and actually doing the suspension next week. Too many people I trust just raved about how much of a difference it makes
That sounds amazing! Can’t wait to hear how you like it
Bought my bike used, with stage 1kit, can't give a before and after comparison but I'm happy with my ride, enjoy the ride and be well my friend
Thanks and my 2000 Road King Classic I bought with Stage 1 and love it
Those bars will be sweet…..look forward in hearing how you like them
I put a set of supershox on my 2018 cvo limited $800.00 and I love them.
Great to know...appreciate it
I am a Harley Owner.
Thank you so much for this comment, such great information in here that is helpful for me and others. Ride that bike safe and often!
Good video.
That's exactly where I was with my 2018. Ultra and will probably end up back there with this bike. Appreciate you and ride safe!
No matter how you slice it any upgrades you make it’s pricey … but you’ll appreciate the investment as you place miles on it … you nailed it you can expect about 8-15 horsepower upgrade by a stage 1
Agree and watching what your doing as well, ride safe!
Man I can’t wait to ride!! I’m getting some shock work done so it should be about another week or so and I’ll be riding!
@@BoDean52 … yeah, the wing is less expensive that way.
So I own a 2021 like yours ( same color even )waited and did a stage two w 2 into 1 pipe and a false baffle and so glad I did, sounds so good with 20% increase in torque & HP. Plus the cam gives that thump at idle. Best upgrade I made👍
Right on
The good stuff !! Enjoy... let me know when your in Cigar City
Thanks! Will do!
Look at the KST bars. They adjust fore/aft and the handles adjust in and out. You can se them to fit as you like. I installed 12 inch bars and love them.
Thanks and looked at them hard but the ones I wanted are out of stock still!
Appreciate that and end up going with the factory 47’s
I have a stage 2 on my RGL 2020 had it done at Michigan Baggers 475 S&S cam Thundermax tuner D&D 2 into 1 and S&S Supersucker air cleaner hope to see you out some place this season I ride down around Hell and on M36 all the time
Have not heard about Michigan Baggers and I am dealign with warranty right now so somewhat limited. Heck yeah, always up for a ride too!

Thats great to hear Steve, love to see the bars. You mind shooting me a picture on my IG at bodean 52.instagram.com/bodean52/
Just got my bike back on Friday. The stage 2 is nice.
That is sweet and congrats, no talking about it this year we are going to ride my friend!
@@BoDean52 definitely
I’ll really tout a suggestion made by @HarleyDayRider: on my ride from Colorado to Los Angeles and back a few weeks ago, I wore bicyclist shorts under my riding jeans…the kind with the padded seat. They made a big difference. Not as much of a cool factor as upgraded suspension or seat, but they worked very well. 👍🏻
That is funny Joe because we all have an ongoing joke about those shorts. Glad they worked for you
@@BoDean52 LOL… as much as they may simulate a loaded diaper, I don’t care. Comfort is king!
I did a stage 1 on my ultra. It helped the power and the fuel mileage. When I got my Road Master I just did a tune on it and don’t need anymore power. Finally got out for a short ride yesterday and it was great!!
Glad you got out Chuck! Thinking just Stage 1 for me!
Totally agree how much the suspension is a total game changer!
Bob I did Stage 1 on my 2017 because one reason was stock wise it didn’t give me that nice Harley rumble. Stock to me didn’t sound like what I thought a Harley-Davidson should sound like. If I wanted a quiet motorcycle I would of bought a BMW.
Harley rumble is like food, have to have it. My 2000 RK Classic is the sound I think every bike should sounds like! BMW sells bikes? 😂
Thanks Mike and good advice. IF I do Stage 2 it would be after warranty and I am looking hard at the Legends now!
I just bought a new 2021 FLTRK, as I was watching this video I noticed screens in your shark noise fairing. What name brand are they and where did you buy them>

Good choice! Ride it safe
I HAVE to change out the seat. It’s like sitting on a bag of rocks after 30 minutes. I would LIKE to change out the suspension for Ohlins or Wilbers but they are a bit spendy.
I am looking at suspension right now CJ and agree that the pricing on both of those is high. I’ll probably do legends
@@BoDean52 , I haven’t made up my mind yet. I know Colin really likes his and other YT’ers say they are great. I do know that for me I feel that comfort upgrades are where my limited budget will go. After all what good is performance if you can only ride for 30 minutes before stopping and seeing a chiropractor.
cobra and stage 1 on mine too. It's good.
Totally agree Jim, other than suspension I think I’m good. That said, I’ve said that before a few hundred times 😂
@@BoDean52 haha same here man
The stock 114 is enough for me in power, and I don’t need more noise.
I am thinking exactly the same, I believe the suspension is a better purchase right now than the stage 2
@@BoDean52 yes , upgrade your suspension and your lower back will thank you for it :-D
Really appreciate that and I am ordering the Revo A today, everyone says they are worth it
@@BoDean52 I have them love them.
Really close my friend...next steps
Big difference between need and want. I think once you start getting into the later stages is when the problems start. Personally I would do the stage 1 or 4 and skip 2-3. Touring bikes need adequate power not high performance. Comfort for those long trips.
Actually Pete I agree 100% with you. For how I ride and because we both have second bikes, the purpose of how you ride or why you ride plays into what you do in my opinion. I plan to spend the money on suspension and not more on the motor
thats the way you do i just ordered the parts for a stage 1 from harley i,m going right to the 4
No matter how new your bike is, you have to make it your OWN! Just customizing it is fun. Expensive but fun.
Totally agree and amen on the expensive part
I did the stage 2 on my 2020 before I had 3000 miles on it. Love it. Why did I do it? Well, because I could!! 🤓 Now CoastalMoto wheels have been ordered for the next “I’m not going to do anything else…” project (after I did the Custom Dynamics rear lights and front turn signals). Do we ever really get done spending money and doing projects? And there’s that needed new seat… 🤔
Its a fund struggle isn't it Bill!
At this point I did also modify the factory air filter cover (I personally like it's looks) for better airflow
The fourth step after cleaning out all the carbon buildup on pistons and valves from dumping oil, water and oxygen depleted air directly into the throttle body over the previous 20,000 miles was to install www.boosterplug.com/shop/harley-davidson-touring-88c1.html.
I should know better Dusty and I should just embrace it!
We all know better Sir and that is the paradox that we constantly repeat….lol
Life is to be enjoyed and some of the best people do it on two wheels!!
HEAR ya there on the sound, it is a must change

That is great and getting ready to slide some Revo A's on now and ride mostly solo so hoping they make a difference
Stage two and suspension soon. Prepping for sturgis so looking at windshields and saddlebags right now.
That's sweet...I so need to plan a trip out there. Exciting!
@@BoDean52 yes! I’m excited to check this one off the bucket list.
Yeah, on my 24 it always seems like it has more
Getting a stage 2 done as we speak on my 2013 Anniversary Ultra. For me, wasn't about hotrodding it, it was for safety.while touring loaded up and with a passenger, needed some more grunt just to be able to get enough throttle response for any potential road incidents.
Thats sweet and love to hear how you feel after riding that way after. Something I will be considering for sure. Ride safe!
You got it. I'll let ya know how it works out
No stage #1 just because I'm fine with the ride. Of course, you've influenced me into buying mirrors, a Mustang Touring seat, so I'm never saying never. Be well my friend.

@@judisheldon6848 Just got back
@@bobnelson2499 hope you had a great time
Glad I could help and look forward in meeting you and Black Betty soon!
Nice and the Ultra is a great bike
Agree Ron and how do you like the bars? I have been waiting for MI taxes to fix the roads but that has NEVER happened!
Just stage 1 with Tab 4.5 and zombie baffles. Rolled bars forward as you did, and a good lepera seat. Doing Legend shocks this week.
Sounds like you’re all set James and I am thinking the same on the shocks. Let me know how they are
@@BoDean52 sure will. I'm getting them by mid week.
Hey, just an update on the shocks. I got the Legend revo a shocks and installed them. After setting up the sag and dialing in the adjustment they are a big improvement over stock for sure! Really smoothes out the ride and handles much better too. I want to do the front later now too. Ride safe!

Go with it Upgrades are half the fun..
Love the attitude Jackieboy.....embrace it right
Seems really high to me but sure you will love it. Enjoy and ride safe!
Stage one is fine. You need a Feuling vented dip stick to finish it off. You will definitely feel the difference in power in the upper range without all that oil in the air filter.
Part of the billing process I guess, thinking suspension next
@@BoDean52 well having your pistons not all carboned up with crap is worth it. The dip stick isn’t that expensive.
I went with Progressive 944s for suspension. I wish I had the money for the Wilbur’s shocks. Wow. I might still do it at some point.
Not happy with my stage 2, at first I was then I noticed when I cracked the throttle and get on it I hear the motor pinging. Dealer told me they have noticed that happening to some bikes and it’s not a problem as far as they know. Wish I would of left it alone with the stage one with no pinging!!!
Yikes......think I am staying put at Stage 1
I’ve had two other M8’s with slip on mufflers and stage 1 and they both ran perfect, got the sound I was looking for and slightly better throttle response, plus didn’t worry about voiding any warranties with Harley.
I have a "Stage 2" on my Evo Softail, although that was done before the "Stage" terminology began. I really needed more power back in those days because that's when my wife rode with me and we took trips on it all loaded down. I would say that my 80-in stage 2 Evo can run even with a 103 twin cam.
That's nice and I do plan on more long rides with the wife. Hope your well up there and riding season is close!
Great idea on the badge, thanks and ride safe

@@BoDean52 I hope you can join in on our 2022 Landmark Ride this season. Details are posted on the Facebook Group "Great Lakes Road Riders".

I have done the aftermarket and my preference, the warranty time period changes the thoughts though. Ride safe
I think if I get anything done I will just go straight to stage two
I get that!
Done them all bo dean. Never have to much power in my eyes. Currently have the 131 and enjoy it. You don't know me from Adam but you will like the Revo a. I had them on my 16 limited and the wife was much more pleased with our longer trips. Happy wife happy life right lol

If you are only thinking about going up 1 or 2 inches try taller risers first.
Good call, thanks
Sir after your stage 1 did you have to change your riding style ?
What I mean is I did a Reinhardt full stage 1 and before I would be able to cruise around say 40 mph at 4th or 5th gear no issue smooth and easy. After the stage 1 my 2015 ultra limited will at time buck as if starving for air or something
My mechanic says I need to keep it at a lower gear at slower speed to maintain higher air flow
What’s your opinion?
Thank you
What a great question but I do not believe I changed my riding style at all with the stage one other than having some fun with it
I'm toying with a Stage 2, but that would be as far or as much I would ever need.

I hear the same from others on going past the Stage 2, 3-4 people that have had problems.
I like the stage 1. I'll run that till it needs rebuilding. Then build it with after market part's. Zippers, maybe
