    Updated review on mine. I got a really good deal on a Hyway Big bore Popup Piston Kit. $87 total. Installed it on my saw. It now pulls the 8 pin sprocket as easily as the 7 pin. Deleted base gasket with Permatex Ultra Grey (Hondabond). Installed a gutted Hyway Dual port muffler as well. Torch Iridium Spark plug (only company that makes an irdium for saws). Runs awesome. 180 PSI compression. Also discovered you can use brass tube to make a little bushing for the chain tensioner. It takes up the extra room in the case around the head of the main adjuster screw tip (the smooth portion past the gear that is obviously too small for the hole it rides in). Got the brass rod from Amazon. Haven't had any issues with the adjuster after that and greasing well with wheel bearing grease.

    I have an old 056 ave. I paid $30 for it. I use a 3 foot bar on it. It doesn't give me any trouble, even when using it to mill oak. I know it's not designed for milling, so I let it cool down every so often. It had a few issues when I bought it, but I was able to fix it for under $10. That was in 2019... The newer Stihl saws aren't made with that level of quality and despite having a larger engine, the current 91cc saw doesn't seem to be any better than my 056. So, to answer your question, yes, it's worth fixing the old Stihl. But that's just my opinion...

      Thank You. I do plan to fix up the old 066. I wish I could find a deal like you did, my uncle has been logging for 40 years and the 056 is his favorite saw! Glad you could fix up that old saw and keep her working!

    Huh the tensioner is indeed weak. However it seems some user errors may have been at play here.

    I will give my experience with my Farmmac F660V. I got it because they use OEM carb. Italy coil, and a few other goodies. Mine started easy once i figured out how the choke worked. Cold usually 1 to 3 pulls to burp it. 1 pull with the trigger pull lock and it usually fires off. I tested it on an oak stump at my moms that was as big as the bar. 1 minute all the way through with the stock Farmmac chain & bar. I'm sure it would scare me even more if i went full chisel Oregon or Stihl chain. Mine came with shit seals on both caps. Found some black ones with better gaskets that now seal. It leaked 3/4 tank of gas and oil on my car seat. At least it's leather so it couldn't soak in. But it literally scared me the first time i tried it. It was pine that had fallen on a jobsite. 8-10 inch about. 3 cuts 5 seconds. According to my rpm checker is already revving about 12,500 rpm. She likes to eat.

      I just closely checked the stock chain. Looks almost full chisel. Decent profile. Cuts pretty good.

      Did you have to extend your bar all the way to get a good tension on your chain?

    • @MrBooMY3
      @MrBooMY3 3 месяца назад

      @@normrod4285 No it shouldn't have to go much beyond half on a new chain. Got to be careful not to over tighten as well.

    You certainly complained all the way. That saw isn't any worse than you forgetting to put the dogs on. Let's get real. No, it's not a Stihl. It was one third the price. If the parts are interchangeable, you should be able to upgrade any subpar parts you think you have. And you certainly have replaced enough parts on that Stihl through the years as well. Give an honest review and don't act like you are comparing apples to apples when you are not. I am going to purchase one of these for a larger job at my farm simply because I have some large fallen trees that my saws are too small for, and the price of a Stihl is outrageous. I don't expect Stihl quality, but it will do the job.

      Yep, I probably complained too much. It isn't a terrible saw, I like it. The company did send me a new chain tensioner, but it was the same as the old one, so I don't expect that to last.

      I suggest you keep everything loose when adjusting the chain and snug it up good enough the bar won't move, and I think things will go much better than expected. With the knock offs we know they don't have the hardened steel you have in the real deal. But if you are more careful and know your limitations you will be better than you think.

      I bought a Farmertec 660 5 years ago & haven't had any trouble with it. It starts easy every time also. I am just a fire wood cutter also.

      I can only speak for myself, but when I've bent a chain tensioner, it's been because I didn't tighten the bar nuts firmly enough, sometimes with an assist from letting the bar get pinched and wrestling it free.
