- MARADONA - The Day D10S Unleashed His Own FIST OF FURY is a highlights feature of the day Diego physically exacted revenge on Athletic Bilbao, whose player Andoni Goikoetxea aka "the Butcher of Bibao" had a few months beforehand almost succeeded in inflicting a premature end to Maradona's career by intentionally breaking his ankle in a foul that was described as "one of the most brutal fouls ever delivered in the history of Spanish football".
This match, between Barcelona FC and Athletic Bilbao, which quickly descended into violent chaos was played at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium as the 1984 Copa Del Rey final, and it is interesting to note that for the majority of the game, the referee is reluctant to caution the Bilbao players despite their constant aggressive (and at times dangerous) tackles upon Maradona.
What is even more impressive, is that Maradona never shirks responsibility and continues to demand the ball at every moment, no matter what physical assault was to ensue. We often talk about Maradona's incredible skillset, his unequalled mastery of a football, but what is often overlooked is just how brave a player he was.

I was there in Madrid, 11 years old and I remember that the problem was only between players. They could only stop Maradona with bad kicks, and Athletic Bilbao did that very well, until Maradona said enough... the supporters of both teams were calm and there were no incidents. All the shit happened on the pitch.

@@water_cup67 I am 49 years old and I normally went to the Camp Nou, I have been able to see players like Stoichkov, Laudrup, Romario, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Messi and also my home idols, Guardiola, Ferrer, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta . I feel lucky to have been able to enjoy these great players live at the stadium.

Aparte de las patadas este partido, aquí hay que recordar y tener en cuenta que en un partido anterior Goicoechea le habia partido la pierna y Maradona habia estado 5 o 6 meses de baja....

Madre mia. Ni me puedo imaginar hoy que un partido de este nivel acabase con los jugadores matándose a patadas voladoras. Ha cambiado mucho el fútbol y sobre todo la sociedad en general.
Si no conoce la historia no puede entender por que paso esto. En el partido anterior con el Atletico de Bilbao Goikoetxea le rompio el tobillo por lo que tuvo que ser operado y estuvo tres meses sin jugar ( por fuerza de voluntad, se le habia diagnosticado seis meses de recuperacion ). En este juego que es la vez siguiente que se enfrentan los equipos, a pesar de lo que le habia pasado el juego anterior los bilbainos no tuvieron ninguna consideracion y le cayeron a patadas en el partido. Cuando acabo Maradona reacciono de manera natural me parece a mi.

Terminó expulsado en el partido contra Brasil, después de perder la paciencia tras la patada número 80, y Argentina eliminada. Un poco injusto.
Incluso en el 86, también le dieron bastante, sobre todo en primera ronda.
