Anne Robinson Goes Head to Head With Woman From Pontins Following A Watchdog Report

Watchdog received more than 100 complaints from Pontins Customers in 2011 about problems during their stays including bad smells in the accommodation, dirty bathrooms, grimy carpets, holes in the walls, stains on the bedding and blood on the curtains. Watchdog investigated and not only confirmed the problems inside the accommodation, but outside of the apartments they found run-down public toilets, grimy floors, dirty chairs, disused chairs around the park and litter by the crazy golf.
After broadcasting the footage to their 4.5million viewers [ • Pontins BBC One Watchd... ], Watchdog invited Eileen Downey from Britannia Hotel Group who own Pontins to respond to the complaints. Suffice to say it was quickly apparent that this was no normal interview: whereas many businesses who feature on Watchdog are apologetic to customers in response to complaints, Ms Downey took a very different stance and launched a scolding vendetta against Anne Robinson and Watchdog for their report.

I went to Pontins Camber Sands last week and I’m surprised we didn’t all catch dysentery! The other holiday makers were disrespectful, loud and the place stank of weed. The Blue Coats were amazing but overworked in front of a lacklustre crowd, the bar staff were rude to my friend but polite to me, the shop onsite stank of urine, there was rubbish everywhere, people turned up, got keys and promptly left after seeing their rooms. I will never go back. I don’t care if it was a cheap holiday, standards need to be better!

i stayed in a britannia hotel last year,, ( thats who own pontins ) it was shit,, it was dirty,, the staff was rude ,, so good on you ann for having a go at her,, she takes our hard earned money for our only one weeks holiday each year and she dose not care,,

Pontins has always been the poor man's butlins. Through its history and this "friendly" rivalry between the two, pontins has always been the one with low over-heads and low cost to people. Im actually bored with people complaining about pontins to this day, just don't bother going!

I used to go to Po tins twice a year, every year before they took over, and I can honestly say it was much better before Britania took over. To me, it'd seem quite easy to stay at the standard the former owners had. Also, if Britannia had the guts and the money to buy Pontins, which they obviously did, they should have the guts and the money to improve the parks. Idiots, absolute utter idiots.
The parks have been improved since they took over. I can say they are putting way more effort in now than they have done but you've got to keep this in mind that Pontin's went bust and no one wanted to buy it. It has took a while for the improvements to come though.
Pontins is owned by britannia hotels. You just need to look at Trip Advisor to see what people are saying about all other Britannia establishments! Eye opening reading enjoyed with a cup of tea and biscuit!

Conference for the day. Location Brittania Hotel Birmingham, utter, gloomy, drab dive. It was awful, glad to get out of the lift alive.

This was broadcast nearly 2 years ago. From looking on trip advisor there seems to be no improvement at all in this time. People are still giving horrendous reports on pontins. If Britannia hotels have taken on too much then they should sell pontins to a company that can make improvements!

Blood spots on bedding suggest bed bug infestation. On top of nasty itchy bites sustained by their unwitting victims nocturnally when they emerge to feast ( in addition to defecating and laying eggs) they can stow away in clothing and luggage meaning occupants of chalets affected with an infestation will likely bring a few unpleasant mementos home to reek havoc in addition to the weeping bites welts that cover their legs.. They may lack funds for the drastic refurbishment needed but they can likely afford a stock of new sheets, paint to spruce up peeling walls, carpet cleaner , bleach .. a cleaning team capable of maintaining a decent standard of cleainess and sanitary conditions.
No excuse. Still effected by the issues outlined in many of their locations years later.
7 years ago Eillen Downey was on Watchdog taking about Pontins at Camber Sands about refurbishment. SO WHAT HAPPENED;;;;; She was talk Rubbish as its still the same June 2018. my son and partner and their 1 year old daughter arrived Monday 18th June to find Mice and Rat droppings, hair on the floor around sink and bath, long grass and rubbish out side, security were escorting the peaple in chalet next door off site for smoking cannabis, and to top it all my son and partner the next morning were covered in bed bug bits , they spent 3 hrs at a local doctors were he confirmed this. they have now left their and having a great time at Coombe Haven , Hastings. they have lots of photos and expenses and will be demanding a full refund and all expenses to be paid. Thank to Haven Holidays for helping us at sort notice.

Eileen Downey is speaking as a hotel and resorts manager with over 20 years' experience of poor management and denial of wrongdoing. Lord knows how she's even managed to stay in the business other than how hard-nosed and unapologetic she has always been. 🙄 ANY organisation that uses her as their spokesperson on TV is clearly a failing one.
Wow remember this Anne met her match that night!! .....Have stayed there myself back in 93 and 2004!
But the women who represents it, didn't do Pontins or herself any favours!!! She should of held her hands up apologised till the cows came home and then promise to rectify and thank Watchdog for helping clean up and expose the bad situation and offered refunds to those effected!!!
That would be a start and make her and the company of Pontins look credible!! Not just passing the buck and ignoring the situation!!
Any boss like her behaving in this manner is no good for the brand of Pontins I wouldn't have any confidence in a company with a rude ignorant person who represents it!! If pontins is to carry on they need to employ people who care about people who love it and want it to carry on!!!!!

Pontins? Just Pontins?. This is the Brittania Hotel group, voted the worst hotels in the UK. Also the group that sat on the magnificent listed Manchester fire station for thirty years letting it rot. Queens hotel, Brighton. Brittania, Sachas, Airport hotels, Manchester. Adelphi hotel, Liverpool and many more in nearly every city in the UK and EVERY one has really bad reviews on trip advisor and all hotel review sites. Every thing they own is run down to the very bare minimum and this lady summarises the companies attitude to their customers magnificenty.
Sorry I meant to say, So what? Refurbishment takes along time, that's not the customers problem, its your problem Britannia hotels, pontins are whatever your called.
Don't you think, you would fully survey & inspect & correct before leasing rooms to the public, regardless of the number of rooms you have for lease?
Years later and these parks are getting bad reviews for mold and neglect.

We asked for refund as soon as we got to Brean sands potions.we left with evidence and sent it to council for Brean.Got No refund, no apologies, nothing but upset 7 year old .we went to holiday park next door and begged them if they had any caravan for rent.They were so helpful and we had a beautiful clean deluxe caravan cabin 😀so good always went there after .Brean is beautiful and hope pontins has been ripped down and rebuilt as owners britania who got it for nothing from when it went into administration,had my money for nothing, probably same woman that ruined our holiday on TV,

No it was no dirtier than a normal clean hotel. Must of got there ass in gear. I'm not fussed if I stay in a posh place or a standard place. I thought it was fun.
Booked a week stayed one night & this was 2018. The rest of the comments say it all!

I went to pointing a few years ago with my family at Camber Sands and my sister was going to sleep in the pull out bed but it was blood inside of it. I think they think that people don't sleep in pull out's. My family complained and we did get compensation after complaining for months but I would never go back. Please don't go there if you want a nice holiday without nightmare's.

Is this woman for real? What a rude, arrogate, ignorant individual she is! The group should have closed the parks to complete the necessay works rather than subjecting paying guests to that filth. The reviews on trip advisor this week alone are horrific so I don't know where the 99.9% of happy customers that she is quoting is coming from, DO NOT BOOK Pontins, it looks like a run down 60's council estate (which it basically is - On the buses films) that should have been demolished years ago.

Went to Pontins Camber Sands in 1980, it was brilliant. Went to Pontins Brean Sands in 2020, it was dirty, smelly and depressing although the staff were very nice.
She is absolutely like Margot Thatcher, personally she was best for the company……now without her the company has fallen into disrepair!!!

Went to pontins four times previously (Prestatyn mainly) and must have been lucky as Chalets were cleaned to an acceptable standard, Went to Southport in May 2011 and could not belive the state of the (club) appartment we were given. Took our first break with Haven this year and needless to say will never set foot in Pontins again. Just look at the reviews on Trip adviser,

Well it's good the refurbishment program at Brean Sands went so well, not like anyone died after a ceiling collapse in 2019.

What a horrible person! It matters not that the company was in receivership, they were in the wrong. I was thinking of staying at Pontins and can only say I am glad I googled them beforehand and read the hundreds of complaints. I will bypass the name Britannia hotels and Pontins forever.

I knew I’d seen that hard-faced woman before. She used to manage the Adelphi in Liverpool. My limited experience with the Britannia group is that they don’t believe in improvement, they’d rather maintain mediocrity.

Had the mispleasure of staying in the Britannia Coventry Hill Hotel, What an absolute dump, Stank of stale cabbage as soon as you walk in reception and was in a real tired state, no excuse for it really. I wouldnt even pay for a homeless person to stay in this hotel, (and that is out of an act of kindness). I've stayed in Pontins as well which is just as bad, so right up to Britannia's standards me thinks.

I went to prestayn sands it was the truly rundown and a even a pube on the bath and doors cracked what a mess i would like to them to make the effort to get rid of the horrible food and the the fish n chips shop and re do it up like make an effort for people with kids or not an enjoyable stay they should do like a holiday on the buses tours around the camp bring old lodekka buses and history and making of the film . when we where there the mums and dads let the kids play footie all night.
